...but which ever volunteer was responsible for bringing out the the Obama $3 bills has the political brain of a small rodent.
Fantastically stupid.
Snohomish County GOP Chair Geri Modrell was right to quickly nip that in the bud and apologize.
Posted by Eric Earling at August 28, 2008 08:19 AM | Email ThisWhile it may be hard for folks here to understand, SJ is NOT a Democrat. I have little respect fr either party. If I appear to some as a D, it is because the R party since Nixon seems to be perpetually mired in a sticky mud that has little to do with conservative economics or politics. I certainly will vote for the better candidate and hope that the R party can rebuild itself in the post Bush era.
I am an independent liberal.
I voted for Dino last time and am very unimpressed with Gergoire. In fact I voted against her last time for her dirty campaigning and lack of ideas. This time I am irate and, while Gregoire still disappoints, will vote with anger against Rossi.
Why? I put two "e" words at the top of my list of priorities . I will not vote for an irrational candidate or a racist or anyone who supports those folks. Rossi's support of Guzzo was initially amusing, now it is frightening. His tolerance of the Clark County racist was enough to drive me to Gregoire. His tolerance of the three dollar bill is the last straw.
"Earth calling the GOP" Racism is wrong. It must end and can not be tolerated in either party;. Dems have the problem too, but theirs is a residual racism left after the battle has largely been won. Bill Clinton may have an issue with do-gooder, condescending liberalism but that blindness doe snot compare with Rossi's toleration of racism in the R party.
Obama as a Muslim and Obama on the three $ bill are grim reminders of how bsd things were in my childhood.
Rossi and his party should be ashamed.

The bill had no place in a GOP booth.
Really, geee just how many times has the DEM's/Libs use racisms to push their ideas.
They drop it (race) all the time.
Might I remind you of a black REP that had Oreo cookies thrown at him.
Yeah Seattlejew, tell the rep about racisms.
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 28, 2008 09:18 AMSorry, but I have to disagree with the post... and the coverage. Clearly, Eric has never been to, say, a state democrat convention to see what THEY sell. And Eric's efforts to spread the word on this accomplish..... what, exactly? Burnishment of his bright, shiny effort to become the moral compass of the party?
Spare me.
Was this phony bill (accurate in at least some respects) the smartest idea? Maybe not. Was it the worst idea in the history of politics? No, Oh Drama's Mt. Olympus set and fake presidential seal grab that distinction, hands down. Was it worth all the coverage by the in-the-tank MSM? Of course not. Has it been blown completely out of proportion? No question.
Was it worth the waste of ASCII and the tut-tut post by Eric?
Please.
Posted by: Hinton on August 28, 2008 09:22 AMEither you were just looking for an excuse not to vote for Rossi, or he never had your vote in the first place. Your "outrage" is irrational and misplaced.
Posted by: Patrick on August 28, 2008 09:28 AMBesides, it doesn't work. Don't you know he doesn't look like the other presidents on the real bills?
Posted by: swatter on August 28, 2008 09:32 AMHAHAHAHA, sweet!
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 28, 2008 09:43 AMFour years ago, I was impressed by Rossi's speeches. A lot of Gregpoire's mud turned out, when I looked into Rossi's record, to be just that mud.
Then came his association with Guzzo and the DI folks. Like it or not, to a scientist like myself the DI is as blasphemous as a satan worshiper might seem to a conservative Christian. I thohgt that Rossi was, perhaps, simply brown nosing a vote he needs and this tie wpu;d go awayt as the reality of state wide vore neared. I was wrong. I can only conclude that Rossi is one of "them."
The next event was the Clark County website issue. Clearly there is a perosn on the Party staff down there who is a bigot. I called Don's cmapign and urged them to get Dino out in front by demanding this person be publically disowned. AFIK, this seed of Hitler is still there.
Nows comes this digusitng 3 dollar bill. And where is Dino's outrage?
Sorry folks, I would love to have a Reprican candidate to over turn Sunny Jim or run for Seattle mayor, I would vote for a Dan Evans candidate. The R part seems to me to have left the shared tent that separates America from its lonie fingees.
Posted by: Sesttlejew on August 28, 2008 09:49 AMWhere was your DEM outrage for throwing Oreo cookies and a black REP. Where is your outrage when the pictures of RICE came out.
You sure are picky when it comes to outrage.
The difference is the occasional uncontrollable volunteer with the GOP versus a corporate leadership decision to be racist by the Democratic party.
If you think the Democratic party isn't the most racist of the two parties, then you need to hang out with them more.
The GOP has had black presidential candidates and we've had female candidates for Congress, US Senate, etc. We NEVER experienced any bit of racism or sexism in any race I ever watched...and that's dating back a couple decades.
But we saw both racism and sexism running rampant in the Democrat primary between Hillary and Obama the last several months.
If you want to see the true party of racial tension, look to the Democrats.
Posted by: Chad Minnick on August 28, 2008 11:10 AM"nanogiveashits" is an awesome phrase. I'm going to start using that if you don't mind, Andy.
SJ,
How is what the left has done to Bush/Cheney/Dino, et. al any different (and therefore should be tolerated and allowed) than the $3 bill. Come on, do you even look at some of the stuff Horsey puts out?
Posted by: Chris on August 28, 2008 12:31 PMOh please. Too much ado about absolutely nothing.
Whiners, get a life...and a sense of humor.
Posted by: Ragnar Danneskjold on August 28, 2008 01:06 PMI was one of the first people to say that constantly referring to Obama's middle name was bigoted and racist, but how is putting his face on a fake 3 dollar bill so inappropriate? It's a little over the top, but it's not anything to get upset about. Nobody got upset about Pirate John McCain.

