Bye, Bye Ron Sims? - UPDATED
Josh Feit, over at the newly incarnated news wing of Horse's Ass, reports on the possibility of Ron Sims heading to join Team Obama:
King County Executive Ron Sims has accepted a post in the Obama administration, according to a source in D.C. Details are sketchy, but Sims, who has been KC Executive since 1996, is reportedly going to D.C. for a job at HUD, the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
That would make this fall's contest for King County Executive substantially more interesting (even as a couple as yet unreported variables might well make it exciting even if Sims sticks around).
Interesting technology twist - note this from Feit:
Calls to the Sims office were not immediately returned this morning. And of course, I have a Facebook message into Sims.
Welcome to the real world of modern politics. I'll personally attest Facebook is a fantastic networking tool and one that I use to contact people when I know a regular email or phone call might get lost in the shuffle.
UPDATE: Oh, bummer. It's supposedly not true.

1. OMG Eric...you have fricken made my day with that news..and then the downer 'update'. Tooooooo bad!
2. ...excuse me, excuse me...eric falsly exciting one like that with such potentially great news just doesn't demonstrate 'good home training' :)
3. I was going to say that if he ran HUD the way he ran the elections department....
4. LOL, Ron can go work on elections. He did such a great job here even the banks are jealous.
5. There goes all credibility to the new blog.
6. If this rumor is true, it demonstrates that Sims must he hearing footsteps. I don't beleive that Sims is unelectable for any public office in this state.
7. Oops. I should have said I don't believe that Sims is electable in #6 above.
8. Nooooooooo! When I first heard this, I was all set to toast King county's gain and America's loss. Noooooooo!!!!
9. As one who can now comment without fear of retribution since I retired, I completely understand why he is leaving.
1. His incompetence and wasteful spending has put the county is a deficit situation for the foreseeable future.
2. There is no concrete figure on how bad the county is in trouble since no one really knows for sure, especially the budget office.
3. My former employees must take 10 days without pay, while Ron gets out of his deal.
4. The Union still has not formally accepted his offer, contractually that is, so this one could get dicey. Ron will be gone, so no harm !
4. His wasteful spending has not stopped.
What is it they say about when the ship is going down the rats get off first?
10. Seems the departure, may or may not be fact.
I guess we will have to wait and see.
11. I hear it's neck and neck between Ronnie and the mayor of Portland....
12. Keeping my fingers crossed for his departure, but on the other hand he will waste taxpayers money back there too.
13. Quit toying with my heart.
Dooya really think he'll be contributing to the building of the administration of the first black Jimmy Carter? What a perfect assignment for Sims.
