Clown of the Day: Dow Constantine and Larry Phillips
King County government intends to spend $70 million more next year than it thinks it can vacuum out of our pockets.

Councilmen Constantine and Phillips are responding to this self-inflicted crisis of excess generosity with other people's money by hosting a Town Hall Meeting on "creating a green economy".

Now, a conference on economic development featuring investors, entrepreneurs and eager customers who are ready to create business but for unnecessary county red-tape is one thing. But this "new economy" which "will create enormous new opportunities" and "spur new investment" is driven by the animal spirits of "leaders from the labor, education, civil rights, and environmental communities".

It should be obvious that this will never amount to anything other than some elaborate performances for suckers and some elaborate cash payments to the various Patronage-American communities.

But we thank Constantine and Phillips for giving us a good chuckle. Cue the music.

1. P.T. Barnum would be proud. How many more suckers will King County birth?

2. This Clown of the Day thng is a really lame segment. I fear SoundPolitics is becoming a caricature of itself. Why don't you start giving out Shrammies or something too?

Guys, please. Get a handle on this blog. It is becoming gimicky!

3. @2, there's one more sucker now.

Sounds like Juvenal has set off someone from the party of tolerance and diversity. Don't clowns have a voice too?.

4. Labor, educational, environmental and civ rights might be known for certain things, but among them is not economic development.

5. If any of it was worth doing, our capitalist market system would have done it by now. The fact it hasn't is a dead giveaway that none of those pie in the sky ideas is worth the carbon credits it would take to roll them up and smoke em. Meanwhile Harry Reid has news for you...

The Democrats are perfectly happy with high energy prices. Don't expect any relief from them. It's funny how every Democrat from the top down to these two shmucks is pushing this phony false solution to the energy price problem.

6. If I hear one more person utter the phrase "green-collar job" I am going to hurl. Where are these environmentally friendly jobs supposed to come from? More government handouts? Yeah, that'll stimulate the economy.

7. Years ago, Larry Phillips came once or twice to 36th LD Republican events, when invited, in Magnolia. He always seemed fairly reasonable. Yes, he's liberal. Yes, he's a clown. But he's MUCH better than Ron Sims, for what it's worth.

8. You know I think I'm going to give myself a Sound Politics No-Prize for accurately calling these lousy "Clown of the Day" awards...

From June 26...

"Well not to upstage a fellow poster here. Maybe we can just spare the effort and fast forward through the next 47 Clown of the Day Awards?

Jim McDermott, Frank Chopp, Jay Inslee, Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell, Rosie O'Donnell, John Ladenburg, Darcy Burner, Ron Sims, David Goldstein, Insane Clown Posse, Sam Reed, Greg Nickels, Nick Licata, Dow Constantine, Joel Connely, Dan Savage, Margarita Prentice, Bill Huennekens, WEA, Critical Mass, Bill O'Reilly, Rodney Tom, Clay Bennett, Herschel the Sea Lion, The guy that operates the Rouge River draw bridge in Delray on Jefferson, Adam Smith, Dwight Pelz, Barack Obama, Al Gore, J.P. Patches, George Soros, Effin Unsound, Sound Transit, Gil Kerlikowski, Richie Sexson, Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Fred Jarrett, Bob Ferguson, Dean Logan, Pam Roach, Rick Larsen, KUOW Gang of Four, John Edwards, Larry Phillips and Dave Matthews."

Let's see...

Phillips. Check. Constantine. Check.

To increase interest maybe we should start a betting pool on who is next. My money is on Burner at 5-1 odds.

9. #7: Thanks, AD, maybe I'll vote for Phillips. I don't know much about him except that he's part of King County democrat establishment (which isn't a high recommend), but thought he might be a slight improvement over Sims. This new voting process might at least yield us more moderate/reasonable dems (there are a FEW out there), which is an improvement over what we have now.

10. In my opinion the clown of the day feature has run it's course. Surely there's a better way to get your point across, this has become lame.

14. Dedicated to all the clown naysayers:

"Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear,
I thought that you'd want what I want,
Sorry my dear
But where are the clowns
There ought to be clowns
Quick send in the clowns"

Maybe SP could adopt this as a sort of promotional jingle. : )

16. I'm a fan of this blog, but this clown thing is the worst thing this site has done. Really.

When you have one of your own contributors denigrating it, it's time to stop.

18. County Budget

The county council have stated there is a $70M budget crises to have cuts in courts and law enforcement. Renton Reporter

I was surprised of the opinion of Judy Patterson about the county budget crisis on what happened to cause this budget crisis? Patterson and the county council continually are using initiatives that where passed by the people like initiative 747 for the problems with the county budget. Sims and the county council are not listening to the county residents when the people pass these initiatives including the downsizing of the county council from thirteen (13) to nine (9) and they continued spending like there is no tomorrow and are still doing it today. With all the annexations where unincorporated county properties are going into the cities, The county should have known there would be a loss of revenue to the county and the county has failed to adjust accordingly. The county should make the adjustments that are needed to balance a budget with the revenues being received. The public voted to downsize the county council now it's time for the county council to step up to the plate and downsize to seven (7) council members.

Whenever the County wants to build a park, repair levees, foot ferries service, funding human-services, provide basic services like courts, 911 and Medic one or anything that should be taken care of by the regular tax revenues. Its call a crisis so we have to have a special levy to fund the crisis or the county council just raises taxes.

But when the County wants to rename itself, change the logo, build a new executive building, Ron Sim's rails-to-trails on the east side, elections building, or house Sims at the top of the bank building, well, the money is always there to spend. No special levy needed.

The county council is trying to put the fear in the people and are in the process of putting together a tax package to the vote on in November to fix their need to spend. Let see how it plays out.

20. The Bush Administration has been funding hydrogen, nanotech and other true 21st century technologies that will actually improve productivity and the economy.

Of course, since we are ruled by people who are not tied into the mainstream, I see almost nothing in these arenas going on in Washington.

Where is the real cutting edge technology? Not here. Nope...

21. Re #2, 10, 16 19 ...the only alternative I can think of would be Moron of the Day... but a picture of Darcy or Goldy would not be universally recognizable ...and they don't have a song.

22. Well, NS, we get that you're all whiney because the clown-feature typical bitch-smacks those you admire so much.

Here's a clue for you: If you don't like it... then don't read it. You can always go back to hanging out with your heroes at HA and Kos, instead of doing everything you can to defend Queen Chrissy's tribal corruption.

23. Since this is about clowns, I haven't seen Cato around here in awhile. Did he get banned, or just tired of having Ragnar beat up on him? : ) Anyone know?

24. Cato disappeared at the same time his enabler, WVH, disappeared.... coincidence?... or just sheer good luck?? :)

30. KEEP THE CLOWN SEGMENT. It's great humor relief. But curses to Don Ward for putting JP Patches on his list. To lump him in with clowns like these is BLASPHEMY to honorable clowns.
