Worth Study
This Associated Press article
on potential gains for the Democrats in the Oregon legislature. The article's central argument is
this: If the Democrats gain a few seats in the Oregon House, they will have a big enough majority
to raise taxes.
(I am not quoting anything from the article because the Associated Press is getting tough on
bloggers. They really don't want us to post excerpts from their articles, considering how much they charge for
that privilege. I'll be linking to the AP a lot less in the future if they continue this policy.
I am not a lawyer, so I won't try to guess whether their policy violates "fair use" principles.)
Some observations:
- Oregon Democrats will raise taxes if they can. (And in that they are like Democrats in
most of the country.)
- The anonymous reporter who wrote this story thinks that raising taxes is a good idea. (I infer
that from the tone, and the fact that he or she does not give any reasons against raising taxes.
Nor, interestingly enough, any reasons for raising taxes. It is as if the reporter thinks that
raising taxes is good in itself.)
- The surge in support for Obama in some areas may result in higher state and local taxes.
(The reporter attributes gains in Democratic registration to enthusiasm for Obama.)
- Unlike the reporter, Democratic candidates are not being open about their desires to raise
taxes. But they are keeping the option open.
Oregon and Washington are similar states in many ways. Both are — compared to the rest of
the country — socially liberal and prone to tax revolts. It is no accident that in this state
Governor Gregoire, who raised taxes, is talking so much about social issues — and so little about
what those extra taxes bought — if anything.

1. Time for a class action suit against the AP to collect on them quoting other sources w/out permission or payment.
2. Somehow, I don't think the AP will be bothering Goldy when he quotes excerpts of an article designed to snark Rossi, Palin, McCain, etc.
Jim, it's simple. As long as it hurts conservatives or helps Liberals, it's fair use.
3. On a side note, all of the election fraud techniques found in WA2004 have been refined to an even higher degree in Oregon, only nobody can stop it there... either...
Multnomah County has a suspiciously large number of ballots deemed invalid due to "signature mismatch"
There needs to be a Stephan there.
Oregon has a few distinct populations: Volvo driving former hippies who moved from N Cal. in the 70's, Dust bowl refugees from Oklahoma who got turned away from S.Cal in the 30's, standard NW Metrosexual recent migrants. Think Seattle in 1979.
Similar to WA, OR is entirely conservative except for PDX, Salem, Eugene, and a few coastal counties. Oh and all the young immigrants from Vermont who dont drive cars and are "community activists" for a"living."
Just a few of the similarities.

6. The ASSociated Press has been one of the worst news agencies in the history of the US! They are famous for their bogus global warming pieces and they are clearly biased so far to the left that at one time they were defending MS/NBC. The problem for the AP is that with the decline of independent radio stations using their service and the continued downward spiral of the nation’s newspapers they cannot afford to hire anyone and pay them very well. So they end up with cup reporters straight out of college with their degrees in socialism and Marxism. Right now their main competition is the United Press International that was recently purchased by FOX NEWS and so you may be seeing the final decline of the AP. I WISH THEM ALL THE WORSE! They deserve everything they get!
7. This bailout bill is nothing short of a coup de tat by the left. Say goodbye to the USA and hello to some dictatorship, which conveniently has Barack Obama stepping in just in time....
