Make it personal. Keep it authentic.
Part of the appeal of Twitter is the brief window into the real life of major political figures. Blogs & YouTube are the same way. If it's stale and unoriginal, it won't draw viewers or readers. If it's authentic, even if not exactly high tech production or finely edited wording, the product has greater appeal.
That's the formula Cathy McMorris Rodgers has used to make for a more compelling product on YouTube, as verified by the good folks over at Publicola.
