Programming Note

No live blogging of the Presidential debate tonight from this contributor.

Such posting is a serious effort in multi-tasking, which deprives the typer of being able to digest the visual and audio impact of the debate in full (beyond just the verbal content). Given the degree to which the demeanor and non-verbal actions of the candidates at Presidential debates have influenced viewers in past, I prefer to watch, take notes, then provide analysis afterward.

7:06 PM UPDATE: I've been spoiled by the feisty nature of the GOP primary debates, the tete-a-tetes between Obama & Clinton, and even the back and forth of Rossi v. Gregoire: This is boring by comparison.

1. I gave up watching. I wanted this to primarily focus on foreign policy after the first question, but ol' Jimmy seems intent on dicussing the bailout for most of the allotted time. I never have been a fan of Jim Lehrer and tonight just reconfirms that feeling. Until a bailout plan is passed, this whole episode is rather pointless.

Good luck if you are going to sit through this whole thing, including the "insightful" commentary at the end. (Although for supposedly being an internet "novice", I did think it was pretty sharp of McCain to tell people to check out Obama's actual record, specifically referring to the website, Citizens Against Government Waste.)

2. Yeah, I agree, I found it pretty difficult to stomach. Granted, I had to listen on XM instead of watching. I think you get a different experience, not seeing the body language and such.

Jim definitely would not be my pick to run these. He seems to want to take control (I got tired of "let's see if I can ask this a different way" -- how about asking something ELSE?).

I didn't care for the "free form" format, either. Jim kept wanting them to talk to each other, but that would be awkward for anyone to do. Obama seemed to dominate the "free" time, as well, which I didn't think came across too well for McCain.

Sigh. How many more of these are planned?

3. Bwa-Ha-Ha-Ha!!!!
What a stammering PUTZ!
Obama is biggest empty suit in History. The guy is incapable of directly anwering a question.
Take heart. The REDS are losing.

4. I am listening online while doing stuff online. Its a bit of a snoozer.

Jim Lehrer is a poor moderator.

5. How many times during this debate Obama has said, "Let me correct the record." GAWD. Reminds me of the movie The Ten Commandmends with Yul Brynner's line... So shall it be said, so shall it be written.

6. Obama thinks his pausing and stuttering makes
him so statesmenlike (is that a word?) I had
to turn it off. God help us.