All: the $3 bill was not in the least bit racist. It was a dumb joke, and it was very stupid to have it at the fair, but it was not racist or bigoted in any way. Go to the web site. See the McCain version.
The Democrats crying foul are simply doing it just because they want to try to make it an issue. They excuse ACTUAL racism by the state Dems in the ad against Dino, but they think jokes are some evil thing.
Pretty pathetic, but having them at the fair left the door open to such pathetic tactics, and the media was, of course, willing participants in the feigned outrage.
The worst part of it is that the media and the Democrats are really claiming that Snohomish County fairgoers are complete hicks and morons, as if they will see this $3 bill and say, "Goollllllleeee, lookee here! I did'n know that Obama feller was one o' dem Mooslims! But since his picsure is on this here $3 bill I got me at th' fair, he must be!"
This is the view the Democrats and media have of Snohomish County voters. Last night Joe Biden said, "My mother's creed is the American creed: No one is better than you. You are everyone's equal, and everyone is equal to you." I guess that's unless you're from Snohomish County, in which case the Democrats believe you're a stupid redneck hick who will believe what you see on a $3 bill.
Posted by: pudge on August 28, 2008 07:32 PMRossi is the head of the Republican ticket. The "buck stops at his desk on an issue like this. He should take clear stands.
Posted by: SeattleJew on August 29, 2008 03:11 AM"Might I remind Sesttlejew that it was the Democrats who went directly and corporately after Rossi in their racist ad, complete with the Soprano's theme song, earlier this year? "
I agree and as i said was outraged at CG's campaign last go around. This issue is with Rossi. If Romney is running for Veep and some part of the dem party (NOT just an actvist selling stuff on her own) startsselling Romney dolls in mormon long johns, I would expect the Dems to take strong action.
Posted by: SeattleJew on August 29, 2008 03:18 AMHorsey is not a part of the demo party.
Posted by: SeattleJew on August 29, 2008 03:21 AMI would have little to compalin about if soemone printed $3 bills with Obama's face, bit I do see raism when that face in dressed in an arab headress just as I would if a demo partu released a $3 McCain with John McC dresded in KKK sheet.

Several weeks ago, I ran across a website call slick.com and saw the $3 Obama bills and ordered some. As you know, I was in charge of stocking the fair booth with campaign information about all the candidates, bumper stickers, buttons, and etc. When I was putting it all together in boxes, I threw in the bills.
As soon as I got a call yesterday telling me there was a complaint about them, I told the people at the Evergreen State Fair booth to immediately take them out.
I'm very, very sorry. I now recognize how offensive they are and I want to apologize to anyone who justifiably takes offense at them. I also want to say I'm sorry to you personally Geri and the other Executive Board Members for putting these bills without letting you know. I clearly wish I had because you would have helped me see how inappropriate they are. It was a really dumb thing to do. Campaigns sometimes get really heated and intense and that's no excuse but still I hope you will see it in your heart to forgive me.
