Where In The World Is Ron Sims?

What, if anything, has our county executive been doing to alleviate the effects of these snowstorms?

That's not a rhetorical question.  But I have seen and heard nothing about his activities in the last week.  I don't watch much of the local TV news programs, so I may have missed his efforts to help his constituents through this difficult time.

If Sims has been helping out, let's give him credit; if he hasn't, let's find out why he hasn't.

2. I'm certain Ron is only taking a "long winter's nap", while "visions of taxes and fees" dance in his otherwise empty head.

3. I think he's taking Mr. Creosote's place in Monte Python's "The Meaning of Life." Hopefully, he'll eat that one last chocolate wafer....

4. Obviously, like all politically correct Democrats, he's agitating behind the scenes for a sinecure with the Obama administration, and hasn't got time for mundane cares like the mobility of the citizens he supposedly represents.

Oh, the grandmas and the children out in the county, peering wistfully out their windows waiting for help to arrive over their impassable County roads...

5. I sincencerly do not care where he is or what he is doing. He is only a politician, he can not do anything without taking from others. I would rather he do little and been seen and heard less.

6. He's avoiding Gregoire...who Bert Prelutsky dubbed NOT "this year's meanest grinch" but instead bestowed upon her the honor of '2008's biggest Christmas fruitcake'.

Just 2008? He doesn't know her very well.

7. "WHO" cares, he is not pontificating on some worldly endeavor that will cost the county tax payers more money and put the county deeper in debt.
Maybe he is back in DC already "snowing" the big "O" on all his great achievements while at the county the past years.
Ronnie Who brings a whole new meaning to the word "snow"!

8. I just read on Seattle Times website that Sims just NOW declared a weather emergency. This move makes it easier for the county to contract for sand and plowing equipment!!

Maybe Nickels will follow suit next week....

9. I think Nickels plans to us all that power that he will garner from those solar cells atop of Quest Field to melt the snow and ice. See, no carbon footprint..chuckle!

10. He's off celebrating with Rahm Emanuel.

11. Seattle residents are defactor insane. They've elected Baghdad Jim 8x in a row with about 70%. Why would anyone expect them to demand better government all of a sudden - insane people do not get better with time.

12. Shhhhh. A day without Sims is a good day indeed.

Here in unincorporated KC, we have never had so much snow with so little care given to clearing side roads.

There used to be a strategy of getting the bus routes cleared ASAP so service disruptions are at a minimum. But, no attention has been given at all to the bus route in front of my house, where a bus hasn't been seen in 10 days.

13. They've elected Baghdad Jim 8x in a row with about 70%

He was elected in 1990, and re-elected in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008. So, he was re-elected nine times. While he got ~75% of the vote in most of those elections, he received 88% of the 1998 vote, and 85% of the 2008 vote. (In 1998, he had no major-party opponent; in 2008, his Republican opponent set the record for the lowest percentage of votes by a major-party candidate.)

He received the appellation "Baghdad Jim" in October 2002, when he stood atop a mosque in that city and declared, "I believe George Bush would deceive the American people." He was re-elected shortly thereafter, and then George Bush falsely announced that Iraq had tried to obtain uranium from Niger, thus validating Rep. McDermott's statement. We Seattle liberals smile whenever we hear the term "Baghdad Jim", as it reminds us of just how right he was.
