The good folks at Red County are at it again, this time with an interview with Dino Rossi.
I note in particular this line:
This election is not about me, it's not about Christine Gregoire; it's about changing the culture and direction of state government for a generation.
Readers of this blog know I've been saying that in a time where people are not thrilled with the leadership of the status quo, there is only one slot on the ballot where voters can find a demonstrable opportunity to change the Establishment in Olympia: the race for Governor.
Posted by Eric Earling at August 12, 2008 10:17 PM | Email ThisThis election for Gov presents the citizens of WA with a very distinct and rapidly diverging ''fork in the road'':
Gregoire would pile on more taxes, more regulation, more state employees, more ''favors'' for her big labor and gambling-industry constituents, and more big government in general; all to be paid for by we the taxpayers while she would continue to be the Governor for the government.
So don't just send in your primary ballot before the deadline marked for Dino Rossi: Check with all your friends and make sure THEY send in THEIR ballots too.... unless of course they are so misguided and uniformed as to be thinking of voting for Gregoire; then maybe a suggestion on some good escapist soap operas on TV can divert their attention.

Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 13, 2008 06:15 AMLOL, don't flatter yourself buddy.
I hear slikponny needs help. Maybe you should call him.
Following the Bill Clinton idea of marriage wasn't so smart.
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 13, 2008 06:55 AM1. The Republicans, at the national level, have performed so poorly that their brand is badly tarnished.
2. This is an extremely liberal state, just shy of Oregon is looniness.
3. King County Elections will always be there in the gubernatorial election, as a back-up, to insure a Democrat wins as governor.
As for me, I'll be voting for a third-party candidate for governor in November.
There's a Republiconvict for you. Bass Ackwards.
I hope Dino, and all his "Prefer GOP" friends (crooks) get drowned in the blue wave this November. Anyone that thinks Repupbliconvicts have anything to offer America besides corruption, and avoiding responsibility, belongs in an institution.
Dino's only chance is to try to fool the ignorant. That will only get you so far. There just aren't enough Archie Bunkers these days.
Posted by: All Facts Support My Positions on August 13, 2008 07:35 AMGo Dino Go!!!
Posted by: TruePatriot on August 13, 2008 07:37 AMAs for Rossi, I can see how you can see Obama-Rossi stickers out there. At least I know Rossi has done something in his life to deserve the governator position, but these platitudes and empty sayings don't cut it for me. They didn't in '04 either. However, I can't ever see myself voting for Gregoire and I won't throw my vote away again like I did in '92.
Posted by: swatter on August 13, 2008 07:38 AMYet I still like him. (-:
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 13, 2008 08:20 AMIt's Bush fault..
Know matter what it is. It's Bush fault.
You can never blame a dem. LOL
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 13, 2008 09:59 AMHow intellectual of you!
You manage to totally avoid all relevant issues & just spew away.
Try to explain this--
1) $8 BILLION of increased spending.
2) Ferry traffic disaster
3) $1.1 Billion committed on Alaska Way Viaduct WITHOUT A FRIGGIN" APPROVED PLAN!
4) Traffic is still a disaster.
5) $2.9 BILLION Deficit in upcoming biennium with Gregoire pooh-poohing it and no specific plan for spending cuts or tax increases (must do 1 or the other Factless)
6) State Retirement Fund underfunded by $5.1 BILLION @6/30/07...$38 Billion invested in Stock Market...Markets DOWN Approx 10% since 6/30/07.
Underfunding now closer to $7-8 BILLION and Gregoire creates some fantasy "Rainy-Day Fund" rather than put it toward an existing obligation.
The list goes on & on.
In the meantime, Factless and other Gregoire minions remain FACTLESS and can only resort to spewing nonsensical drivel rather than address real issues.
What a KLOWN!
Do you really think 50% of the voters are dumb enough not to hold Gregoire accountable for this fiscal TRAINWRECK?
Do you really think anti-Bush spew will be enough to get her re-elected?
Good luck with that FACTLESS.
What was Mr. Rossi's plan for dealing with the Ferry issue? Oh wait, he doesn't have one.
.$38 Billion invested in Stock Market...Markets DOWN Approx 10% since 6/30/07.
So investing in capitalism is good, but only if the stock market goes up. The Governor is to blame if the President and the GOP led Congress spend like no tomorrow and lead the country into a massive recession.
Gregoire creates some fantasy "Rainy-Day Fund" rather than put it toward an existing obligation.
So on one hand you want accountable spending and on the other you want the Govt. to blow all the revenue it receives rather than save money for real emergencies (like say Boeing repeats the 70's).
Do you even bother to think through your talking points before you post them? You should be really take the name Mr. Contraindication.
Even though your some what right about the GOP spending during their time, which pissed many of us off. You should check the huge incrrase in spending since the dems took over. Heck look at what Obama wants to if he becomes prez. You think the stock market has taken a hit now. Just wait until hunge taxes hit along with a even greater gov spending. I see you dem's learned nothing during Clintons first two years of tax & spend.
