We in the Evergreen State are more than familiar with the hardball politics of SEIU (just ask Helen Sommers). Perhaps its little surprise then there is not just one, but two significant stories about corruption in SEIU leadership.
Both stories point to, dare I say, a "culture of corruption" that is at the same time troubling, yet not so surprising. Here's a video relevant to the first story:

Posted by: Medic/Vet on December 15, 2008 07:55 AMYeah, that's FREE alright. Another smart idea from the dem's & unions. What next, they club you and slash your ties if you don't join.
No thanks!
Posted by: Medic/Vet on December 15, 2008 08:32 AMIn the 78 years since the NLRA's inception, there have been only 42 documented cases -- in 78 years! -- of union misconduct in the signing of union authorization forms. That's less than one case every two years.
Compare that to the 29,559 instances in 2007 alone of illegal firings and other discrimination against workers for exercising their federally protected labor law rights. That's a ratio of almost 50,000 to one.
If you oppose the Employee Free Choice Act because you hate unions, say so. That's your right. But don't pretend this law would magically turn union organizers into vandals, thugs or... goons.
Posted by: Labor Goon on December 15, 2008 09:28 AMNo matter how much lipstick you put on this pig... at the end of the day, this non-private vote WILL result in labor thugs intimidating opponents and businesses... and your numbers only prove that figures don't lie, but liars figure.
of 32,313 posts by union thugs, only 34,917 were lying scum.
See? I can play with numbers, just like you!
And did you know that 78.3% of all statistics are made up on the spot?
Posted by: Hinton on December 15, 2008 09:55 AMThe current election system is already rife with illegal intimidation and harassment -- by employers. That is clearly documented. And that is why the Chamber of Commerce and others are so panicked that this might pass, because they know their rigged election system is in jeopardy if their employees decide they don't want to expose themselves to that harassment.
Under the Employee Free Choice Act, it's simply up to the workers to decide -- not management -- whether they want a "private" ballot election that gives their employers the opportunity to interfere, or if they want to have the majority decide the issue by signing cards instead.
Posted by: Labor Goon on December 15, 2008 10:07 AMYeah that makes sense.
OK, for your info Goon (what a fiting name) I did belong to a union. (IAFF)
I caught our leadership them more than once when they lying to our brothers.
Posted by: Medic/Vet on December 15, 2008 10:39 AMDon't give me this (Free Choice BULL)
For some of us who have been around the last 50+ years know better.
Posted by: Medic/Vet on December 15, 2008 11:44 AMI oppose the Employee Free Choice Act.
I hate unions... I despise them with every fiber of my being.
Unions (thugs [goons]) tell workers they are too lazy to think for themselves.
Unions (thugs [goons]) tell workers they are too stupid to act in their own best interest.
Like slaves before them, the workers are told they exist soley by the beneficence of the Unions (thugs [goons]).
Unions (thugs [goons]) are the SLAVE MASTERS of the modern world... and an obsolete work force.

No, the slaves don't get to decide anything. Ths Union thug [goon] SLAVE MASTERS are using a well known technique to keep them in line: humiliation and the ire of fellow slaves for group punishment.
The question is, should we keep a system that allows management to decide whether they get several months to harass and intimidate folks into voting against unionization, or should we change it to one where the workers choose what kind of election they want? -Posted by Labor Goon at December 15, 2008 11:02 AM
This is about the above mentioned humiliation and intimidation to FORCE non-thug [goon]organizations into Union slavery. Walmart and the SUCCESSFUL auto industry in right to work states come immediately to mind.
Somehow I just suspect that our Labor Goon is a SLAVE MASTER not a slave.

Posted by: jimg on December 15, 2008 03:55 PMWashington state has a significantly higher proportion of union members than other states (our state ranks No. 4 in the country), and a decidedly anti-corporate mentality (see our activist labor history and State Constitution). To the extent that State Republicans have embraced the anti-union pro-corporate rhetoric and posture of Southern Republicans -- like the ones who just killed the loans for the Big 3 automakers -- you manage to alienate yourselves from many otherwise conservative voters.
So keep up the anti-union rhetoric, everybody... if you like being a weak minority. Then again, I guess it's a lot easier to second-guess and whine from the sidelines than it is to actually run things.
Posted by: Labor Goon on December 16, 2008 11:14 AMYes, because of AN OVER ABUNDANCE OF GOVERNMENT WORKERS....who are forced to join the union even when it's against their will.
And that's yet another dirty little secret of the union thugs... if you want to work in certain industries, you have no CHOICE but to obey the slave master.
Nice try.

Let me correct that for you: "if you like just being WEAK. Then again, I guess it's a lot easier to let someone else run your life than it is to actually take responsibility for yourself. I guess it's easier when you abdicate to the slave master"
Posted by: Ragnar Danneskjold on December 16, 2008 11:43 AMBuh-bye. Best of luck in the 2010 elections, O Ye of the Permanent Minority.
Posted by: Labor Goon on December 16, 2008 02:51 PMReal intellectual honesty there... do you get union wages for it?
