Mayor Nickels Vows to Violate Citizens' Rights

As the P-I reports, Mayor Nickels is planning to go ahead with a ban on guns on Seattle City land, and damn our rights: state law allows citizens to have guns there, and explicitly prohibits local regulations to the contrary.

Nickels' spokesperson says the city needs more "clarity" on state law. She's lying. We know what state law says, and McKenna's office gave any clarification they needed. What she means is that she is trying to force the overturning of state law through the violation of it.

Nickels is just one more Democrat who does not respect the rule of law.

The P-I story also falsely claims that President Bush allowed the "assault weapons ban" to expire. No renewal of the plan ever came before him. Maybe the reporter and editors don't realize Congress, not the President, makes laws?

1. This is exactly the kind of arrogance that Nickels has demonstrated on a number of issues. Is anyone surprised?

As FDR used to say, "There are 47 states (in FDR's time) and the Soviet of Seattle."

2. It's difficult to understand how anyone can read that legislative statute and not understand its clarity. The state decides firearm restrictions, period.

3. Palouse: the DO understand its clarity. They are trying to force the hand of an activist court or liberal legislature. They know they are breaking the law. There's no doubt in their mind of it. They just don't CARE.

4. "BagMan" Nichols knows two things:

First, he knows he's gonna lose on this and second, he knows he wants to polish his anti-gun cred for an Oblama appointment.

5. This same tactic was used in Pierce CO. to impose a smoking ban. It not only worked but resulted in a State wide ban thru the Initiate process. I can see the NRA is going to be busy for the next few years!

6. @1 it was not FDR but his Postmaster General James Farley who said that.

As for the rule of law, aren't you conservatives upset by the way Bush & Co. had the government spy on its citizens?

7. As for the rule of law, aren't you conservatives upset by the way Bush & Co. had the government spy on its citizens?

Yes, I am, actually, especially to the extent that it violates the law.

And even if I weren't: you should still keep your tu quoque fallacies to yourself. It's unbecoming.

8. Sorry for the off-topic Pudge but just had to lay this on you in case you wanted to respond. :)
From a post on the 'other side': [I think she has a crush on you]

'Duff I see that Pudge has yet to come on my Blatherwatch site to congratulate Obama on his victory.
Anyone catch what Malloy had to say today? Good stuff.

9. To the tune of 'Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone' and respect to song-writer/performer Bill Withers:

Ain't no guns here when their gone
It's not safe when their away
Ain't no guns here when their gone
And their always gone too long anytime
They go away

Wonder this time if they'll go
Wonder if they'll go to stay
Ain't no guns here when their gone
And this town just ain't a safe home
Anytime they go away
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know I know, I know, I know

Hey Mayor leave the guns alone
But ain't no guns here when their gone

Ain't no guns here when their gone
Only darkness everyday
Ain't no guns here when their gone
And this town just ain't a safe home
Anytime they go away
Anytime they go away
Anytime they go away
Please don't take our guns ..away.

10. The clarity of the law is already posted on the A.G. website.

I don't see how it can be dumbed down any more for Nickels.

11. I expect Pudge is exactly right @ #3 above:
They DO understand what they are doing. How could anyone not, when the 1st sentance of RCW 9.41.290 clearly sez:

''The state of Washington hereby fully occupies and preempts the entire field of firearms regulation within the boundaries of the state, including the registration, licensing, possession, purchase, sale, acquisition, transfer, discharge, and transportation of firearms, ......''

I've read a lot of RCWs, and ''fully occupies and preempts'' is about as clear as they get.

12. In less volatile times, I would agree that Roll of Nickels doesn't have a chance, but then again, I didn't think Gregoire would pull it off either. I for one will be watching DC to see if Mr. "I was for the gun ban before I was against it" Obama is going to be hit up to reinstate it.

Here in unicorporated King county, first time gun sales are increasing and an appointment to apply for a concealed firearm license is over a month out. Nature and crime abhor a vacuum. If Nickels gets his way, the people of Seattle will find themselves without even the illusion of protection.

13. Why is anyone surprised? Seattle is our San Francisco of the north. They will violate any and all civil rights. What else do you expect from a city that elects Baghdad Jim 8x?

14. It's a GREAT time to be a criminal in the city of Seattle!!!!

When the police aren't investigating strip clubs, they can't do anything OR they will be the ones charged with violating the rights of criminals...

15. Yet another reason to simply avoid Seattle... Can I get a police escort everywhere I go, like Mayor Waste-Of-Space?

SO glad he's worrying about lawful citizens exercising their constitutional (Federal and State) rights, the horrors of plastic bags, and the evils of plastic bottles for water! I can understand now why he has no time left to deal with crumbling infrastructure, rampant crime in public spaces, and blown budgets...

16. ...and don't forget the recent senseless murder of a Seattle icon...Tuba Man; soooooo sad. :(

17. Gee Pudge, what's wrong with the Mayor restricting guns to only the gangs who run the downtown area, anyway? They are the merchants who supply the crack, meth, pot, smack and all other drugs that keep Seattle Running! Citizens running around carrying guns might interfere with that big business activity. It's clear that the Seattle Police department is outgunned and outmanned by the Bloods and the Crips downtown, MS 13 and others in the valley.

19. I have an idea. How about we outlaw any politician
that even suggests anything contrary to our
Constitution. Ship Nickels to Siberia. What a
moron.

20. Maybe Nickels should focus on gun bans in the Rainier Beach area first. Maybe Crissy and the DOC can assist him by putting an end to the early release of felons.

Is Nickels another clown who never had a real job?

21. I just joined the NRA, though I don't own a gun.
I'm planning on getting a concealed carry permit as well.

I suggest that more people do the same.

22. Greg has personal body guards; we only have tent cities & early-release-offenders placed on OUR streets; have a nice diversity & tolerance day !

and Capt. Gil--this guy lost his OWN weapon; most young kids never lost their library cards; go figure--Putz;

We're on our own...think Katrina

23. and another thing...
if govt take guns away, will the police have THEIR cuffs off? bring back libreal use of night sticks on resisters; shoot to kill orders for offenders fleeing? doubt it;

24. I get frisked for guns everytime I enter a Seahawks game. Anyone know what law allows them to exclude legal firearms? I even had a pocket knife (aka: weapon) confiscated once.

25. Anyone ever wonder why trial attourneys contribute so heavily to the Donkeycrats?
Follow the money. You think a handful of people are going to make a boatlaod of money litigating this thing? You think the citizens of the City of Seattle is going to have to pay the bill for these lawsuits, appeals, etc etc? Do you think a trial of these dollasrs will ever get linked from campaign contribution, to stupid law, to litigating stupid laws, back to the lawers?

So, Our Mayor tries to pass a previously determined illegal law. Immediately lawsuits go up everywhere. Lawyers making money at the taxpayers expense under the orchestration of our Mayor, who in turn gets funded heavily by these lawyers.

Why is theis never brought up as an issue? why?

Do you think MR Pickles would do this if he was on the hot seat for paying the legal fees that will ensue? Something tells me that fat bastard is doing a little community organizing here.....
Damn I hate the places our gov is going.

26. put the frikin' tent cities in Greg's or Gil's backyards...and no special treatments...

...and then I'll become a true believer;

lead by example; if you have the almonds;
