Clown of the Day: Greg Nickels

Today's award goes to Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, who counts among his top priorities: increasing the supply of affordable housing and increasing housing density to reduce sprawl.

Yet as we read in today's paper, when the market actually delivers affordable high-density housing, Nickels' response is to regulate it out of existence.

We suspect that Nickels values central planning and the power and patronage that goes along with it, more than he values the outcomes he claims to seek.

As Seattle-area homeowners, we (Juvenal) can only get so upset about policies which restrict the supply of housing and artificially inflate our resale values. But we definitely appreciate Mayor Nickels for giving us a good chuckle. Cue the music.

1. How come 'juvenal' clown/circus posts don't get many responses?

2. What are you going to replace the golly good fellow with? The alternatives don't seem to be much better.

3. Well, Duffer... that's kinda like asking why your posts don't make any sense. They are what they are.

In this case, Nickels is such an obviously clueless leftist moron that a great deal of comments aren't necessary... but thanks for asking.

4. #3 Thanks for your astute wisdom, you always seem to come through with such astounding brilliance.

5. hinton, notice the demo kid has been silenced since the Grand Return?

Posted by: swatter on July 9, 2008 01:49 PM
6. ...and yet another 'fruit of the loom' participant. Ah..to be 'graced' by such cerebral excellence...'tis a joy and a privilege I say, especially in the clown/circus context. :)

7. Thanks, Duff. But then, I AM so bright my mother calls me "son." And yes, oddly enough, I HAVE noticed the lack of the moronic countenance known as "dumbo kid" since the return.

Sheer coincidence, I'm sure.

8. Ummmmm, Oh yes 'son-on-the-beach', I've heard that reference before. Sorry, not your 'demo' man.

Posted by: Duffman on July 9, 2008 02:10 PM
9. hahaha, Duffie, they think demokid is YOU!

Well I have to admit. You both sound the same. (stupid)

Sorry buddy, but you do.

Duff where you been?

10. Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, Duffman's here.

11. First Nickles forces builders to create townhomes in high crime districts fueled by his Light Rail fiasco. Then, when they rightly build the townhomes as fortresses to avoid break ins and shootings, he complains they should have nice little fences and carports and street facing doorways!!!

Look. These people know what they're doing because they live there. Get the weekly homicide rate down to one or two a week in Rainer Valley and then maybe people will start planting wildflower gardens and sitting on their porches in the evening in your "affordable townhomes"...

13. Because looking at the fools with the Clowns tells it all - not a lot of need for many words.

14. As always, Don... your incredible political genius notwithstanding...

IF YOU DON'T LIKE 'EM.... DON'T READ 'EM.

Otherwise, STFU if you have nothing constructive to offer.

16. Sorry Hinton, when an anonymous "contributor" is taking this site into the toilet, and devaluing the work everyone else here does in the process, I'm going to point it out.

The "Clown of the Day" posts are death of Sound Politics if they are allowed to continue.

Besides, crappy (so-called) conservative commentary is just as fair game for satire and ridicule as lousy, liberal thought.

17. Bring it on baby! Mayor Puss Gut can restrict housing and increase density all he wants. It only makes mine worth more. A lot more. How can I resent that?
