Another Milestone for Rossi
Dino Rossi's campaign announced yesterday that he has already raised more money in 2008 than that which he compiled in his entire 2004 campaign (he's over $6,250,000 already this year).
This should come as little surprise when one considers that back in May, Rossi's current contributor list surpassed his total number of donors from 2004 (30,745). Now, it numbers over 37,000 and counts two-thirds of those donors as new to the campaign, meaning they didn't give in 2004.
Yes, Christine Gregoire is likewise going to crush her previous fundraising record from 2004. Both sides are going to be loaded for bear given the local and national attention being given to this race.
Recall, however, that many a major business community contributor who gave to Rossi in 2004, or split their contributions to both sides given the open nature of that race, are now either giving either solely to Gregoire or not at all. Rossi's current success on the fundraising trail is heavily reliant on a grassroots level of support hitherto unseen in Evergreen State gubernatorial politics.
On a related note, I'd say Rossi is going to need it. For now, the respective 3rd party groups (Change PAC/BIAW and Evergreen Progress) are close to canceling each other out. While that is about as good as Rossi could hope to get running against a Democratic incumbent in a blue state, that same dynamic means the incumbent will be well-funded indeed for this fall.
Money is by no means everything, but in a close election, every opportunity one gets to elevate your own message and/or mitigate your opponent's is important.

1. Dino's contributions are from individuals and are legitimate unlike The She Devil.... aka Gregoire who's campaign contributions come from out of state and the tribes, people who have no stake in this state. CAN YOU HEAR IT>>>> IT SOUNDS LIKE A LANDSLIDE IS COMING>>> OH NO BYE BYE Gregoire!!!!!
2. My conversations with friends, acquaintenances and co-workers lead me to still believe that our Governor will retain her post.
Somehow Sir Dino must find a way (in the relatively short time henceforth) to shed the 'slick' image and I'll be interested if that 'shedding' is attempted in his ads. May be it's an unfair portrayal, but the vibes I'm getting (and not only from liberals) is that he has this image.
$Money is muy importante and with the right ads may be they can supercede that stigma he seems to have. Otherwise Sir Dino will go down and more decisivly than last time around. :)
3. I wonder how the Governor is going to square her denial of the upcoming deficit to the voters. Her image is not slick, it's sick. It's sort of like the State Democratic Party taking in $250,000 ( the majority of the fundraising for that month) from the Tribes and in the same month giving Gregoires campaign $200,000...yet she claims she did not benefit from the tribal contributions, "it's would be illegal" she screeched on the Dori Monson Show.
4. This is great news, but what is being done to get the voters out for Rossi.
I frequently travel in western and eastern WA and see little if any information to vote for him?
No canvassing except a couple of unkept kids with Rossi shirts knocking on some doors.
I was out in the yard and they did not even approach me.
If Rossi thinks "tv" adds alone will swing the voters, he is wrong.
The queen of spending must go!
Please start reporting on what advances he has made to swing voters his direction, not how much money he has raised.
We all know he has wealth behind him, but what about the common disinfranchised middle class?

6. I certainly hope so, considering the value of the dollar today vs in 2004
$6,250,000.00 in 2008 had about the same buying power as $5,483,702.86 in 2004. (http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm)
Anyway, hopefully it's enough.
PS - can we get rid of that retarded, unprofessional looking TV ad with the old lady playing the slots?
It looks like a 5 year old created it. plzkthx
7. We can only hope that a legal governor will take office this time.
8. There should be more visibilty from all officeholders and challengers. When was the last time you heard anything significant from any of them? It's like they're just drawing a check and keeping a low profile, or they're not really doing their jobs. Cantwell, Murray and Reichert are invisible. What the hell do they do besides posture on rare occasions? Reichert's current dubious claim to fame is that he sold out to the dumb-down teachers' lobby. He now supports lower class sizes (and more teachers and more taxes), like Burner. Our state is near the bottom in the nation in the number of graduate students -- we have to import them, while the numbers of our kids who should be in grad school are so stupid from poor public education they are now serving burgers to those imports. The teachers' unions must be outlawed. They are clearly destroying our infrastructure. Many union officials are neosoviets, as are many teachers, who graduate in the lower quartile. Oh yes, they are also Gregoire's fellow travelers. These inferior and immoral people should be removed from power and isolated, by force if necessary, or they will bring us all down. Alter or abolish.
9. Wow, Dino has really kicked it. I am waaay impressed. Go DINO!
10. Duffer
Sir Dino must find a way (in the relatively short time henceforth) to shed the 'slick' image.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
DUDE, how many times must I tell you to knock off the booze. (slick) is Bill Clinton name, not Dino.
11. My major concern is the election thieves in the Peoples Republic of Seattle. State Republicans should request that Federal officials oversee vote counting at King County Elections, or illegal aliens, double voters, felons, the unregistered and the dead will again determine who resides in our Governor's Mansion.
12. Congressman Dave Reichert has won important endorsements from the national and state teachers' unions. The usually-Democratic leaning National Education Association and Washington Education Association announced yesterday that they are backing the two-term Republican's re-election.
Lovin it. (seattle times)
13. Does it say how much of Dhino Abu Rossi's money comes from Saudi Arabia to promote gas consumption? Or does it cover it up, instead?
14. "This is great news, but what is being done to get the voters out for Rossi."
What is being done.... in your neighborhood?
In my County we are phone banking daily (700 calls Thursday - 9 to 1 Dino), door belling and overall getting a great response in a county Dino lost by 133 votes in 2004.
Every person, every vote. Get out there and knock on some doors!
