Patriotic Grandmothers support David Irons
Recall the story of Jane Balogh, the Federal Way grandmother who registered her dog to vote as an attention-getting protest against overly lax voter registration standards.

Ms. Balogh was, er, hounded by out-of-control prosecutors, who spent more time and effort investigating Ms. Balogh's harmless civic-minded protest than they spent investigating all the illegal vote-counting by election officials (the latter investigation effort being 0).

Ms. Balogh sent this email to David Irons and also asked me to post it here. Read the whole thing:
Mr. Irons,

I was impressed by your voter guide statement. Apathy is rampant and folks do no research on candidates and vote by name recognition (or believe lies of said candidate). Unfortunately, the media doesn't always have their facts correct either. Many supporting groups have a partisan agenda even though this is a nonpartisan position.

I am the recipient of the lies of Sheril Huff. It all started when I wrote to the power that be and made phone calls to Olympia about the lax voter registration laws. No answer from anyone. I wanted to prove my point and I did so. You see, I am the white haired granny, companion to Duncan MacDonald, the voting dog. The only "illegal" thing I did was to sign his name on the voters registration form. All other paperwork (ballots) was signed with a paw print only and void was written on ballot. From day one, I continued writing to politicians telling them what I had done and how easy it was to register a dog, even faxing them a copy of his registration. No answer from anyone, again. Six months after I told King County Elections that Duncan was a dog, he received his third ballot.

Sherril Huff told the media I had signed the ballot. Not true! Sam Reed said I forged my phone bill. Not true! Ms. Huff said it is an arduous process to remove someone from the registration rolls. Not true! He was removed several days before I was to appear at the court house to sign papers to remove him. Another Huff lie. I am a nobody, just a patriotic citizen. I have copies of everything I did just in case I needed proof of what I had done and why and to whom I wrote and faxed. A visit to my home by a prosecutor and detective garnered no Miranda rights and I confessed all on the spot, giving them copies of everything. Not knowing the ways of the law and courts, I felt helpless. I was told I had to give a guilty plea or they would charge me with a felony and going to trial would accomplish nothing because of HAVA. Another lie.

These are trying times in our history. Our state has made so many mistakes and one affects the other. Allowing illegals to acquire drivers licenses in one. A drivers license is one form of identification used as proof to vote and it is bastardized. Doesn't anyone remember 9/11? How about the murderer of little Zena Lennic in Tacoma. Terapon Adhan, an illegal and a felon, had a drivers license and was registered to vote.

You wouldn't believe the speed with which he was removed from the voter rolls. An arduous process?

Punish me for what I did. Fair. Any politicians who lies to save their reputation should not be in office. Their lies sullied my name and my intent as a whistle-blower. I was willing to take my medicine, but they had not the moral compass to do the same.

Sorry to be so wordy. I just wanted you to know that you have the vote of my household and I truly hope you win and make changes to protect the sanctity of our vote.

Speaking of protecting the sanctity of our vote, records show that while Sherril Huff has been overseeing elections in King County, over 500 voters have cast 2 ballots in the same election. Records show that 62 of them got to have both ballots counted in the same election. To the best of my knowledge, none of these people have been prosecuted.

1. I agree with Ms Balogh's views of the voting process. I was apalled at the ease of registration at the motor-voter process. One isn't even asked (by the Driver's Lic personell if they are a citizen)...it's simply assumed you are and on the form. I'm a naturalized American and had to furnish all my naturalization paperwork and pictures to get a passport but nothing to register to vote. I think that is simply absurd! Something obviously needs to be done. I've always maintained that if the sophisticated transactions on the face of the earth can be made secure through the computer...why can't the same be done with voting.

2. ...sorry, but I must add that I do not agree with Ms Blaogh's choice for Elections Director however. :)

3. it's harder to get into the suites at Safeco Field than it is to vote illegally in King County.

4. It pains me to say that I agree with Duffman, but the time is now to move ahead with on-line computer voting. I hope whoever is elected will begin the process of moving us into the 20th (not even 21st) century. I did however save some face by obviously disagreeing with the Duffman on who to vote for, for Elections director. I think Irons is a darn good choice.

5. the time is now to move ahead with on-line computer voting

The time is now to restore democracy, by insisting that voters register properly first, and then show up at polling places carrying photo ID, before they are allowed to cast a ballot.

Online voting? You mean, let the best hacker win the election? Disgusting. Mail ballot fraud is already too easy, and computer fraud is even less like voting. Only Saul Alinsky and his disciples would approve.

6. She better watch out. I hear David Irons has a bit of problem with old people and hitting.

7. I still believe that Bill Anderson would be the best choice for the job. He is the only one running that will represent all parties fairly and run a clean election.

8. Keep it up, Giffy -- dismissing with a label is much easier than actually investigating who the candidates are.

9. There are too many candidates that will end up splitting the non-vote for Huff. Someone other than Pam Roach and David Irons and of course Huff would be better. Take Bill Anderson - why is he a good candidate ?

My suggestion is get on the bandwagon for the anti-Huff candidate and let it be known here or forever hold your peace.

10. OK, I give you one job to do, find out how many of Iron's siblings are voting for him, I know his sister will not, and then check his parents, they too are not voting for Irons. HMMMM wonder why?

11. #10 - you had better work on that job because I don't think anyone else will do it, unless Mrs. Shark decides to take it upon herself.

Irons seems to suffer from Bush's lack of saavy with PR and the lamestream media won't help out.

12. My wife and I marked our ballots for Irons and sent them in yesterday.
