What are these political connections of which you speak?

From the P-I's coverage of today's judicially sponsored farce:

There are connections between the lawsuit and Gregoire's political allies.

Fuse Washington, a nonprofit group acting as press agent for the plaintiffs, recently received a $35,000 political action committee donation from Evergreen Progress, the major pro-Gregoire independent spending group.

Evergreen Progress, in turn, is headed by a Gregoire donor, Rick Desimone, and bankrolled mostly by the national Democratic Governors Association and labor unions. The group has spent more than $6 million to support Gregoire and oppose Rossi.

Appropriate response from understandably appalled Rossi supporters: get to work.

3. This lawsuit was Utter(robert)stupidity and not conducted in good Faith(ireland). Gregoires paid shills should be ashamed of themselves for conducting this circus solely for political purposes.

6. Well this little drama has played out and you have two groups. The first are the Gregoire supportres who don't undersetand the law or the lawsuit. They don't understand that under the law, a canadate is a canadate when they "declare", They are not a canadate if they are only thinking about it. Hypotheticals don't matter, and if you follow the Gregoire supporters logic to a conclusion, it would be that Rossi was prohibited from talking to anyone about general fundraising, with any group, at any period of time between 2000 and the present.

I read the deposition transcript (which, in my profession, I have read 100's of dep. transcripts) and I found the plaintiff's questions to be contrived, beyond the scope, staged to generate a specific answer and generally an embarrassment to real attorneys everywhere. Rossi answered the question and yes his irritation showed but he was a lot more polite than I would have been in similar circumstances. Rossi's attorney did a good job at protecting his client against questions that were beyond the scope of the deposition and at the same time got a few digs in against the plaintiffs.

Although there may have been some "sound bites" offered by the plaintiffs after the depositon, I did not see any on my local news and it tells me that the plaintiffs came up with a big fact goose egg.

On another note, I have 5 family members (who lean unfortunately to the dark side) who voted for Kerry and Gregoire in the last election. All of them have switched their vote to Rossi this time around. (I wish I could say they voted for McCain as well but at least they got the governors race right)

7. Surprised Rossi's attorneys didn't make a complete mockery of the transcripts. I have been deposed several times and one is most noteworthy. The two attorneys flat-out hated each other. I was being deposed by one of the bad guys and my attorney just wouldn't cut the guy any slack. I would be completely surprised to read the transcripts of the constant bickering between the two. If the stakes weren't so high, I may have laughed. They were calling each other names as a matter of fact as the one attorney wanted to know what the "Surprise" expert- me- was going to say. He didn't get it.

Sounds like Rossi's attorney took this deposition seriously and tried to make it sound legiitimate.

8. Hey, Hinton. What have got against Kimchi? Don't you dare mix rotten chap like Gregoire and a good ethnic food like Kimchi!

9. DopioLover, I apologize. You're absolutely right.

My bad.

I do, however, miss the dulcet tones of dumbo, ten cents, Pacto, factless, comrade ivan and the like. You'd think they'd be thrilled by this mockery of "justice," and yet, we don't seem to be hearing from them on this.

Odd, that.

10. This is a little off subject but Clark's posts made me think of it. It was announced on the news this morning that people in Snohomish and I believe Skagit counties "could have been" confused by get-out-the-vote phone calls and threw away their mail ballots to instead go to the polls to vote. Since there are no polls in those counties (mail only) the officials of these countries have said that anybody who inadvertently threw their ballot away can come in and get another one.

Talk about a situation ripe for voter fraud. This does not smell good.

11. It seems clear the blatant political nature of this "lawsuit" has backfired if even the PI is essentially conceding it's political.

12. I was impressed with how Rossi's lawyer was keen to get on the record that the two plaintiff's lawyers were angry and flustered by objecting to them staring him down and yelling at him.

I actually wish there were some video cameras in there now because it sounds like it would have come off as brownshirts bullying Dino in a show trial.

13. It seems to me that the leftists always seem to overstep when they are on the cusp of winning. Obama has done it with Joe the Plumber, Biden has spilled the beans a couple of times and Gregoire with this suit has done it. It may have killed her chance and I sure hope so but unplugged (from viable information sources) voters is a real problem.

Why do they overstep? Arrogance, plain and simple.

14. Well it will be interesting to see how this plays with the voting public. On the one hand you have Rossi looking like the victim who was trying to play fair and got sucker punched.
On the other hand, you have Gregoire getting down in the gutter and slugging it out like a junk yard dog.
Which will play better with those swing voters? Who knows? Opinion makers are always saying voters don't like this kind of BS. But then you watch the polls when things get personal and they always seem to favor the attacker, justified or not.
I think Rossi should have known Gregoire would pull out all the stops and maybe should have had a few tricks up his own sleeve. But then again, taking the high road means staying out of the muck. Let's hope people respect that.
