Open Thread On McCain's VP Pick

Post your thoughts on who McCain should choose, and who you think he will choose.  I won't give my prediction because I don't have one.

1. Go Sarah Palin.

The Big Tent just got a whole lot bigger!

2. I agree...SARAH PALIN [that's who I'd pick]. :)

3. Duff, he should actually say that he vetted Hillary but went with Sarah

4. I posted this earlier this morning on the "McCain VP" thread that was up a few days ago, but since that thread had mostly died down by then, I'll repost it here.

Yes, I agree that Palin would be good. However, my two favorites are both darkhorses who actually would bring something to the ticket in terms of firing up the conservatives in the GOP (as would Palin, I admit). One, Peter Fitzgerald, was a US Senator from Illinois, 1999-2005. Solidly conservative, didn't take any crap from anyone, relatively young (late 40s), went after corruption in Illinois politics whether it be Republican or Democrat. Would help in the Midwest/Great Lakes region and would freak the Obama campaign out, as they couldn't run against his experience...since he served in the Senate twice as long as Obama has up to now!!!

Two, Pat Toomey, three-term Congressman from Pennsylvania who almost beat Arlen Specter in the 2004 GOP Senate primary and is now the President of the Club For Growth. Would fire up the conservative base and would likely steal Pennsylvania from Obama without all the national downsides that Tom Ridge would have doing that same thing.

Okay, those are my two favorites, though if it's Palin I'm good with that. We'll see any minute now, I guess !!!

6. Sounds like it's Palin. Is Maverick now willing to drill in ANWAR? Another good pick would have been Governor Matt Blunt.

7. Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. I'm not sure how adding the Governor of a province in Canada is going to help out this ticket. /sarcasm

Arizona/Alaska brings nothing to the table politically other than the novelty of a female on the ticket. It may turn out to be a brilliant move reaching out to Hillary's disenfranchised voters (yes, you Duffman), but I'm not nearly as excited about this ticket as most appear to be.

I'm sure someone in the other "57 states" was equally as qualified and geographically suited for this slot. It will be interesting to see her debate Biden, but Romney would have been a better choice.

9. Great pick. Throws the whole experience thing back in Obama's face. At least she is a Governor (What did he do?). Potential to temper Biden's known reputation as fierce/pitbul style debater.

So hmmm:
Younger
Attractive
Intelligent
Relatively inexperienced
Good Orator
All of those could be said of either Palin or Obama.

Now you add:
Actual governing experience
Tough on pork (proven)
Willing to stand ground
Etc Etc

Obama has got to be worried.

10.
Palin was a brilliant choice. No one expected this, and she really is perfect. If anything she is even more a maverick than McCain, and she has the stones for this, too. Men in Alaska are tough! You can't bash in the old boys network in Alaska without a pretty big pair.

11. She would have been my pick also. I believe she brings everything needed to defeat the Evil Empire.

12. I just hope she isn't a screw-up.
