Open Post For Endorsements

But endorsements only, please.  If possible, add a link to your candidate's site, since that will help make the post useful for voters who are looking for information before they vote in the primary on the 19th.

For example:  I plan to vote to re-elect Attorney General Rob McKenna.  For me, this choice is easy.  McKenna is a fine man, who has done a fine job as attorney general.  Above all, he has the integrity that office requires.  Most of you will want to say more than that about your favored candidate or candidates, but that should give you an idea.

(Note to commenters:  I am serious about limiting this to endorsements only.  Please don't put up any replies to other commenters, since I will just remove them, which will waste your time, and mine.  I do plan to put up at least one open post before the primary where you can say whatever you like, positive or negative, about the candidates.

Candidates are welcome to put up links to their own sites; in fact, I would be delighted if they did so.)

1. Les Ponamarchuk for Superior Court Judge. I've had him in a rather unpleasant divorce/ child custody case, and he was consistently fair and sane, which made him a rare exception in that system.

3. Michael Delavar for Congress, 3rd Dist.

Delvar has a grass roots campaign built on conservative values in Western WA that has quite a following. He leads in donations from individual donors out of all candidates (both parties). He also offers a fresh change to the (D) Brian Baird.

Check out the website for videos on his positions on various issues.

4. Agree with the endorsement of Rob McKenna. He was one of the few (or the only) guy on the Sound Transit Board who wasn't hooked in with the public bamboozlement of ST's phony economic numbers. He was honored to be booted off that Board, and had his integrity proved thereby.

His worst flaw is in his misguided support for the concealment of anonymous media sources, which enables a corrupt and savagely biased media to freely invent uncheckable facts for use in attacks on media victims.

5. Kelly White for State House in the 7th LD. He's got experience on the state Fish and Wildlife Commission, and he's a good listener who would do a great job representing northeast Washington.

7. McCain. If for only the one reason that McCain acknowledges our need for energy, and in particular nuclear energy. Wind and solar are a tiny percentage, and nothing short of massive taxpayer funded subsidies can change that.

If we want clean air, less coal pollution, and long term, high density energy, the choice as it is in Europe and France, is clear: nuclear.

And McCain is for use of our own exiting oil sources as well. Why is it OK for every other country to drill for oil, but not the US?

8. Steve Litzow for 41st District State Representative! We have known Steve for some years now. His two terms on the Mercer Island City Council, strong business background, and bipartisan work have proven that Steve is the best fit for 41st District State Rep!

9. In the 8th CD Jim Vaughn, a Blue Dog Democrat, conservative democrat that is gaining in the polls. He will be a serious contender in the primary. Ask yourself why Darcy has launched TV ads during the primary rather than waiting for the general election. Answer: Jim's numbers are rising and Darcy's numbers are dropping. Reichert's numbers are also dropping, however, not as fast as Darcy's.

Jim came into the race at the 11th hour and knew he was a long shot. As a result, he has not sought any financial assistance. Once he is one of the top two in the primary, he will focus on campaign contributions.

In opposition to the extremes of the Republicans and liberal democrats, his campaign is focused on representing the voters. In one word is campaign is about EQUALITY. As a result,he is getting votes from the Reichert camp and the Democrats. Reason being he is committed to representing everyone.

He stands up for the citizens ILO partisan politics. We recognize that Dave Reichert is a bobblehead for George Bush and Darcy plays party politics. Someone needs to inform Darcy that we have serious problems and we need individuals that address the issues. This is not a popularity contest.

www.jimvaughnforcongress for a real change. Someone who is dedicated to representing the voters not corporations, casinos or special interest groups. What a novel idea.

10. Steve Beren for US Congress, 7th Congressional District. Steve is a true patriot who supports and honors our military. He is dedicated to keeping out nation safe as a 1st priority.

While incumbent Jim McDermott has visited Iraq on Saddam Hussein's dollar and calls our military personnel "mercenaries", Steve has the wisdom and respect for our great nation that any US Congressman should have.

14. I'm really liking Marilyn Montgomery for secretary of state. She seems to be the only candidate who would focus on cleaning up our elections:

If we can't trust the elections, we have no democracy.

15. Terry Bergeson for SPI

I like her so much I'm even working on her campaign! Her opponent is endorsed by the WEA and the SEIU just put $192,000 into attacks against her in what I beleive is an unlawful and coordinated expenditure.

Slade Gorton, Doug Sutherland, Louise Miller all endorse Bergeson too.

FYI: Chris Vance is helping the other guy.

16. I'll go with McKenna too, also for his Sound Transit history, etc.

However, I am concerned that he's getting to the point in his career where he's lost touch and operating solely on momentum.

However, he is still good for at least one more term. (that would be two, no?)

18. In Clark County:

Christine Webb for Congress. It's a tough race against Baird, but she has a real future in politics. I've seen her in action and she's a natural at campaigning. Smart, attractive and knows the District. Her opponent has divided the Party along with the Ron Paul people he was associated with and their underground campaign to take over the Clark County Convention delegation. Christine has been unanimously nominated by all 7 county GOP organizations in the 3rd.

