About that Chopp Viaduct "Plan"
Someone with a major stake in the game finally comes down hard against Frank Chopp's monstrous Viaduct dreams. It's about time.
Though for the sake of the Downtown Seattle Association, I trust this is currently their highest priority issue in Olympia; because everything else is now in potential danger.

1. Sounds like everyone is waiting for the bailout to include a trillion or so in public works programs. However, both Obama and the Republicans say those funds have a lag time before they can be used- up to a year, at least, and up to five years in this state due to environmental and contracting rules.
Of course, the State should have had the design done so this money could be spent right away. The 5 Ps come into effect here.
If the bailout doesn't happen, I hope sometime a budget conscious legislature commissions a study to revisit the retrofit.
2. I wonder Swatter. Can Obama afford to pay for another BIG DIG. Because if they did do that idea, the cost will be just the same or more.
3. Can Obama afford to pay for another BIG DIG.
Obama, good 'progressive' that he is, never has to worry about costs for any project. His role is to perceive what sort of project will harvest the most votes to perpetuate his power. The role of paying for 'his' projects is reserved to us lower beings who don't belong to the Chicago mob and can't escape the IRS.
4. General Secretary Chopp, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet of Seattle and King County, if you seek liberalization: Come up here to this on-ramp! Mr. Chopp, close your checkbook! Mr. Chopp, tear down this wall!
5. Where can I get some of the good stuff, Acid?
6. hehe ... swat - it grows among the ferns and ivy on the pillars at Alaskan Way and Main St.
7. Shops? Has Chopp not heard about the stores who will close or be closing several locations? There won't be enough general demand for this sort of thing.
This Chopp idea reminds me of people who want to buy life insurance, and who make the mistake of getting 'whole life' insurance (insurance with a lame savings component to it) versus just getting straight term insurance. Let's stay focused, Chopp!Build and viaduct. Not a 'whole life' viaduct.
8. I've made no secret regarding my overall disgust for Seattle, which includes the city and the majority (leftists) of its residents. With that said, Washington State should begin pitching the Feds for $$$$ to build a thru-traffic bypass, along the lines of I-205 in the Portland area. The new highway should pass east of Lake Sammamish, with ample interchanges to existing arterials and highways. Building freeways in urban areas is such an incredible waste of money. Washington state needs to tell Seattle to stick it and proceed to do what is best for the region.
9. But Eric, this leaves the final design choice in the hands of the Three Stooges.
