Reichert v. Burner - UPDATED

Thanks to Pierce County we may have a data void tonight...on top of how long it will take for King to a) tally mail-in ballots and b) collect and report poll votes.

First returns, early mail-in ballots in King County (which will be Burner's best batch):

Burner 57% to Reichert's 43%.

BUT, that accounts for less than 11% turnout in only the King County portion of the 8th CD.

Waiting game time...

11:47 PM - Here's the link for results broken down by county.

King County poll results are trickling in, mail-in ballots are being counted s-l-o-w-l-y, and one of these days Pierce County will figure out a way to catch up after playing around with their "ranked choice voting" for their countywide offices.

It's tightened down to 52.4% for Burner to 47.6% for Reichert as of this typing. Keep in mind that first batch of King County mail-in ballots likely came in before the "I have a degree in economics" fumble.

Currently, Pierce County turnout is at around 25% based on ballots counted and King County is under 18%.

This one is going to take a while. I'm going to bed now...see you early in the am.

1. If she gets in the 8th can hold their head high as it sent someone that makes Patty Murray look smart.
And to the voters of the 47th... sending Bluto the beater back to Olympia? A liar has been made of Lincoln about fooling people.

2. Things are far from over for WA, counting not done. What is Queen Chrissie doing giving a victory speech? Am flabbergasted.

3. Take heart you right wingers that probably one of Washington's most articulate polititians, Maria Cantwell served just one term in Congress.
My suggestion is to nominate a candidate who can campaign on his vision and not on demonizing his or her opponent.

4. @4, On the other hand, for the Dems the qualifications for office are: "No experience necessary". From the President on down.

What a country!!!

I will keep the pressure on you forever.

Losers.

7. Only right-wingers are smart. Only right-wingers work. Only right-wingers love their families. Only right-wingers pay taxes. Only right-wingers meet payrolls. Only right-wingers can fight. Only right-wingers love their country. Right-wingers lose only because their candidates aren't right-wing enough.

Guess what? Only right-wingers believe any of the above. How did this election work out for you right-wingers?

8. So ivan, you ever signed the front of a paycheck?
Just asking....

Posted by: Michele on November 4, 2008 11:26 PM
9. Thanks to left-wingers, I've signed the front of my last paycheck. Hope you enjoy unemployment.

10. Yes, Michele, I have, many times, signed the front of a paycheck. I'm also smart, I also work, I also love my family, I also pay taxes, I also love my country, and I damn sure can fight.

And tonight I am feeling jolly well elated. We are beating Toby Nixon and that posturing clown Glenn Anderson so far, too. How do you like that, Michele? Just dandy, isn't it?

12. Katomar,

KC Elections has completed the count, and know how many votes they need to manufacture to guarantee a win. That's what they're working on right now...

14. If Reichert loses this race, we have to get Reagan Dunn to run. He's our best hope.

15. There is absolutely no mathematical reason to say Gregoire won. I love it when the liberals prove how stupid they are.

Maybe she'll win, maybe she won't. But the numbers do not support any claim of victory. Less than half the vote counted, no exit polls, no models for early vs. late voting ... no anything.

Sad, just sad.

16. pudge - to be honest, the margin is worse for Rossi than 2004 in Spokane, Clark, Snohomish, and Kitsap Counties. Those are all key bellwethers, as they were when Rossi did so well in 2004. Given the incredibly high numbers of ballots counted outside of King (much higher than at this point in 2004) mean hopes for a Rossi victory depend on hundreds of thousands of ballots in King County itself. That's nigh impossible.

The close counties Rossi needed to win are tipping the wrong way. That's why I'm ready to say this contest is all but over.

Posted by: Eric Earling on November 5, 2008 12:15 AM
17. Yeah, that's technically correct, Pudge. But she's leading by 80,830 votes, with 65.5 percent of King County's ballots left to be counted.

Do you like Rossi's odds? I don't. I'd say Gregoire's lead is likely to grow. I'd say the voters didn't buy what Dino was selling. I'd find it hard to come to any other conclusion.

18. Reagan Done?

I might be able to produce a few signs like that.

19. Barack O'Reagan....GOP

I can see the lawn signs now.

20. King County just dropped another 200 or so poll precincts in the 8th CD in the hopper. The race is really tightening up.

Burner WAS ahead by 26,791 to 22,068 in King County at 11:27 P.M.

With the new poll precincts dropped at 12:22 AM, Burner is now ahead by only 34,990 to 32,955 in King County (with 311 out of 747 poll precincts counted).

Overall lead is now 46,068 Burner to 45,347 Reichert.

I am afraid Burner will be behind Reichert by a couple thousand votes when all the poll precincts in King County finish being reported in the next hour or so.

Posted by: Richard Pope on November 5, 2008 12:31 AM
21. Or maybe not. The King County poll precincts in the 8th CD that have reported are almost all in the southern part of the county. Almost nothing in the 45th and 48th LD has reported, and less than 1/4 of the 41st LD. So those poll precincts should not be as strong for Reichert as those in places like the 47th LD and 31st LD. So maybe Burner will still be ahead at the end of the night, but it will be very close.
