Today is the Snohomish County GOP Re-Organizational meeting. I can't be there, so some of the point of this thread is self-serving, so I can get news. I really have no idea who will be elected to any of the important positions.

Posted by: org meeting on January 10, 2009 12:01 PMThere were a good number of us so-called "Paulistinians" there, but there was no take-over. We just want to have our voices heard. I would say we had some modest victories here and there. For instance in the 38th LD, Kurt Hanke ran unopposed for District Chair. While not a Ron Paul supporter, I understand he wants to work with them and is amenable to some their ideas. Also in the 38th, Michelle McIntyre was elected Vice Chair, who as many of you know is a Ron Paul supporter.
The tone was very positive. Folks there understood that the GOP has a big task ahead of them, and that it's time for us to get to work. There seemed to be a lot of energy there, and people are ready to build on that.
One of the themes I heard today was that of unity. Some used the "80% friends" meme from Reagan (I think). Jim Kellet borrowed from Augustine: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity."
Overall, it was a good day.
Posted by: Big Tex on January 10, 2009 03:52 PMYes, Kurt Hanke is a great guy to work with, and Michelle will tell you that though I am not a Ron Paul supporter, I also work well with others (and I think I was elected 39th LD Chair; if I had not been, I think someone would have called me by now :-).
Going in, Ron Paul supporters knew they were a minority. We knew that there were quite a few folks that would actually engage in discussion on the ~20% disagreement (Reagan meme again), rather than automatically categorize us as crazed lunatics. Likewise, most of us want to work with other Republicans to grow and strengthen the party. Enough about that.
Early in the re-org meeting, there was a gentleman (forget the name) that presented on five core values. Good stuff. It got a standing ovation by most if not all in attendance. Again, good stuff.
Best part for me: met two other homebrewers. Yeah, good stuff. :-)
