1. Cellular coyote is howling at the edge of your fingerprints...

2. Yesterday I filled up all of our gas cans for the generator...we were without electricity for five days after the '92 storm.

I tried to buy lamp oil at Fred Meyers and Lowes yesterday, both were out.

It it currently 5 degrees in Sultan, the coldest I've ever seen here. Where's AlGore when you need him?

Good Luck.

3. Plus NWS point forecast sez that (for example) North Bend is gonna get 3-5 inches of snow tonight and 2-4 more inches tomorrow. Mix that with ''SUSTAINED WINDS COULD REACH 50 TO 70 MPH WITH PEAK GUSTS OF 70 TO 90 MPH'', and the west foothills are on track to experience total white-out winter conditions driven by hurricane-force gusts.

Like Jim said in thread start, if you're in that area and not ready to survive on your own for a while without power, you're getting close to too late..... Somehow I'm also reminded again of the old saying: ''No civilization is more than 3 meals from a revolution''.... or; perhaps more aptly in this case: From disaster.

4. WRT 5 degrees in Sultan; coldest ever seen; and ''where's AlGore ??'':
Selling himself carbon credits.

SIDEBAR: Meanwhile, over here in the Methow Valley: As of 07:00 this morning, Mazama is reporting 15 degrees BELOW zero still air temp.

5. Heck it 19 in Mukilteo, and I live close to the water! Gezzzz.

Fire up the stove honey, it's going to be a long weekend!

6. It is waaay past 10 AM and no wind in sight. Maybe, the weather report is a little overblown. I hope so. Nevertheless, if it is not snowing, I'm going out tonight and enjoy a night of good cheer and dancing. As this day passes and I'm still not experiencing the Great Storm, I will be very pleased. Weather reports in Washington have been wrong before. I'm sure something may come through but, no way as harsh as being reported.

7. At 10:45am it is 18 F in Kirkland and the barometric pressure is 31.2" The pressure must drop substantially, (i.e. 29.7"), before the wind can howl around here. It remains to be seen whether the forecast is wrong or just within the scope of regular variability.

8. This is one occasion that I hope their wind forecast is wrong. If it is, potentially thousands would be sparred from losing their power during this cold snap.

9. 6 in Chimacum this morning, but it has warmed to the high teens and the sky is clouding up.

I have 60 gallons of diesel in my transfer tank for the generator, 4 cords of dry fir in the woodshed and am stocked with food for a month. What storm?

Stay safe, friends, and please help neighbors who may have no place else to go.

10. Jim, we've been feeding 2 hummingbirds all through this cold weather. We'll venture out for a few supplies later and make sure our neighbor,(who turns 90 next month), has what she needs as well. So far no wind here in beautiful Lake City, but looking at the satellite map it looks pretty grim to the south of us.

Posted by: Bill Cruchon on December 20, 2008 11:27 AM
11. Bill - I had to thaw out the feeder this morning at 10. (I had put it out at 7:30.) At least one hummingbird has learned to watch for me bringing the feeder out on my deck. It's there just seconds after I close the door to the deck. And it expresses its pleasure loudly, even before then.

This morning I did get an acceptable, though very brief, video of a hummer, which I will try to post later, maybe tomorrow.

Hope your neighbor is doing well. This kind of weather can be tough on older people

13. Excuse me, sir...

Wind? Wind! We're getting WIND?? Call Barry!

And please remember tomorrow is a very important date ...take to to celebrate!

15. It is snowing pretty good in south Bellevue.

16. Jim - Thanks for the well wishes for my neighbor.

What did she need at the store? Ice cream. An active, amazing woman whom I saw this fall pick up the heavy steel hand truck she uses to haul yard waste with one arm. Just the same I'd rather not see her driving her station wagon on these icy side streets.

Just starting to get the tiniest first few flakes of snow here but not a bit of wind. We've been watching the barometer and it's been rising since last night. That makes me think perhaps we aren't going to get a big blizzard at least in Seattle. Could likely be an entirely different story if you live in Enumclaw, or Monroe.

17. hey Methow, Sultan et al--what? supplies laid in? prepared and self-reliant? shame--i'm just sitting back hoping a Katrina-like debit card will come for me in the mail from FEMA--(not a bail-out but a bail-up!); the Age of the Victim;

seriously, take care & best to you folk; #10--nice touch with the neighbor--concerned folk who DO things work waaay better than a "hope-n-change" diatribe; and--best to our SP Friends in Spokane--

22. Jim, my wife makes sure that the birds in our neighborhood are well cared for.

You're probably right about the Anna's Hummingbird. We have Anna's, Black Chin, and (in the summer) Rufus Hummingbirds.

Somewhere we have a picture of six hummingbirds on one feeder. If I can find that I'll send it to you.

23. Wife just informed me the canopy we have over the hot tub just collapsed

24. My son was 2 hours delayed leaving Tampa.

He WAS supposed to leave Minneapolis at 5:25pm ... took off 12:57am ... and gets home to Seattle over SEVEN HOURS LATE!... hopefully at new scheduled time of 2:41am ... if they can land with snow and wind.

It's still snowing here in the eastern foothills.

25. We were one of the few crazy people out driving late tonight. Left Woodway at 10:00 pm and drove all the way home to Sammamish in about an hour with all snowy roads and blowing snow squall all the way home. The streets in my neighborhood are now filled with snow such that the snow is now even with the top of the sidewalks so you can't actually see where the sidewalk ends and the street begins. Very weird. I've never seen snow conditions quite like this, here in my little neck of the woods.
In other news, we picked up our rat terrier from the hospital today. He was hit by a car on Thursday night when we got that first huge batch of snow. His hip was knocked out of the socket, and his left eye was grotesquely damaged. (the image of it jutting out an entire inch+ like a telescope is still haunting me). They surgically repaired his hip yesterday, and the eye---it was a lost cause: they removed the eyeball and sewed the eyelids shut. And that's how he'll be the rest of his life. Otherwise, I'm sure he'll be his usual active self in a month or two. But he's a convalescing mess right now. Poor little guy.

26. Currently raining in PR...wonder if it'll snow. :)

Posted by: Duffman on December 21, 2008 06:46 AM
27. Duffie, you dog! Here in South Summit, Pierce County, it started snowing a fine powder around 2:00 p.m. and stopped around 10 p.m. No wind at all, no disturbance except for neighborhood idiots doing donuts in ATV's, doing their best to hit the occasional parked car on the road. Haven't measured, but it looks like an accumulation of maybe six inches. Very pretty, but I've had enough now, thank you!

28. Drove all the way to Seattle and back last night for a Christmas party. It was no problem at all. Lots of snow, but if you have the right equipment, and have snow driving experience, it is not bad. Did not see as much as a single gust of wind the entire way up or back. Another Snowmageddon scare story turned on its head.

Posted by: Jeff B. on December 21, 2008 09:32 AM
29. Jeff@28 - I hear ya.

I drove out the Snoqualmie Casino last night and it wasn't bad. Most people were driving around 50mph on I-90 and seemed to know what they were doing.

I have some Christmas shopping to do at Bellevue Square before the Seahawks game today and I'm not looking fwd to a bunch of "mall mommas" on the roads that might not know how to drive in snow. All it takes is one accident in that area and it will be gridlocked.

Posted by: Smoley on December 21, 2008 10:29 AM
30. Duffman @26,

If you are all out of snow, I am quite sure Mr Obama can send you some. I hear he was real good at snow "blow" back in the day.
