Gov's Race on The Next Right

For those interested, I have a post up at The Next Right summarizing developments in our state's race for Governor that we've already discussed here at Sound Politics in recent days.

1. If this race were non-partisan Dino would be walking away with it.

As it is, Gregoire is left with saying "Vote for me because I'm the Democrat.". The unpopularity of the Republicans has not been because the voters suddenly have all become good progressives but rather because the Republicans performed very badly during the 2005-2006 cycle and have only improved to performing badly recently (i.e. "very badly" becomes "badly") on the national level.

But Dino has nothing to do with the poor Republican national performance and Republicans completely out-of-power have nothing to do with the problems at the state level. I expect the voters will figure that out and send CG packing. Remember that historically Washington has shown itself capable of voting for one party for president and another for governor: 1984, 1976, 1968, 1964, 1960, 1956.

More voters in this state are Independents than the Democrats would care to admit. I don't think they will respond well to "Vote for me because I'm the Democrat" or that Rossi is responsible for everything Bush has done. I think the Democrats generally might be getting a little carried away with blaming everything on Bush.
