State Senator Val Stevens Decries Burning of Campaign Signs

Senator Val Stevens (R-39) has sent out a press release, with pictures, about her campaign signs being set on fire in Skagit County.

She is the incumbent being challenged by Fred Walser, who was convicted and sentenced to a year in jail this month. There is no reason to think his campaign had anything to do with these crimes.

1. It looks like the campaign sign thing is getting out of hand everywhere.

2. That is ugly.

3. I've had my Val Stevens sign broken 4 times now. I doubt that it is just kids.

4. We had some on our street spray-painted.

I won't say this reflects on Walser at all, but SOME of Val's political enemies have absolutely no respect for deceny, integrity, freedom of speech, liberty, and so on.

5. Why should they, pudge? Her enemies have been pummeling her for years now as evil incarnate. With this unfair pummeling, you should expect kids of bad parents or bad people feeling they have some sort of perverted right to destroy others' property.

6. But what about the Carbon?

7. Well, swatter, liberals believe they have a right to seize private property, i.e., our incomes, so it doesn't surprise me they think they have a right to destroy a yard sign.

8. No reason beyond cui bono, of course. Who benefits?

9. Remember which party was up to the same kind of tricks in 2004. Slashing tires, keying cars with political bumper stickers, tearing down campaign signs, etc.

When one believes in the ideology of the collective, then it's only natural for one to feel that conservatives have no right to any say at all. Hence actions like this, or the more formal equivalent, Democrat Senators trying to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.

When one believes in socialism, there is no need for the competition of ideas. It's simply DO AS THEY SAY.

10. We in 230 odd years have become the country we were formed to get away from.

It is high time for a Boston Tea party again!

11. I've had Republican signs stolen from my property a couple of times here in Kenmore, I have since stopped posting them. I got a big Rossi one for the guy down the street one year but it didn't last but a week. I had somebody take the magnetic Rossi sticker right off the back of my van. Signs around here that support GOP candidates are always knocked down or taken a few days after they are installed. Of course, spray painting of GOP signs is pretty common too. Ripping Bush sign in half was a pastime last election.

I have yet to see the same things happen en mass to Democrat signs and doubt that I ever will. If memory serves me I did see a couple of Democrat supporting signs knocked over once but nothing like what is happening at every election to any sign that belongs to a GOP candidate.

That being said, the left through history has a grand tradition of intimidation, maiming and yes, even killing, to further their leftist/Marxist ambitions. These vandalism things are less harmless physically but they contribute to the same sense of harassment and paranoia. A drubbing in the night is the next step. Bring on the brown shirts.

Speaking of drubbing, I remember a little old lady holding an anti Clinton (ver. Bill 1.0) sign during a demonstration at a Democrat rally getting knocked down by a union thug supporting Clinton. So you see, violence is always just under the surface.

The leftists must resort to violence, intimidation and lies to gain votes, because if they REALLY said what their agenda was, nobody would elect them.

There is a reason it is against the law to vandalize campaign signs, because it is stifling of free speech. But than again look who's pushing the "fairness doctrine".

12. Leave the signs alone, dems.

I remember back in '96 here on the Plateau my Craswell signs didn't last 10 minutes. Crazy. In 2000, I had a big 4x8 Bush sign out back that kept getting thrown to the side, cut up, etc. and I kept repairing it and putting it back up. The democrats who did it are shocking in their tackiness.

13. You think this is bad, wait until the McCain signs start disappearing as we get closer to November...that is if you're brave enough to display one knowing there will be repercussions in doing so.

Liberal fascism is alive and well in the Seattle area.

14. I hope to hell Wasler challenges Val on blocking shared parenting.

Though Wasler would be a terrible replacement, Val has got to go.

15. Andy:

I don't care what disagreements you have with Val. Walser is a convict who has repeatedly lied and covered up and has shown absolutely no propensity for truth or integrity.

That's a lot more important than one Senator's view on shared parenting, which Stevens would not be able to block, and Walser would not be able to make happen.
