History

Whatever the outcomes this evening - or in coming days (sigh) - we have had the pleasure of witnessing history.

An unprecedented and unheard of Presidential primary season, a marathon, topsy turvy Presidential general election season, and an unheard of race for Governor in our Evergreen State. The events and intensity of that race make it a once-in-a-generation contest, perhaps once in a lifetime.

It has been a graduate-level course in politics for anyone interested. Readers, thanks for sharing part of it here.

You may know return to your waiting...or GOTV calls.

1. GOTV calls are better than waiting. Let's do it, people! Btw, I learned that Dino will be out at the Bellevue intersection next to Whole Foods between 12 & 1, if y'all want to sign-wave with him during that hour! Should be fun.

2. Michele,

And even more fun if Dino de-thrones the Queen.

Tsk.

4. Don't forget to Tivo as much of the coverage on the major networks you can so that you have proof that Michael Moore is wrong when he claims that the media called the race early for McCain or whatever in his next movie.

5. I saw this.

6.
In my mind, we just lived 8 years of history.

I think the Bush Presidency will go down as one of the most significant and people will reanalyze him as one of the greatest.

Whoever wins today, will be 4 more years of Bush, because Bush set the template of what a 21st century President does.

8. Whatever differences, agreed, seen alike, or perceived differently - extended thanks to those here who expressed themselves most vehemently: thanks for expanding my awareness the last several months. Whatever outcomes are hoped for or realized tomorrow, the conversations around here have been tough, unique, and pretty damn enlightening, despite any appearance to the contrary. Cheers, hope everyone has a great couple of days.

9. My circle of friends and business associates
are all hoping for a McCain victory and the
consensus amongst us is to cut way back on the
effort and risk of running our business because
of the fact that IT AINT WORTH THE RISK if
Obama is just going to take whats left. If he wins
you are going to start seeing MASSIVE LAYOFFS.
You heard it HERE. GOOD LUCK.

10. Mark, you are exactly right; in the 90s I consistently employed 12-18 employees. I was giving 1/2 to the government as taxes. In exchange, I got a glorified wage.

I started up again a few years back under the Bush tax cuts. No way and no how am I going to continue to participate for a glorified wage again. No way am I going to go through the stress of having employees, the responsiblity of a product, the stress of collecting bills, etc. etc. Thanks, but no thanks.

I have already told the employees I was going to wait a few months to see if Obama can do what he said he was going to do to us. If he does even half, I am bailin' (Note: pun intended for poster John Bailo of SP).

11. Dittos Mark & Swatter...after Queen Christine, no way we can afford our two employees under Obama. More jobs lost. Instead of calling the IRS checks welfare, they can be unemployment benefits.

12. IMO the stock markets haven't stabilized b/c they are waiting to see election results. I predict more losses if Obama wins, as companies cut back and hunker down into survial mode.

13. One of the greatest? Perhaps not, but he'll be remembered well. Anybody who denies this should remember how "terrible" Truman was and how Ike "Didn't do anything".

14. The real "history" here is the historic nature of the slanted reporting, the unprecidented assault on one candidate by all media, movies, so-called news, and the entertainment industry.
The real history, if Obama wins, is that we will point to this day as the day welost the country to socialism. This wasn't even a fair fight.

15. It has been a graduate-level course in politics for anyone interested. Readers, thanks for sharing part of it here.

Unfortunately, the graduate level in politics was not even approached by the MSM 'news and information' services that serve the vast majority of the public in the USA: network TV, and the gaggle of print journos who follow the New York Times.

These 'agencies' did not at all work for the benefit of the public at large, preferring to use their declining powers to put a very fat thumb on the electoral scales. Providing full information on the greenest candidate ever run by a major party, the overhyped BHO, was shunned in favor of myopic digging of dirt on Governor Palin - whom the MSM had actually liked as Governor, but then painted as the fount of moral turpitude as soon as she posed a threat to the Democratic slate.

