The Gregoire team's attempt to stifle the opposition has made Friday's Wall Street Journal: "Scoundrel Country - II --Further evidence campaign-finance 'reformers' muzzle free speech".
![]() | If you're wondering why business groups tend to stay neutral in elections these days, take a look at the Building Industry Association of Washington. That trade group's liberal opponents continue to harass it with lawsuits because it won't stay mute. The bottom line: At the very least [Mrs. Gregoire et al] hope to turn this suit into a media circus, forcing Mr. Rossi to submit to a deposition and suggesting malfeasance in the heat of a close election.Pathetic, but what else would you expect from a senescent administration that is desperate to cling to power and doesn't have a positive record to run on? |
Some pioneering trailblazer huh?
Posted by: Rick D. on October 9, 2008 10:03 PMWell, BillL, since you're a essentially salesman for whatever hysterical enviromental organization you're working for at the moment, I guess you would know.
Posted by: Stefan Sharkansky on October 9, 2008 10:31 PMBTW, I thought the legislature has something to do with budgets...
The fact that too many people in our state believe Rossi's lies is sad.
Stefan, did you see the CNN shots of the angry folks at McKeating5's rally today? They are real mad that America's voters won't let Insane McCain finish off what's left of our country. Hopping mad that all that negative campaigning is not only sinking McFossil and Moose Girl, but the GOP may lose 10 Senate seats to boot. I would be mad too if all I wanted to do was continue trickle down no oversight no regulation government for another 4 years.....
I would feel sorry for McCain if he wasn't so dangerous. Imagine him running our country as poorly as he has ran his campaign. He would make even Bush look good....
Posted by: All Facts Support My Positions on October 9, 2008 11:00 PMChrissy is saving the "GOP" issue for after the second recount when she'll need to throw out the military vote. Just watch what takes place.
Posted by: Independent Voter on October 10, 2008 06:15 AMI heard on Dori Monsons show someone ask how you would go about a peaceful revolution. I don't know, I don't think it is possible these days. I do have a pretty good idea how a violent one could come about. When a person has nothing left to lose they may be inclined to perform acts of violence on those they think are the ones who put them in this position.
When the state keeps taking our money till we have none left to pay our bills, and we find out how the state used that money, and it was in outrageous fashion, then because we can't pay our mortgages and we lose our houses and are made to be homeless because of the incompassionate greed of the politicians that are enabled by people like All Facts Support My Positions I can see how some of us might take up arms and water the tree of liberty.
If McCain wins I wont feel so much better really since his forte' has been to 'reach across the aisle' even though the left wont do the same. It just may slow things down a tad.
In the words of Ian Anderson "I see a dark spot on the horizon".
Posted by: REBEL on October 10, 2008 06:59 AMHere's hoping the voters stomp her fingers.
Posted by: Saltherring on October 10, 2008 07:23 AMYou are a typical liberal. You only see what you want to see. I am not advocating armed rebellion you dufus. I am advocating survival, if your sorry excuse for a brain could comprehend what you are reading you would see that. When the weight of government becomes too oppressive, there are historical examples of what happens. Since your ilk is more intent on rewriting history rather than studying what happened I don't expect your semi-literate self to understand though.
Posted by: REBEL on October 10, 2008 08:05 AMHey, your side - including Carville and others - are promising riots if Obama loses. And your side actually has the history and record of violence in these cases.
I'd say self-defense is a concern for conservatives. My truck bed had been keyed, marked with Sharpies, and spray-painted when I had my McCain stickers INSIDE the canopy windows. At least it's a kickaround truck.
Seems you Slavers cannot tolerate free speech or understand that sometimes you don't get what you want, so you go on a rampage and destroy and torch stuff.
Against extremists like that, I don't blame Rebel for stocking up. In fact, Rebel, get your CCW permit, too. And the Kel-Tec PF9 is a VERY compact 9mm firearm well suited to CCW as it is thin, short, and lightweight. Good price too, and in stock at several dealers in the Puget Sound.

Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on October 10, 2008 08:17 AMI hear ya. That is a rather flattering depiction of the governor. I always picture her like this
Posted by: blindman on October 10, 2008 08:39 AMA Rossi bumper sticker is an invitation for having your car keyed where I live. I have also seen people tearing off Rossy bumper stickers of other people's cars.
And you wonder why I believe the left is projecting when they accuse the right of intolerance. Sure, there are intolerant religious types who call themselves Republican, but the main part of the party--the people who value private property rights, want to defend the Consitution and preserve the establishment clause--usually stand up against them and cancel them out in policy debates.
Besides, I don't see those religious type Republicans out there spray painting Gregoire signs or vandalizing the cars of obviously liberal people. That is the main difference between the right and left. The right tend to respect private property and other people and the left consider it their duty to punish people who disagree with them. I guess if you're a collectivist, there is no sanctity in private property, so you probably have no conscience when it comes to vandalism and harassment.
Posted by: blindman on October 10, 2008 08:53 AMCongratulations, you have spotted how the Democrat Party has rigged the system.
There is a massive conflict of interest for the Democrat Party Governor and Legislature. First the governor gets the legislature to pass a law making the public sector union negotiation minutes a state secret beyond public disclosure requests. Then she gets the legislature to pass a bill forcing all state employees into the SEIU. She was bragging that she forced 55,000 people into the unions. The unions then use government force (labor laws) to take money from their members against their will and spends it re-electing the Governor.
Don't forget that the cast against the WEA for spending union dues on political campaigns against the will of union members went to the Supreme Court and the WEA LOST! What did the Governor and Legislature do? They passed an "emergency" bill explicitly making it legal for unions to do that. They did an end run around the SCOTUS and they made the bill an "emergency" bill so that it could never be overturned by a citizen's initiative.
That is about as corrupt as you can get. The governor and legislature changed the laws to cover up their blatant quid-pro-quo bargaining with the SEIU. Then they changed the law to force people into the union so that they could take the people's money for their re-election campaign. I call it the Gregoire Re-Election Tax.
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that they just recently changed the union dues from $50/month to $75/month so that they'd have more money to spend on the campaign.
Posted by: blindman on October 10, 2008 09:09 AMYou can't? Too ignorant?
Or just too much of a fricking hypocrite?
McCain at his worst is light years ahead of that neo-communist you support.
And dumbo... who knows "sick" better than you? And can YOU provide the links to your many equally outraged posts aimed at the "I'm moving out of the country" Hollywood scum from the elections of 00 and 04?
What's that? There aren't any?
Save your bogus condemnation for your fellow leftist lemmings, hypocrite.
Posted by: Hinton on October 10, 2008 09:09 AMHinton, I usually don't agree with you 100% but you're right about the campaign finance reporting differences between McCain and Obama.
From the Oct. 6th WSJ Political Diary:
John McCain's campaign has identified its entire donor base, including those contributing under $200, whose names are not required to be legally disclosed. But the Obama campaign hasn't identified individual donors for nearly half of the $427 million his campaign has raised. Small donations account for much more of Mr. Obama's donation take than most candidates. That concerns the Republican National Committee, which cites Federal Election Commission records that show some 11,500 Obama donors trigger one or more warning flags that they may be foreign nationals -- including use of a foreign bank account or foreign address.
It's too bad the FEC takes so long to investigate these things. Obama is clearly taking advantage of that.
Posted by: blindman on October 10, 2008 09:18 AMIt always amazes me that so few liberals object to the chipping away at freedom of speech. There must be a few true believers still left that take free speech seriously--it used to be a lib sine qua non. The ACLU opposed McCain-Feingold but few Dems seem to follow along.
There has been plenty of erosion in recent years. We've had banning of tobacco ads, hints of reinstatement of the fairness doctrine, a state ban on writing about online gambling that resulted in several publishers pulling out of WA, the lawsuit against KVI over I912, threats from the Senate against Limbaugh's syndicator, the efforts by Bill Clinton to quash the movie 'The Path to 9/11,' and other examples.
A story about Sarah Palin banning books (which turned out to be a hoax) was discussed far & wide, but real threats to free speech are utterly ignored by the left and MSM.
Posted by: russell garrard on October 10, 2008 09:21 AMYou could help put an end to Gregoire's campaign. You just don't want to do it because the corruption of your buddy McKenna would also be exposed. You have the proof of het corruption; and that of the entire WA SC. Why don't you use it?

Posted by: Saltherring on October 10, 2008 10:50 AMJeff Sullivan isn't going to do anything about vote fraud. Just like McKay, he is going to claim he has no jurisdiction.
And McKenna? He is worthless in this area. Last election, he claimed he did not have jurisdiction to investigate of prosecute vote fraud. He claimed that only a county prosecutor could, or at the request of the governor. That was a lie.
he url that proves McKenna has the legal authority to prosecute any crimes in thsi state:
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=10.01.190
McKenna is an ally of Gregoire, and don't forget that. He saw nothing wrong with the Indian tribe quid pro quo with Gregoire. You think he will investigate vote fraud this time when he knew he coud have investigated it last time?

The Democrats are doing the same thing to Senator Stevens in Alaska. His TRIAL is keeping him off the campaign TRAIL. note how similar the two words are? Also note how insignificant $250,000 in home improvements seem now in light of the $100 million looting of Fannie/Freddie by Franklin Raines.
And the media doesn't even ask...
