Tracking the Legislative Session

Given the thinning ranks of the Olympia press corps, this blogger has found TVW's "The Capitol Record" blog to be perhaps the best source of straight news information out there. It's managed primarily by Niki Sullivan, formerly with the TNT. She seems off to a productive start with this new gig.

1. TVW is NOT a straight news organization.

Their gavel to gavel coverage of hearings and speeches is a valuable public service. But their original programming should not be confused with news. It's little more than infomercials that suck up to the people in state government who approve their appropriations.

I had a very bad experience with TVW last year when they interviewed me and then edited my remarks beyond recognition so as not to embarrass Sam Reed and Nick Handy (who by the way administer TVW's contract with the state).

TVW has morphed from a valuable, unbiased and trustworthy service bureau into an off-the-books P.R. agency for the folks who sign its checks.

3. Stefan,

I believe TVW is under 'new management', since your encounter. Not dismissing your point; just an FYI.

4. Jimg -- unless the new management is so new that the management listed on the web site is still the old management, then it's the "new management" that IS the problem.
