For starters Joel Connelly has enough material to write a firmly negative take on Christine Gregoire's re-election campaign.
In not so stunning news, Connelly finds that just like 2004, Gregoire is a much more effective bureaucrat than campaigner. More importantly, Connelly also finds copious gnashing of teeth about Gregoire's current efforts on the trail, including:
A veteran national Democratic Party strategist termed the governor's kickoff spot "badly written and a bit hokey," and tone deaf to the public mood."People are upset and this flies in the face of their concerns about the cost of gas, rising unemployment, the ferry system disaster and the problems in state agencies," he added.
This, again, is highly reminiscent of 2004, when Gregoire couldn't close the deal in the waning months of a campaign in which she was the heavy favorite. Here's the kicker from Connelly in assessing this year's effort:
In a larger sense, the governor's re-election -- and her legacy -- depend on the Illinois senator. Obama is needed to turn out the volunteers and register new voters.
A Democratic incumbent in a blue state in desperate need of a turnout boost from up the ticket in 2008 of all years is quite a peculiar sight.
Add it all up, and Dino Rossi's campaign announcing its astounding 38,000th contributor on Thursday makes a lot more sense.

"Hope", as defined by the Obama campaign, means huge tax increases upon those who WORK in order to finance futile giveaway programs for those who choose NOT TO.
All this will render is what we had in 1980; crushing individual and corporate tax burdens that stifle innovation and economic development, massive unemployment, high interest and inflation rates.......all leading to economic stagnation. And....the poor will still be poor.
It would be much better to:
1. Severely curtail the present giveaway programs, forcing the indolent to work
2. Kick the illegals out of the country
3. Suspend much of the oppressive government taxation and constrictive regulation that stifle economic growth
In other words, quit promising the American dream to the idle and return it to those willing to work.
I got the transcript of the speech and read it aloud to the crew (I know the reaction against the speech had as much to do with my voice made for print as anything else), but the total crew, from the non-voters to the radical socialist were taken aghast by the speech. There were more than a few references to the ability of Hitler to mesmermize the masses. After all, the speech was in Germany, wasn't it?
(Ed. Note: I am not comparing Obama with Hitler with respect to policies or anything of that, but just of the oratory ability to mesmerize the audience.)
Lastly, when the DalaiBama wrapped up the D nomination from the more qualified Clinton, he said, "when we look back at this day, remember that this is the day that the earth began to heal and seas began to subside".

*** UPDATE *** From NBC's Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube
A U.S. military official tells NBC News they were making preparations for Sen. Barack Obama to visit wounded troops at the Landstuhl Medical Center at Ramstein, Germany on Friday, but "for some reason the visit was called off."
One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obama's representatives were told, "he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers." In addition,
"Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obama's visit."
The official said "We didn't know why" the request to visit the wounded troops was withdrawn. "He (Obama) was more than welcome. We were all ready for him."
This scumbag isn't fit to kiss a wounded PFC's shoes, let alone be President.

The only thing that Queen Chrissy "created" is a $2.7 BILLION deficit.
The only JOBS she's "created" are a massive increase in state government jobs.
And yet, you consistently fail to give her all the credit she has coming for THOSE accomplishments.
Now.... why is that?
Queen Chrissy is the Jimmy Carter of governors. That you could somehow be proud of that, let alone continue to support it, just shows 3what a partisan hack you really are.

Posted by: NW Denizen on July 25, 2008 10:06 AMIf former attorney general created all those jobs, then where is the revenue associated with them? Creating 200,000 more jobs - meaning 8% more working adults - should have this state swimming in money!
So why the deficit? Why has the budget swung more than $4 BILLION from a surplus and rainy day fund to a massive deficit?
Those "jobs" she created - Government employees or "do you want fries with that?" type jobs.
REAL jobs are fleeing this state. Businesses are closing and moving out. The former attorney general is not counting the losses, which outweigh the private industry gains.
So you would rather spend a day at DMV than an hour?
I do neither. I use the web and mail to handle the DMV. Imagine that - you can actually avoid using government employees! I bet we could eliminate 90% of the DMV duties by automating through the web...
Jobs don't count?
See above - the jobs she's reporting are bogus. We're losing jobs, we're losing tax base, and the former attorney general keeps spending more, more, more!
TVA?
I fail to see what Tennessee has to do with Washington. It's a nice state, but what does that have to do with our election here?
New Deal?
Yes, it's only bankrupting the US. You do realize that nearly 70% of the Federal budget is entitlements and legally mandated spending, don't you? That Social Security and Medicare are on the edge of imploding. Ponzi schemes always fail at some point, and the Democrats and the Gregoire refuse to allow any discussion about addressing the problems.
G.I. Bill?
You mean the bill that was actually passed, written by REPUBLICAN Warren Atherton, not the scrapped and much more limited version thrown up by FDR? Glad to know you recognize that responsible and worthy piece of REPUBLICAN legislation as a paragon of Governmental duty...
I wish the Republicons stood for accountability
Name a time in the last 20 years when the Republicans had control of the State of Washington.
When you are done with that, tell me how the accountability of the former attorney general is working with her refusal to address the budget deficit until AFTER the election.
Tell me about her accountability with giveaways of hundreds of millions of dollars to line her own personal re-election pockets with a few hundred thousand.