So bud, CK your talking points too!
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 13, 2008 01:32 PMThe question is Will Washingtonian voters re-elect a 39-year government bureaucrat with ZERO real world business experience to fix the huge fiscal trainwreck SHE created?
All you can do is ask what Rossi would do??
Gregoire created this massive budget trainwreck by overspending to payoff her supporters. She calls it an "investment". I call it reckless spending.
And the PHONEY-BALONEY Rainy Day Fund is akin to allowing your credit card debt to pile up while you put your paycheck in the bank....and claim you are doing good.
It's a smoke-and-mirrors fantasty that only diehard D's could possibly believe.
Gregoire was the Governor during the Ferry Debacle. She CHOSE to ignore it until it was a crisis. Your answer of "where was Mr. Rossi's plan" is ludicrous. Gregoire was the Governor you KLOWN. Did she need his help to solve the problem???
All you have Mr. Excusemaker is desperate efforts to deflect, marginalize & minimize Gregoire's actions and their consequences by blaming Bush or asking what Rossi would do.
Gregoire is the Governor.
She has no plan and is in denial we have a problem.
Will she cut expenses? If so, which ones.
Will she raise taxes? If so, which ones & how much?
Those are the only 2 options.
Are you realistic enough to recognize that?
Gregoire is oviously running out of excuses, huh Mr. Excusemaker!
Let us not forget it was the GOP removal or blatant turn-the-other-way attitude towards check-and-balance regulation that got us into this housing/credit mess in the first place. Then of course we have the taxpayer funded Bush bailout plan which looks even more irresponsible than Gregoire's viaduct plan.
Lesson of the Bush years:
Everyone makes a quick buck and lets you act irresponsibly, when the party is over the Govt. will step in and clean up the mess you made (aka well screw the taxpayers while you get a slap on the wrist).
There you go again.
Gregoire is running against Dino Rossi..not Bush.
Your "guilt by association" innuendo means Gregoire must be a cheat & liar like her pal John Edwards. Or like Kwame Kilpatrick, mayor of Detroit. Right?
Oh and as Gregoire's AWV Plan.........
WHAT PLAN??????????????
The problem is she is committing money , $1.1 BILLION, WITHOUT A STINKING PLAN!!!!!!
Gregoire is reckless and incompetent.
Not a good combo.
But keep making excuses Mr. Excusemaker.
This is going to be a mighty tight election.
Really? You sure about that? Because I seem to remember a huge crash in the market - especially the NASDAQ - starting in early 2000. Last time I checked, Bush didn't take office until 2001. Ooops.
Everyone makes a quick buck and lets you act irresponsibly, when the party is over the Govt. will step in and clean up the mess you made
You couldn't have described the Clinton years any better if you tried.
Unless you forgot about the tech bubble, the dot com boom and bust, Enron, Worldcom ... things that went on during the Clinton years and were prosecuted under Bush.
This isn't ancient history here. Most of us remember it quite well ... at least those of us without partisan blinders on.
And let's not forget about the Democrat led congress and their approval rating...
http://www.gallup.com/poll/108856/Congressional-Approval-Hits-RecordLow-14.aspx
Posted by: David on August 13, 2008 05:01 PMI have to fear in the Democrat-controlled congress with a certain Democrat as President, it will be payback big time thanks to the progressive wing of the Democrat Party due to the misgivings of the Bush Administration. Only one big problem, we the people will suffer for it economically and legislatively get screwed. Priorities are screwed up on both sides. With that said, the best situation would be a balance of power in DC and also in this state with a new Governor.
Democrat control of congress in 2006 was the right thing for a balance of power - the Republicans deserved to be booted out for what they had in the previous 6 years, but the Dems may have held Bush's feet to the fire more, but otherwise they have been just as bad as when the Republicans were in control and in some ways worse - because Democrats appear to be the party of Special interest groups. Now, the incumbents should be booted out of Congress for the less than 20% approval rating they have.
Maybe you should look at the real numbers, instead of the ones you just pulled out of your tail. Clintons first two years the econ was flat. It didn't take off until the REP took over.
They forced Clinton to cut taxes and the rest is history. Not including all the defence cuts that Clinton & gore push thru that really hurt our milltary.
But you dem's enjoy dong that, so I'm not surprised.
I admit I have had personal problems with Dino Rossi. A long time ago, I worked with my employer to do a 1031 exchange for apartments where the occupants had been decived. Rossi's nomination was a big factor in my changing my registration.
I really want to know how that Rossi has matured and is not the glib salesman of questionable honesty I worked with. I wish he would answer questions about what he belives and what he would support.
I'm afraid he is saying something different to each group he speaks to. It would make it easier to accept him if he advertised his positions.
