Christine Gregoire Owes Obama
Or more importantly, owes his campaign operation.
There will be more to say on this race, but for now here's statistic that jumps out from this year's exit poll in our gubernatorial contest:
Vote for Governor in 2004
- 46% of voters this year said they voted for Gregoire last time, they went 92% - 8% for her this time around.
- 38% of voters this year said they voted for Rossi last time, they went 92% - 7% for him this year.
- 14% of voters this year said they didn't cast a ballot in this race in 2004, they went 56% - 36% for Gregoire.
Whatever the variables of exit polls, that's a brutally difficult dynamic for Rossi to have overcome.

1. DUH!
2. This is very true, I was considering drawing a characature of Obama with long coat-tails with Queen Christine riding on them. What a disappointing election this has been.
3. I ABSOLUTELY agree. Gregoire effectively ran the worst campaign I've ever seen. I'm glad that Rossi isn't in the office, but I hope that in the next election we can get a candidate that actually has charisma and a good campaign staff.
4. typical dumbo kid - he thinks "charisma" is the primary qualification for high office. No wonder he's slack jawed in awe of "The One". History will remember your kind as the dumbest ever.
5. @4: Charisma isn't a qualification, but it helps with the campaigning. I get the sense that Gregoire would have won by a bigger margin if she didn't remind people of a fifth-grade teacher or their mother-in-law.
6. So with the econ going down and the dem's wanting to tax and spend even more. Just how is the gov going to handle the debt? 3.2 and growing.
If this state should lose Boeing, well folks in Seattle & Everett can turn out the lights. This party IS over!
7. Oh, poor Rossi.
He is slimy. The voters saw that.
Dismissed. Now go away.
8. I believe Republicans basically got what they deserved this election, but for the case of Rossi.
I truly don't understand how the ads with lies about minimum wage, birth control pills, etc could convince anyone. They are retarded.
9. Governor "Coat tails". Once again, not elected on her own merits.
Keep throwing away good people Washington. Soon you'll know what it's like to be California.
10. In 2004, Rossi struck me as a slimy little weasel. He really outdid himself in this election.
The "soiled diapers" advertisement was one of the most despicable pieces of political advertising I've ever seen. I'm not a Republican, but I'd like to think that sincere Republicans were appalled by it.
By the way, Rossi's campaign ads were the slickest I've ever seen, anywhere. Didn't seem to do much good, though. If his attacks hadn't been so personal, he might have won.
11. wow scott... I hope you are not breeding... People want all these services guess what it takes money! If Rossi got in office true he would cut taxes but goodbye to other programs like education and transportation...who knows whatelse.. republicans only retue for most people seem to be they all abotu cutting taxes and runnign up our debt. I'd much rather pay my taxes and know there is enough funding for our programs... rossi is all about corporate america and giving breaks to the already wealthy %12 of my pay compaired to 12% of a person who makes 100k+ is nothing and small price to pay for ensureing proper funding as opposed to RECKLESS tax cuts that do nothign but up inflation anyway!
12. I voted Rossi last time but Gregoire this time. His ads turned me off and he didn't put himself out there to the public like Gregoire did. He came off 'slick' this election. And his concession speech confirmed my worst fears. "It's all about me" even when folding up his campaign. For me Gregoire was the lesser of two evils.
13. Too late Dem Forever. I already bred. And I'm teaching my kids not to rely on government for their every need. I'm teaching them to be smart, self reliant, independent thinkers, unlike most democrats in this state who loyally vote for whomever the news media tells them to. If one party rule forever is your style, China or Russia or North Korea might be good choices for ya. I prefer checks and balances to ultimate power by one party...I guess I'm just wierd that way!
Funny thing is, Dem Forever, in the TWO things for which I do rely on governmment, decent roads and schools that actually make my kids smarter, the government has totally fallen on it's face. Try driving through Seattle on I-5 any week day between 3 and 6 PM. And when you arrive LATE to wherever you were going, get on a computer and check out Washington's SAT scores vs. say Japan or Taiwan, or the rest of the nation.
14. "... hope that in the next election we can get a candidate that actually has charisma and a good campaign staff."
Wow, is this what the average Washington voter thinks is important? To hell with the local economy, DSHS kids dying on your watch, DOC/Pedophile parolees unaccounted for, 3.2B dollar state deficit you've created and traffic gridlock.....Pretty hair, nice teeth and smooth charm can more than offset these other trivial matters, right?
No wonder so many turnips voted for Obama...he is the 'change' they were seeking.
15. @14: No, moron. Rossi was a tool. I thought that he was going to win, though, because he hammered away at one point effectively over and over again with the public. And if you talk with a good number of independents that supported Rossi, I'd bet you that they didn't give a crap about the issues that you listed.
