Today is ending on a gray note in this area, and, for me, that makes this collection of hummingbird pictures even more enjoyable. I especially like the animated gif pictures on the right side of the site. They show the birds with good detail, and a little bit of movement.

(I should mention, as I have before, that hummingbirds are very difficult photo subjects — which adds to my appreciation of these pictures.)

Here in beautiful Lake City one can venture to Meadowbrook Pond, located across the street from Nathan Hale High School.
During the winter there are Green Winged Teal, Goldeneyes, Hooded Mergansers, Buffleheads, and Cormorants. Any time of year you can expect to see Herons and Kingfishers. The other day I saw a Wood Duck. I'd never seen one of those spectacularly beautiful ducks before.

I thought maybe that the long lasting snow in December would knock back our Anna's Hummingbirds here, but it didn't seem too--What amazing critters! And only here in the (North and South) Americas, although more South than North as their center of diversity is Peru or Ecuador, which has I think 130 species, many very colorful.
What a good idea to lighten up the mood with a post like this as another near-trillion of debt is being added to the children's tab in what seems like an unstoppable juggernaut.(sp?).
Thanks all, New Left Conservative #1
These hummingbird photos are similar. You can see they are basically treading air at 72 wing cycles per second. Amazing creatures. The splendor and adaptation of life is mind blowing.
