Post your thoughts on who McCain should choose, and who you think he will choose. I won't give my prediction because I don't have one.

Posted by: GS on August 29, 2008 05:40 AMYes, I agree that Palin would be good. However, my two favorites are both darkhorses who actually would bring something to the ticket in terms of firing up the conservatives in the GOP (as would Palin, I admit). One, Peter Fitzgerald, was a US Senator from Illinois, 1999-2005. Solidly conservative, didn't take any crap from anyone, relatively young (late 40s), went after corruption in Illinois politics whether it be Republican or Democrat. Would help in the Midwest/Great Lakes region and would freak the Obama campaign out, as they couldn't run against his experience...since he served in the Senate twice as long as Obama has up to now!!!
Two, Pat Toomey, three-term Congressman from Pennsylvania who almost beat Arlen Specter in the 2004 GOP Senate primary and is now the President of the Club For Growth. Would fire up the conservative base and would likely steal Pennsylvania from Obama without all the national downsides that Tom Ridge would have doing that same thing.
Okay, those are my two favorites, though if it's Palin I'm good with that. We'll see any minute now, I guess !!!
LOL, Duffie.
Buddy ya kill me.
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 29, 2008 07:08 AMArizona/Alaska brings nothing to the table politically other than the novelty of a female on the ticket. It may turn out to be a brilliant move reaching out to Hillary's disenfranchised voters (yes, you Duffman), but I'm not nearly as excited about this ticket as most appear to be.
I'm sure someone in the other "57 states" was equally as qualified and geographically suited for this slot. It will be interesting to see her debate Biden, but Romney would have been a better choice.
Posted by: Rick D. on August 29, 2008 11:05 AMSo hmmm:
Younger
Attractive
Intelligent
Relatively inexperienced
Good Orator
All of those could be said of either Palin or Obama.
Now you add:
Actual governing experience
Tough on pork (proven)
Willing to stand ground
Etc Etc
Obama has got to be worried.
