Tonight...

...I ran the table in the Jeopardy! category on "Economics."

Can I claim a degree on the subject now if I run for Congress...or do I have to stay at a Holiday Inn Express first?

1. I don't know, Eric. Do you have a university diploma with the word "Economics" written on it?

2. You're not quite there yet Eric. If you stayed in a Holiday Inn Express, and ran the table in Jeopardy on the topic economics while sitting somewhere within at least 1 mile of Harvard, then you are an economics major for sure.

It's just a matter of geography. For example, if you are the Governor of Alaska, you are not qualified to do much of anything, except go shopping.

3. If it was the first round you only get to claim a minor. If it was the second round, go ahead and claim a BS degree, file for office, because you SIR are headed for WASHINGTON!!!

4. Yes we expect nothing less of you Eric..., but how did darcy do??? Or was she too busy making excuses and getting a goldy whine revved up?

5. Let's get real here, the only thing Darcy Burner knows about Adam Smith
is that he's a fellow Democrat that represents the 9th district of our state.

6. No, you need a computer science major as well... So do you know what a pointer is, and what a reference is?

If you can answer those, then you're qualified to be a Slavery Party Economics candidate for Congress!

7. I guess the 15 years she has spent building on her Economic degree includes her current 5 year run of being unemployed. In all fairness though, if you and your Husband are already retired from Microsoft, your view of Economic Policy is not probably not the same as the average working person.

8. Come on Eric, the truth is you already spent a night at a Holiday Inn Express. This is why you could run the table. We all know the truth.

Now, maybe John McCain could spend a night there so he could start "getting" it about the economy. Also, maybe Bush should spend a few nights there and wise up to keep his mouth shut. Almost everytime he holds a morning news conference, the stock market goes down on that day. I loved Will Ferrell last night on SNL making reference to this (i.e., why he was holding a news briefing at night). Will Ferrell also had it right on that Bush as probably has (informally) declared a no-bummer zone. It would get very depressing, otherwise, in the White House.

Now, the only question, Eric, how good are you at Latin Literature, or some of the other obscure topics on Jeopardy?

9. I have a degree in Economics (UW, class of '88). I must say that I sympathize with Darcy Burner. Like many with Computer Science degrees, she wants to run with the cool crowd. Lying, though, is not the way to go about it. Instead, she should seek an honorary degree, say, from Evergreen. Surely they must have some sort of Marxist Econ program.

10. Yes, the stay at the Holiday Inn is obligatory.

Isn't it funny that finally now that we are in crunch time the Wall Street people are coming out with their version of Obama Mania (i.e. complete mania whenever the new polls show McCain gaining).

It was Maria Bartiroma (sorry spelling freaks, but this is the best you are getting from me) who trolled the pits about a 1/2 hour before closing when the latest polls came out favoring sanity and a McCain victory possibility. In the pits, she heard from several traders that it was the good polls showing McCain gaining that caused the 300 point increase at the end of trading.

Doesn't fit your foolishness, tc, nor your beloved Will Ferrell.

11. Swatter.

You hit it on the head. Wallstreet is scared of More gov/Obama programs. Money will dry up fast.

Sorry neither party is talking about what really caused the this mess and the best way to fix it. Yes libs.. it was the government who caused it.

12. And before tc can do his famous comeback, yes, my comment acknowledges the huge drop today in the opening of the stock market. The US futures were stopped due to the huge drop in the Asian markets last night. This is a carryover.

Until we can get McCain, I expect a whole lot of ups and downs.

In the previous post, I was referring to 'actual' comments reported by Maria B.

And Medic, when you agreed, I thought you were referring to the need for Eric to stay at the Holiday Inn Express before declaring himself an econ major, even if he ran the board on Jeopardy.

13. Swatter,
I am not sure of what foolishness you speak of. The fact of the matter is, if you look back over the past month, most of the time, when Bush gives a morning press conference the market goes down. This isn't the only time the market goes down (it also has went down on days Bush hasn't talked). What I can't remember, however, is very many, if any days, in which Bush gave his morning prep-talk, where the market actually responded positively on those days. That is the point of the general public trend (i.e., when Bush trys to "raw-raw" the market, it goes the opposite direction).

14. Only if you are a bitter nutrooter clinign to your BDS, then you can claim you have an economics degree.

15. I'd like to hear from someone who actually received a degree in Economics from Harvard University and ask them what they think of a CompSci graduate that took a handful of economics courses claiming that she got a degree in Economics.

Look this is easy to resolve. Just look at her diploma for the word "Economics". If it's not there, then she doesn't have a degree in the field.

16. Notice how "tc" comes in here to deliver a snarky insult to Eric. Vile, just vile.

17. Crusader,
Snarky insult????????????
