Christine Gregoire's campaign has added a second spot to her TV ad rotation, even though it doesn't as yet appear on her campaign website as of this typing:
I've said before Gregoire's campaign needs to talk about her accomplishments, which is why her initial radio ads that spent more time bashing Dino Rossi than anything else were peculiar. Yet, even as these ads acheive that over-arching goal, they remain fundamentally off-key.
Voters are not cheery and optimistic right now, but that's the tone of Gregoire's ads. Contrast that with this spot just put out by Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers:
McMorris Rodgers has the same issue Gregoire does: run as an incumbent at a time of a restive electorate. There are a number of stylistic reasons I don't find the McMorris Rodgers's ad to be all that great (though it's by no means bad and the content is solid), but the tone and recognition of political reality is on the money.
Gregoire's two ads thus far? Not so much.
Though I guess I'm not complaining.

McMorris Rodgers decided that family values wasn't so important when you are a member of congress and want to keep your seat. Staying home to raise your own child? Good campaign stuff, but easy to throw overboard when reality sets in.
Posted by: janet s on August 1, 2008 08:58 PMAnd janet, when did McMorris-Rodgers decide family values weren't important?! Come on now.
You see, she's already set up a stereotype of Republicans as backwards weirdos where the wife can't leave the house and must wear long skirts and they only leave to go by groceries and to church. Threfore, obviously, McMorris-Rogers is being hypocritical because she isn't living up to his image of what Republicans are suppose to be like. Women :gasp: having a job? That's obviously not Republican because he says so.
It's actually quite revealing. Latent misogynistic tendencies anyone?
Posted by: Cliff on August 2, 2008 05:51 AMThat said, it is impossible to run an ad on accomplishments when those accomplishments are led by driving us into an almost $3 Billion deficit; becoming the tribal bitch by screwing the taxpayers out of hundreds of millions on killing tribal revenue sharing; complete failure on replacing the "it's going to kill us all if we don't pass the gas tax" viaduct... what kind of commercial can she make out of that?
Posted by: hinton on August 2, 2008 07:55 AMWhat's stopping you from running, Kelly? Seriously.
Posted by: jimg on August 2, 2008 09:27 AMLike in her ad where she takes credit for the 1% property tax cap?
If only the Sheeples were paying attention, they would know she was pimping an EYMAN piece of work.
Incredidable that no one seems to notice, at least in the MSM>
Geez OUT
Posted by: The Geezer on August 2, 2008 11:40 AMIt would not only set the record straight but also help alienate all the Tim haters that would normally vote for Gregiore.
Posted by: johnny on August 2, 2008 04:50 PMEveryone posting a smaller, self made political sign next to those signs on public property, stating VOTE FOR CHANGE! should be appreciated. Especially by her political party. I have to wonder, how quickly one would disappear?
Of course, you would need to put some type of identification on who put the sign there, so why not: Voters For Democratic Change!
Posted by: Sam on August 2, 2008 05:23 PMAND THEN - supposing you don't mind the new entitlement; based on Gregoire's execution it will be bloated, inefficient overbudget and underperforming...hence the 30% increase in the state budget.
Posted by: Andy on August 3, 2008 12:46 PMYeah, I laughed out loud, literally, in shock, when she took credit for the 1% cap. It's true that she did push the legislature to adopt it, but only AFTER she and the Democrats opposed it initially. She only went after the 1% cap because the liberal court turned it down and she didn't want to get killed by the issue in an election year.
As Goldy himself said, "Rossi is actually right Gregoire is reacting rather than leading on this issue."
