Dino's 1st TV ad

It's heavy on the same theme of new leadership that worked so well - albeit under different circumstances - in 2004. Gregoire's campaign no doubt wishes this ad wouldn't resonate. A year ago that might have worked; not now.

Thus, the combination of this TV ad coupled with the related Rossi radio spot offers a stark contrast with Gregoire's initial TV offering:

One candidate, Rossi, is acknowledging the mood of the electorate and offering a solution. The other, Gregoire, is trying to convince voters that things are ducky and the status quo is a-ok, which it most obviously isn't.

Footnote: While the messaging of Rossi's spot is good, it would make sense at some point to see either a biographical ad or an ad otherwise heavy on such content.

Despite the high name ID of both gubernatorial candidates, two universes of voters still need some basic background: new voters to the state since 2004, and "lazy" voters (meaning those that vote infrequently outside of Presidential election years - and are thus not prone to be highly partisan). The latter group especially may have some basic favorable feelings toward Rossi, but will need a reminder of why he's a viable choice, especially in this election year when Republicans are not exactly a default choice.

Why does this matter? Because if the election is anywhere near as close as last time then the universe of voters described above is likely to be the the decisive batch of late-deciding voters that determines our next Governor.

1. Interesting that the current Gov touts a 1% Property Tax increase cap. Whose idea was that anyway? And why have my property taxes increased 71% since 2006?

2. Seabecker @ 1

It certainly wasn't Rossi's idea! He never sponsored any such legislation during the seven years he was in Olympia. Instead, it took an initiative to adopt the idea in the first place. And then Christine Gregoire's leadership to get the cap in place, after the courts declared that Tim Eyman's wording was not constitutional.

3. I just love that Lie. Her gang alone raised the states portion 1% this year, and my property evaluation by that blood sucking Island county is now 200,000 over the amount Zillow shows the home worth.

Of course Mary Margaret bloodsucker Haugen thinks it's just great as it's more for the democratic leeches.

Every time I see that Gregoire add with the people holding that 1% sign, I think lies and damn lies.

It is time for a retroactive proposition 13 in this state, afer we elect one more sane judge to the state supreme court so these bloosuckers cannot overrule every initiative and CAO court ruling the citizens of this state deserve.

I'm voting for Rossi, against every Sound Transit an other tax sucking entry this blood suckers put on the ballot.

I'll carry my ballot to the post office in a plastic bag

By the way - did you notice the city of Seattle just passed a new homeless occupational reform bill?

You will no longer see the homeless in Seattle begging.

The will now become wealthy entrepreneurs in Seattle, selling plastic and paper bags (soon styrofoam take out containers) in front of every grocery and restaurant outlet in Seattle.

You gotta love Liberalism when capitalism kicks it in the ass!

4. #1: Ha, yes--Gregoire is saying "See, I LIKE Tim Eyman's 1% property tax limit. (actually, I hated it but had no choice but to sound like I support it to get re-elected)"

5. Dino needs a clear margin to overcome the Soviet-style vote counting in Seattle precincts. And I believe he will get just that. Anyone with a brain has grown weary of the queen and her court (legislature). Send a message to Seattle and Olympia....Your days are numbered!

6. With zillow's ridiculous overinflating I have seen, I am shocked your house was assessed at higher than zillow.

Pope, Democrats don't want property tax increases capped. That they did in this case was pandering in the first degree and subject to the death (vote out of office) penalty.

7. And then Christine Gregoire's leadership to get the cap in place, after the courts declared that Tim Eyman's wording was not constitutional.

BULL. Greywhore couldn't lead herself out of a phone booth. The Washington State Democrat Communist Party put the initiative in place out of fear of losing their places at the public feeding trough, and let's not forget that Greywhore and the rest of the Communists did nothing to eliminate banked taxing capacity. Let's also not forget where that initiative came from...WE THE PEOPLE...not the Democrat Communist Party of Washington State. Tim Eyman wrote it up and we voted for it...Greywhore and the rest of the them in Olympia had nothing to do with it.

8. #1. I watched my property taxes rise 500% between 1972 and 2005. Each year, I would put aside a few bucks to cover needed repairs (roof, plumbing, etc.) only to see it snatched up by the next years property tax increase. Ask yourself who has been running this state during that period. Democrats practicing pickpocket politics in case you're wondering.

9. I have Dino's next (radio) ad:

Ominous music plays in the background. An older male voice speaks. "When you think the name Christine Gregoire, what name comes to mind? Christine Gregoire recklessly overspent and created massive budget shortfalls. Just like George Bush. She gave her well-connected friends special breaks while stiffing the little guy. Just like George Bush. And now she says everything is hunky-dory, even though you know we need change. Just like George Bush."

10. Not sure if this is the same Rossi Ad I saw on the news last night (I don't have sound on this system), but the one I heard last night sure was heavy on the "Change" theme. Sounded to me like he was grabbing hold of the Obama mantra and applying it to State politics. Probably a smart move.

11. wow, the lack of understanding over the "1% property tax increase" is astounding. it doesn't mean that your property taxes can't increase by more than one percent every year. that makes no difference. it means the RATE at which your property tax is determined cannot exceed 1%. so you can't be chared 5% one year and then 7% the next. 6% would be the max