The Dali Bama is much the same. Always blame a staffer, never accomplish a thing in life, and always seek the next higher office.
The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll is making headlines today for what it paradoxically says about the state of the 2008 contest and about the candidates themselves. The poll of registered voters gives Obama a six-point lead. (Polls of "likely voters" tend to be more accurate and conservative.) But on a number of key measurements, Senator McCain scores very well, highlighting, as the Wall Street Journal notes, voters' unease with Obama. For example: Asked which candidate had better experience, respondents chose Senator McCain by 34-point margin, 53%-to-19%. This point is best highlighted by the fact that Senator McCain spent more time in a North Vietnamese POW camp than Barack Obama has spent in the United States Senate!Asked which candidate would be a better commander-in-chief, respondents chose Senator McCain by a 28-point margin, 53%-to-25%.
Asked which candidate had strong leadership qualities, respondents chose Senator McCain by an 11-point margin, 42%-to-31%.
When asked which candidate was most consistent in standing up for his beliefs, voters chose Senator McCain by an eight-point margin, 38%-to-30%.
When asked which candidate was more honest and straightforward, voters again chose Senator McCain, 33%-to-29%.
When asked which candidate's values and background voters could most identify with, 58% of voters chose Senator McCain. This is a critical question because, above all else, voters want to be able to sleep at night knowing they can trust the president when the "phone rings at 3:00 in the morning."
The pollsters also asked this interesting question: "Who do you think would be the riskier choice for president?" By a 20-point margin, 55%-to-35%, voters said Barack Obama would a "riskier" choice for president.
I am not comparing Obama with Hitler with respect to policies or anything of that, but just of the oratory ability to mesmerize the audience.)

Posted by: Ragnar Danneskjold on July 25, 2008 12:31 PMThe Obama phenomenon is based on a rejection of the traditional party line that has failed to create new ideas or solutions to old problems. Gregoire has been all party line.
I doubt very heavily that Obama would have as much difficulty deciding the fate of the 520 bridge, the viaduct, or our ferry system. He would at least be able to say something coherent that made sense.
Obama is going to draw a lot of democratic leaning young voters, but they won't necessarily be Democrats. These voters are more likely to be better informed and they are fed up with no solutions coming out of Olympia.
That is why Gregoire is in trouble. These Obama voters aren't going to have any problem splitting the ticket and voting for Rossi. Rossi supporters are fired up after the last election. Obama supporters aren't likely to be fired up for Gregoire because she isn't dealing with the most obvious problems facing this state.
It's just more of the same, and we can't expect a different result when we keep doing more of the same. We are past due for some housecleaning in the Governor's office. Rossi isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I might give it a try after four years of not getting anything resolved.

Sure, lots of Democrats like Joel Connelly are complaining about the Gregoire campaign - because she's not running to the left, but to where most voters are on a wide range of issues.
All Gregoire needs to do to win convincingly is to get a few more older people to vote and overcome the anti-Gregoire vote among Democrats in King County that resulted from her primary fight with Ron Sims.
People in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties appear to be far more comfortable with Gregoire now, than they were four years ago, when she was mostly unfamiliar to most - even though she had been Attorney General. That's a common problem for AGs - people know who they are, but they rarely get very familiar with them, so support can be wide, but pretty shallow.
I'd bet Gregoire's base of support is much deeper this year.

Why should we elect a Governor who took a balanced budget and a $1 billion dollar rainy day fund and turned it into a $3 billion dollar deficit? In four years, that represents a billion dollars a year blown in the budget.

Posted by: Shanghai Dan on July 26, 2008 09:14 AMBIAW plans to respond to the September lawsuit in the "next few days" and is likely to file a countersuit, said Timothy Harris, the organization's general counsel. He called the lawsuit "ludicrous."
"They know how we spend the money," he said of the plaintiffs. "The bottom line is they knowingly signed a contract, and now they are going after us because they don't like our political speech."
BIAW has supported a number of Republican candidates and promotes pro-housing policies, which often puts it at odds with environmental groups.
Home building is the bread and butter for BIAW's 13,500 members.
BIAW also says that it is upfront with its fee structure.
"You have to be a moron to not understand how our retro program works. It's in the contract; everyone knows how we spend the money," said Erin Shannon, BIAW spokeswoman in Olympia.
The organization also handles the paperwork for L&I worker's-compensation claims on behalf of its members.
"This program is run just like any other private business. We provide a service. We sign a contract," Shannon said. "We obviously receive payment. If you don't like it, you are free to shop around and go elsewhere."
Bottom line, BIAW is not a union. It is a Builder's Association, and the builders can join a different association if they do not like the political lobbying of BIAW geared to help builders stay in business.