Joseph James for State Representative in Clark County's 17th District. He's young, able to self-finance much of his campaign and is a refreshing choice after Jim Dunn has done a great to deal to embarass himself and the Republican Party. A Seat in the legislature from what used to be a Republican-leaning district is a terrible thing to waste. The 17th District PCO's nearly unanimously selected him as their candidate. It probably would have been unanimous in Jim Dunn wasn't a PCO.

Brad Lothspeich for Clark County Commissioner. He's a retired Fire District Chief and has a solid reputation in the community. He has the ability to win a countywide race for the Republicans to take control of the Board for the first time in 30 years. He has been endorsed by the local GOP (along with two other candidates).

Posted by: Shalimar on August 11, 2008 08:23 PM
20. I'll second that - Randy Dorn for Sec. of Public Instruction. Just look at what the incumbent Bergerson has achieved - the education system is clearly in a state of disrepair and worse off than when she started. It's a no-brainer...

Posted by: KS on August 11, 2008 08:38 PM
21. Cheryl Pflug for State Senate in the 5th, along with Glenn Anderson and Jay Rodne for House positions 1 and 2 in the 5th. Cheryl's opponent was a Georgia resident 18 months ago and has absolutely NOTHING to offer the 5th.

Posted by: Smokie on August 11, 2008 09:14 PM
22. #18....you state: "The 17th District PCO's nearly unanimously selected him as their candidate"

The total # of PCO's in the 17th District is 62. 16 PCO's voted to endorse Joseph James. I would hardly call that unanimous.

Joseph James is a fine candidate but keep your facts straight.

23. KS says schools are "worse off" than when Bergeson started.

This is just plain false.

12 years ago Washington was in the middle of the pack nationwide for SAT scores. For the last five years we've had the highest scores in the nation for state's where more than 50% of students take the test.

AP class enrollments are up fourfold, and pass rates are up 14%

92% of students passed the reading and writing portion of the WASL and 75% passed the math portion.

Of course Dorn as SPI couldn't legally implement his campaign promise of a new WASL and if he could it would require a multi-year hiatus from graduation requirements.

I'm amazed that any Republican could be backing a guy who constantly likens himself to Barack Obama.

25. Also, Halvorson for Thurston County commissioner. We must defeat Romero.

Posted by: AP on August 11, 2008 09:45 PM
26. Randy Dorn for SPI. We spend an average of $250,000 per classroom. If you think we're getting our money's worth for that $250k, then I suppose a vote for the incumbent may be in order. Otherwise, perhaps the reason our $250,000 per classroom education spending produces average-at-best results is that a sizable chunk of the money is tied up in requiring students to take a meaningless test. If you agree. If you, like me, think that the billions spent on the WASL could be redirected towards lowering class sizes, increasing AP, vocational, special education, etc. programs, and maybe even introducing merit pay, then the incumbent is not your (wo)man. Vote for Randy Dorn.

Side note: both candidates are endorsed by various unions. Dorn is endorsed by the WEA, but Bergeson was a former WEA president. Disqualifying someone in this race based on union affiliation would disqualify all the credible candidates. Look instead at who is working on each campaign. Like him or hate him, the head of the Mainstream Republicans of Washington is helping the incumbent with her campaign. Like him or hate him, a former chair of the actual Washington State Republican Party is helping Dorn with his campaign.

Bottom line: it's time for a change. Vote Randy Dorn.

32. @18
"Smart, attractive and knows the district" is not what people need. What people need are SOLUTIONS and less government, more liberty and more of their money back. Will Webb work for her district to get that for her constituents? Have you personally heard her say anything of the sort?

"Her opponent has divided the Party along with the Ron Paul people he was associated with and their underground campaign to take over the Clark County Convention delegation."

Delavar did not divide the party. He ran with no opposition from any other Republican. In fact, he asked the party if anyone was planning to run against Baird in his district and he was told no. Of course, like most Conservatives, the state party picks a candidate to run against the Conservative. . .

So far as taking over the Clark county convention, why is it that inactive Republicans who wait for the state party to tell them what to do and who to support have a problem with grass roots republicans who are encouraging people to vote and to stand on principles? Why are people against WORKING Republicans who want to grow the party??!?? Where is the "big tent" we hear about? Oh, I guess we'll stand outside the tent with the rest of the Conservatives?

@24
Based on Christine's website, how does one find out what she believes in, where she stands, and what she plans to do about certain issues?

Contrast this with Michael Delavar's website at:
http://www.delavarforcongress.com

The website lays out clearly what Delavar believes in and where he stands on a variety of issues (whether one agrees with him on them is a different issue).

There are "debate" videos also at Delavar's website where he participated in a discussion with Webb. I would suggest Webb supporters to view those videos to get a better idea where Webb stands, especially on disastrous free trade agreements like NAFTA, CAFTA, etc., which she supports. She is also fond of the United Nations. I would be shocked if she was not a RINO. . .

We need someone who will work for the 25th district. We desperately need relief with traffic congestion on Meridian. He is a long-shot because he is young (a college student, I think); but don't let that fool you.
