Democratic Ads Against Reichert

That didn't take long.

Just a short time after some had the gall to think Darcy Burner wouldn't receive ample support from national Democrats, the TV cavalry has arrived

Of note, this is a big ad buy. 2,400 points means the typical viewer will see the ad 24 times in a week. Even more troublesome is the expected absence of the National Republican Congressional Committee from similar efforts. With their finances in the tank (in stark contrast to the well-funded RNC), incumbent members like Reichert are likely going to be left to fend for themselves.

Moreover, with Reichert continuing to lag Burner in fundraising (Reid Wilson has a good summary here), don't expect his campaign to make up the difference in national party spending.

Think of it like this. Congressional campaigns have three stools - excluding outside interest groups: the campaign itself, the relevant national campaign committee, and the national/state party's get-out-the-vote operation.

Reichert has an advantage in this race as an electable incumbent, in a tough district, facing the same Democratic challenger who couldn't beat him in 2006 of all years. Yet, the stool is not complete this year. One leg (the NRCC) is virtually missing. Another (Reichert's own campaign) is respectable, but not quite as strong as it should be. Only the third (the RNC & WSRP) seems set to do its job well without much question.

This is much of the reason I have a lingering bad feeling about this race, despite Reichert's proven record of closing well down the campaign stretch.

1. "Another (Reichert's own campaign) is respectable, but not quite as strong as it should be."

Well, hell, Eric... with your VAST experience at running campaigns, I'm STUNNED that he hasn't scarfed you up and made you his campaign manager.

After all, you know all and, presumably, could fix all in a few brief moments and it wouldn't interfere with your real job one wit.

2. Hinton - Jeez. Bitter much? Or are you always this cranky in the morning?

3. And worst of all, it's too late for Reichert to change parties....

4. Eric, this is 'same ole, same ole' for you. So I'll just repost my 'same ole' response: Regardless of how much money Darcy Burner raises, she'll still be Darcy Burner - an unemployed, former middle manager, law school dropout who lost to Reichert last time in the biggest congressional Dem sweep in 30 years. With presidential campaigns and a high-profile governor's race making headlines, the Darcy's campaign is more of a yawner this year than in '06. All the money in the world (and most of it comes from contributors who are outside the district/state) can't make up for the fact that she's uninteresting, uninformed, and not ready for prime time.

5. McCain says he is for the so called DREAM Act

I have always said that Republicans would support Democratic Policies as long as it was a Republican backing it.

7. Hey, All Your "Facts" Are Bogus, I bet you're thrilled the teachers went with Dave, eh?

Besides the obvious, one can only wonder what they now... that you don't.

8. Blue states such as Washington are almost undeserving of a Dave Reichert.

Perhaps Clay Bennett could move all the deserving Cons to Oklahoma where they'd be appreciated...

9. Listening to Disco Inferno Darcy Burnout on Dave Ross' show last week was enough for me to predict a Reichert win in November. She came across on the radio as someone similar to Patty Murray, but with ADHD and was all over the place during the interview.

In a word, A "ditz".

10. "ditz" is a word to describe Murray.

11. I'd like to make a TV ad for Darci with the old Talking Heads tune "Burning Down the House" playing in the background.

13. diamondshards - Actually, the Reichert and Burner campaigns have been getting the only publicly countable dollars on their reports (i.e. the itemized donations) from substantially the same geographic distribution: http://www.kirkdorffer.com/ontheroadto2008/2008/05/in-depth-look-at-wa-08-fundraising.shtml

Burner actually had more in state and in district donations than Reichert as of Q2.

But, I won't argue with you regarding your opinion of the candidate. There isn't anything to see here.