The GOP can help us continue our prosperity if they want. They can stand for accountability, and responsibility, and shine the light on every action, to make sure we are led by honest people, on both sides of the aisle. They can also work to get the special interest money (like tribes and BIAW) out of our state's politics for good.

Posted by: Rick D. on July 27, 2008 09:36 AMRick. "Worst 4 years" really? None of my houses here have gone down in value 30% to 40% like my condo in Miami, a state run by corrupt Republiconvicts that DID NOT LIMIT DEVELOPERS PROPERLY.
Why are you upset? Has your job been outsourced? Has your health care been stripped, after they discovered you were sick? Have you been laid off, and replaced by a non union worker at half your salary? Have you had to go bankrupt because you have a sick child? Are your kids being arrested because both their parents have to work full time to pay on their credit cards, and can't bring them up proper? Has your Enron, or Worldcom (TIAA CREF took a huge hit on that one) stock disappeared because of lack of oversight, and outright un/little prosecuted fraud? You can't get a loan? You can't sell your house for what you owe on it? The list of problems caused mainly by "conservative" economic policies, and trickle up "rich get richer-poor get poorer" attitudes is endless.
I wish the GOP did something good for our state. I am tired of hearing them crying constantly. The problems we all face are not exactly the making of Christine Gregoire. They are mainly caused by people with uncontrolled greed, and no respect for their fellow man, or for good/open/accountable/responsible government, in our state of our nations capitol.
They would rather let corporations, defense contractors, a corrupt dishonest right wing controlled media, and rich people chose for us how we are to live our lives, and raise our children.
Posted by: All Facts Support My Positions on July 27, 2008 10:25 AMDenzien, actually Bush got less than 50% of the vote, and if it wasn't for election fraud, by Jeb Bush, and Katherine Harris, Gore would be finishing his 2nd term, and the world would be far better off.
You make me laugh. Gore got less than 50% of the popular vote too, you pinhead. It doesn't matter. Ever heard of the Electoral College? All of that other crap was debunked a long time ago. You are living in the past. Since you are though, consider this, would Algore be President today if he had carried Tennessee...his own state? Think about it. His own state didn't want him as President. Assuming all that nonsense you quoted was true, and Bush did steal the election, how do you justify the flap over our last gubernatorial election here in Washington State? Two wrongs make a right? It's just payback? When Democrats start accusing someone of something, it just means that it is Democrats that are engaging in that activity themselves.
We hung Japanese soldiers for the very same crimes we are ourselves committing.
Are you insane? You compare American troops with the Japanese military in World War II? The Japanese raped and murdered some 300,000 people in Nanking alone. Some estimate that 30 million Chinese died at the hands of the Japanese. The Japanese were beheading our boys in the Pacific ...AND EATING THEM. You, no doubt, would consider it torture if someone took away your bong. Sheesh!
Before you start defining me Smokie, you should go to drinking liberally, and meet me. Who I am, and what I have accomplished in my lifetime, though not nearly enough by my standard, may amaze you.
What is the penalty for one murder? One million murders?
The same.
Since we have not slaughtered as many innocent souls as the Japanese, or tortured as many, it makes our sickening acts of torture, and murder tolerable to you right?
America may never recover from Reaganomics. Their plan was to wipe out the middle class, and they are succeeding. Just not as much in this state. Even Bushonomics, and the GOP control of all 3 branches of government for years has had limited effect destroying our state's economy. We are beginning to feel the pinch now though.
We are fortunate to live in such a wonderful state, with as many opportunities. Thank God we have had Democrats in charge for so long.
God Bless Christine Gregoire, and Gary Locke. You may want to thank Patty Murry, and Maria Cantwell while you are at it, along with a few outstanding congresspeople too.
As far as the legislature? They gotta fix this idiotic real estate bill FAST.
Posted by: All Facts Support My Positions on July 27, 2008 11:48 AMRight! like Dave Reichert.... Darcy Burner is too busy torching her own house to run for congress.
I guess she's looking forward to all those insurance checks to fund her futile campaign.
What is is about facts, history, and reality that liberals find so inconvenient, and therefore ignore?
What is it like being in Disneyland 24/7, for decades, ever since your were 7 yrs old?
Pathetic.........Dangerous.......
Posted by: Hank on July 27, 2008 12:45 PMI will not be joining you at drinking liberally since I do have standards.
Posted by: Smokie on July 27, 2008 01:01 PMOh yeh right. Mine have tripled in 3 years.
That still running a 33% per year increase.
It matches her 31% pissing out the window budget and spending splurge
Posted by: gs on July 27, 2008 01:43 PM"Facts"(less) is a parody of the moonbat lefties, much like that New Yorker cover!
Whew! I'm glad we cleared that up... because let's face it, no one can be that myopically stupid... can they??
God help us all if they can.
Posted by: Ragnar Danneskjold on July 27, 2008 02:36 PMStill waiting. Put up or shut up. All Facts Are In Your Own Mind. Period.
Posted by: NW Denizen on July 27, 2008 04:52 PMWow, I totally agree on pretty much every last bit of that. And I live in King County! No way.
