Memo to Republican Legislative Candidates

An important point was made in today's P-I article on Dino Rossi (coverage which merits a separate discussion at a later time):

"Generally speaking, (voters) care about them when they are asked, but they are not top-of-the-mind issues these days. The economy, transportation and education always top the list in Washington state, it's always one of those three," he said. "Social issues, crime and safety issues are at the bottom of the list. ...

Yes, this may vary a bit by district, but the over-arching data doesn't lie. If your campaign agenda doesn't reflect this, and you're running in a competitive race, you should rectify that.

Now.

1. I think you have it wrong Eric. What appeared to be the most important in the '06 election, was the overwhelming number of Republiconvicts being prosecuted, and convicted. Imagine how many corrupt Republiconvicts were never even investigated by the Bush FBI, and the Bush Justice Department.....

The American People are just starting to understand the GOP is just one big criminal enterprise. How else could you explain the takeover of our state's legislature?

The crime wave is almost over. Thank God.

Google "Corrupt Bastards Club" and you figure it out.....

2. AFSMP,

It's a little early for you to be hitting the pipe don't you think?

Are you for real? You really believe that? By making these statements, you seem to be convieniently avoiding all the Democonvicts crime waves.

3. I never said the Dems were without corrupt members, or major problems. There is a big difference between the parties though. The GOP is corrupt from top to bottom, and at every level. Look up K-Street Project. Don't stop there.

The GOP, and their attempts for secret government, and zero accountability is a stain on our democracy.

It's too bad. We need conservatives that are not crooks, or religious nut cases, wanting to shove their beliefs down my throat.

If Republicon Legislative Candidates want to get elected, they should switch parties. Maybe they could at least attempt to clean up their own party from the cesspool of corruption their members are being prosecuted for on practically a daily basis.

Imagine how many precious tax dollars went to Alaska for crap. You want to fight to the death over taxes, but could care less when they are wasted in Iraq, or on earmarks in the middle of no where.

Pssssst. Do something......

4. AFSMP,

A. You're a dumba$$ troll and I shouldn't even bother responding to you.

B. That said, please don't pretend that you actually care about the pork that went up to Alaska. The only person in the Senate who's an even bigger porker then Stevens is Robert KKK Byrd. Guess which party he's in? So even if your "guilt by association" accusation was true, you'd still be wrong.

5. There isn't any shortage of corruption on either side of the aisle. Pointing out this or that politican's corruption is a waste of time. The real problem is that over the years the role of the Federal government has been expanded to the point where the incredible amount of money and power available to politicans just begs for abuse. We will never be free of corrupt politicans, but we would surely reduce the amount and size of the problem if we limited the Federal government to its legal role as defined by the Constitution.

6. O my Gawd, you mean Solar colonization is NOT a Washington State priority??

Pleez, get serious ...

Our glorious leader knows better!!

7. @3: By making these statements, you seem to be convieniently avoiding all the Democonvicts crime waves.

You give me a list of all Democrats in the federal government over the past ten years that have been indicted or convicted of a crime, and I'll do the same. Let's see which list is longer, and, more importantly, involved more serious crimes.

@4: The only person in the Senate who's an even bigger porker then Stevens is Robert KKK Byrd. Guess which party he's in? So even if your "guilt by association" accusation was true, you'd still be wrong.

But when did controlling Congressional earmarks start becoming a big problem for Republicans? I'll give you a hint... it wasn't when they were in power!

We will never be free of corrupt politicans, but we would surely reduce the amount and size of the problem if we limited the Federal government to its legal role as defined by the Constitution.

So you're assuming that power and money and corruption would just disappear if that were to happen? That's very optimistic!

8. No one answer polls honestly. That's why campaign issue ads do NOT lockstep with them.

Crime is on everyone's secret hotlist, but if you state such an inner belief then you are exposing yourself as a cryptic but de-facto racist.

Based upon actions and not on words, the average citizen couldn't care less about the environment.

I note that the one undepleted section at public library book sales is "nature and environment".

Yet who would ignore the chime of our fragile children and the need for clean air and water?

That's why Dino's new TV ad shows him standing in front of a glistening brook with water surely cleaner than that in an Evian bottle.

Reichert's campaign photos will show him in front of the lower reaches of the Pratt River. He intends to extend the Alpine Lakes Wilderness to include that particularly uninteresting part of our Cascade Mountains.

It's all about the advertisability of FEELINGS, not about poll data.

9. That's a funny poll result. I don't yet have any kid in the education system so that's a weak point for me, besides I consider it a very local issue ( ie, more an issue of local spending priorities and curricula than state funding ). Crime is a big one however.

Where I lived in tukwila, in a four day period there were three shootings within a mile of my place. Where I live now, there is a common string of shootings, break-ins, thefts up the hill from me.

We've tried the liberal approach to solving crime, hand outs and programs, for forty-five years, how has it helped? Transportation and crime are the two things I want government to fix, they're the only two things mentioned that government /can/ fix.

13. I am running for State House Rep. in the 36th, District, Position #1. Education and transportation are "big deals" with me. Also, the fact that both of my opponents want to have a state income tax (that would probably mean 10% sales tax and 10% state income tax) is something I am quite concerned about. I also am in favor of an elevated viaduct--the surface street solution that Reuven C. wants would not handle the 100,000+ vehicles that travel over the viaduct daily.

Right now we do not have a tax problem...we have a spending problem.