The graduate level course in politics could be found here and there on the Internet, but it was available only to the few who had the time and interest to dig constantly for relevant information. In a participatory democracy, this fact is a grim portent when facing a possible Government comprised by Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and ultimately a hard-left Supreme Court. What would prevent such an Administration from lavishly funding a 'domestic security force' sufficiently intrusive to keep tabs at block level (as ACORN likes to do) of the political activities of everyone in the country? Or from lavishly funding the MSM ("essential to our People's Democracy!") to keep that thumb on the scales, while driving talk radio and other alternate news sources out of public life?

Keep a hard eye on the new Administration, and hang onto an unregulated Internet - if the Obama allies at Google and Yahoo and Microsoft don't apply the rules here that they do in 'complying' with the Chinese techniques of controlling the traffic.

16. Just some "good news" of secure voting here in America.

100,000 Voters suspected of voting twice.

17. Discussing the election today at work with my 4 other co-workers... all Seattle residents...

Turns out one guy who moved here in August got two mail in ballots at his home, both in the same name.

Another guys wife got a ballot in her maiden name and her married name, they got married last year and she has been trying to cancel the registration in her maiden name but they sent out a ballot anyway.

accuracy any subprime lender would be proud of!

18. Personally I think this part of history starts with Bill Clinton. Reagan was the end of an era and the first Bush was a non-event.

Clinton started us down the path of situational ethics and no personal responsibility. He is also responsible for increasing surveillance on US citizens and targeting various groups. Something Bush embraced and expanded upon. With full support of both parties.

Obama and Democrats in general have shown in the last few elections that they are full on board with this. The Obama campaign swarmed Alaska to dig up dirt on Palin. The press ate up all of it. Even though ALL of it was false.

We get Joe the Plumber who speaks out about socialism and is immediately a target. Facts about Obamas illegal aunt come out and there are calls for a congressional investigation.

No matter who wins look for more crackdowns on dissent. We are on the fast track to fascism and I only see a McCain win as slowing it down a little.

Expect more Wacos.

19. It gets worse. In PA the Black Panthers were caught trying to stop people from voting...
(FOX news)

So Obama, tell us about your friends again.

22. "Go Obama Go"

Yeah I can't wait either. I can't wait for Obama to get the kind of beating GWB has recieved by the far left whack-a-do libs for the last 8 years.

Sure Obama will blame everything on Bush for the first couple of years, but that hat will get old and he will get eaten alive. The dems in the house that created this financial nightmare won't have anyone to blame anymore. Ask Clinton about this when everyone thought it was the end of the democratic party in 2000 when it was a Republican sweep.

Yes the conservatives won't have Hollywood or the Media on their side...but the obvious truth sometimes gets too loud to ignore. And when people start to realize there are no checks and balances, freedoms errode, taxes go up, unemployement rises with it...well...it will be interesting.

Off shore accounts here I come!

23. Hinton - What a great wit you posess!

DJ - Please follow your money offshore.

Everyone else - Look in the mirror, conservatives. Yes the Democrats were culpable for a lot of the mess we're in now but the conservative Republicans were in charge of the White House for the last 8 years. When will you folks ever admit that you've screwed up? 95% of what I see on this blog is y'all blaming everyone else.

Have a wonderful night tonight!

24. It's like this is a bizarro world election. I have little faith in America if they actually elect this snake oil salesman Obama.

25. Go Obama Go, you nihilist, you won't have the satisfaction of seeing us go to therapy and support groups if Obama wins. No, we'll strap on our swords, and set out with grim determination to do what we can to salvage the West.

26. It's a miracle McCain is even this close given the non-stop negative coverage he and the Republicans in general have recieved from our "public" airwaves. I wonder if Chuckie Schumer's "fairness doctrine" will address THAT huge inequity? Hmmm, probably not. When Democrats get to decide what "fair" is, well...we know what "fair taxes" means to them, don't we?
