Happy Independence Day

The EFF put up this Fourth of July video:

Which reminded me of a video I put up last year, a cover of "Fireworks" from Schoolhouse Rock:

Happy Independence Day! Having fun blowing up little bits of paper and cardboard with black powder! I sure will.

[NB: I know that, in fact, it was Robert Livingston, not Philip Livingston, who was on the committee to draft the Declaration of Independence. Schoolhouse Rock got it wrong, and when I copied them, so did I.]

1. Edmonds outlawed fireworks. Can you imagine what John Adams would have thought of that? He would have taken that to be the sign that the Revolution was over, that tyranny had come again to the new world.

Great job on the song, Pudge. I wish it included the next part of the Declaration, which is one of my favorite parts:

"...That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government,..."

I believe that the current government, which should have been the greatest defender of our equal, individual rights to life, liberty and property, has now become the biggest threat to those rights.

I think that it is time for a peaceful revolution, in the form of non-cooperation with government.

I think that this is what justice and the Declaration call for.

But to most of the people, the Fourth of July is just a day for picnics and fireworks.

And in Edmonds, not even fireworks.

Unfortunatly, lighting off fireworks in Seattle usually draws men in blue suits with guns. I have one whopper that I might sneak in though.

4. Happy Fourth To All. This is my favorite day of the year.

And I love to think of how freedom, independence, pursuit of happiness, less taxation, capitalism, achievement, gun ownership, individualism, wealth, integrity, energy usage, extraction of the earth's resources, free will, creativity, privatization, barbeques, fireworks, red white and blue flags, boats, fires, etc.

all make Progressives, Socialists, Marxists, Collectivists, Nutrooters, etc. squirm with frustration, resentment and anxiety.

5. And yeah Bruce, EFF left out the most important part. Not only is it our right of the people to alter and abolish a government that is destructive to the end of freedom, individualism, etc. it is our duty!!!!!

6. Jeff B., that is in the EFF video. It is not explicitly in my video, but close enough, because my video did say, "if a government won't give you your basic rights, you better get another government."

Pretty radical for children's network television. OTOH, it was the 70s.

7. Renton outlawed all fireworks a year or two ago too. And the worst part about it is that it was a ballot issue. It wasn't even intrusive bureaucrats. The people here seem to think we should be treated as children; not to be trusted with sharp instruments. Disgusting way to celebrate independence.

9. I just watched the air show at the Tacoma Freedom fair. Add jets and using jet fuel to the list of things that frustrate Progressives and are great additions to the 4th.

10. Jeez Pudge; you remind me of an uncle I used to have who would take any opportunity to drop everything, pull out his ukulele and burst into song. enough of the music already... I like your politics but amateur folk music is so Democrat and really pushing it. Where did all the flowers go, anyway?
