Washington Legislature back in session

The state Legislature goes back in session today. With the Democrats in control of both Houses but out-of-control in terms of their priorities, one should expect a lot of money to be spent and a lot of stupid bills to be introduced.

Stupid bills like SB 5046

Placing symphony orchestras, operas, and performing arts theaters under the jurisdiction of the public employment relations commission for purposes of collective bargaining.

1. Wasn't this kind of predicted when they unionized foster care? Next thing, we will have unionized 7-11 clerks. Mark my words.

2. The urge to tax and spend and regulate by (D)s currently in charge of the WA Leg is apparently unlimited.

3. My favorite is a bill to increase density around all major transit centers to a minimum of 50 units per acre, in all areas within a half mile of said transit centers. It throws out all of the comprehensive and master plans of every city. Cities will be required to accommodate densities greater than now exists in downtown Seattle, or anywhere between here and San Francisco. All of this is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Not to worry though. Sidewalks and bicycle lanes are ordered as part of this loss of self-determination, and airports are exempt.

4. Basically we have a $7 billion deficit and the legislature is doing - nothing. I guess it's ok for our state's credit rating to go to shit.

6. HHhmmmm..... someone moderately wiser than I said something about "no man's property" being "safe while the legislature was in session."

No truer words, etc.
