Mail-In Ballot Returns

Per reader and commenter "Glenno," I decided to update the ballot return statistics discussed at this post, showing the percentage of mail-in ballots returned to respective counties that make such data available online. Unless otherwise noted the numbers are through October 31:

King - 42.18%

Pierce [pdf] - 38.44%

Spokane [pdf] - 51.09%

Snohomish [pdf] (10/30) - 33.67%

Clark - 49.15%

Yakima [pdf] - 49.26%

Kittitas - 52.74%

Benton [pdf] (not included in original post): 53.03%

Note that King & Pierce still have poll voting available so ballot returns there are not a reflection of total potential ballots cast.

1. "Old equipment will slow King County vote tally

King County's 16-year-old ballot-counting equipment will contribute to a slow statewide count that could leave voters still wondering Tuesday night who the next Washington governor will be."

So the vote will slow until all other counties have reported and then miraculously King County will report the Gregoire has 149 more votes than Rossi.

2. Cowlitz County reported a 52% return of mailed ballots as of Friday morning. See tdn.com for front page article.

3. To prevent a predicted King County vote conspiracy, it would be smart to contact the auditor of Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane county along with the SOS office and request that those counties DO NOT finalize and refuse to send in their returns until after King County has done so. Sure it is unorthodox, but how else does this state stop their vote mining practices ?

This will help keep part of the elections out of their control. Sorry to say, I don't trust King County R & E Div. any more than I did in 2004.

4. You guys are all wet.

When that stuff happened back in '04, they found THE GUY who was responsible and fired his ass.

All Fixed!
Nothing to see here, move along.

5. Remember 2004 over a thousand more ballots in KC than people recorded as voting. WE need to keep an eye on those numbers this year. KC needs watching.

6. Uncle Steve. Getting rid of one person does not fix a broken system. KC has to prove they are not corrupting the election process. You have to earn trust not fire one person and say it is fixed.
Fraud can happen if it is done by those working for the department. They lost their trust or belief that they are honest. If we find again more people voting or dead people voting again. WE know KC can not be fixed without firing everyone. Because we do not know who is guilty and who is innocent. Corruption of the system once accepted means innocent people will have to lose their jobs.

7. King County has reported they have received over 3,500 mail-in ballots with "signature" issues, and therefore they won't be counted. How do I find out if my ballot is one of those?

8. Uncle Steve is apparently trying to hide something that he knows with the tone of his comment. He should be targeted for an investigation immediately.

10.
Why can't they start counting the results and releasing them early too?

11. Vashon Repub, if your house is pictured on the Stranger's site as having a McCain sign, then you should probably expect your ballot has a 'signature issue'.

Actually, in this county, I just call the elections dept and ask if they accepted my ballot. Give them a few days after you mailed it, and they should be able to tell you.
