Budget Problems & Taxes: Lisa Brown Edition

There is much to chew on in this interview of state Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown. I don't have time to blog on it immediately, but welcome discussion in the comments.

1. As Eric sez: Much to ''chew on'' (or spit out, depending on your point of view).

WRT the updated numbers on the $600 million shortfall for the current biennium that are now supposed to be out on February 19th; and Brown's prediction that revenues will be lower than anticipated:
IMO a reasonable reading of the State financial tea leaves would indicate that the appropriate term to employ here is SIGNIFICANTLY lower.

Couple the exploding deficit for the current biennium with latest expectations for the next 2 years, and then remember the 33 percent increase in State spending during Gregoire's 1st term. Chickens coming home to roost all at once.

WRT Sen. Brown's ''looking at alternatives'' to budget cutting:
The ugliness in Oly has just started; hold on to your pocketbooks.

2. Yes hold on to your pocketbooks as the democrats are already in the midst of huge unemployment are going to steal Billions more from the people who cannot even afford to keep their homes.

3. Why do we keep electing the bottom of the barrel? Both sides- Senate and Executive- carryon like there is no tomorrow.

Why can't the party in power solve or try to solve the problems we have today? Perhaps it is because they refuse to give incentives to the people who can- the private sector. Perhaps the government can't solve the problem but the dregs of the barrel feel they have to make it look like they are doing something in order to get reelected.

4. Why, I am already monitored about the energy consumption! I get these letters from Puget Energy saying that I use more energy than my neighbors. I can appreciate first asking me if I want to be part of analysis, but simply getting a mail saying I have been monitored? Not a good feeling.

So, I pay about $25 or so more per month than my neighbors. Does that warrant a complete window replacement and re-insulation project for $10K+, I'd rather pay $500 or so more each year. Just stop trying to run my life. I can do my own dang cost analysis just fine.

5. And Mary Margaret Haugan is sponsering a bill to raise tuition and fees over a Billion.

In economy mind you!
