Gregoire as Kossack
So, Governor Gregoire has a post up at Daily Kos, which in the manner of such campaign communications was probably written by her staff.
In and of itself, such attempts to communicate with one's base are not particularly relevant. Two points jump out, however.
1) Gregoire repeats the Democratic mantra that "the BIAW is the most powerful special interest lobby in Washington."
To which I repeat my exit question from this post:
Could someone explain how a business group, aligned with conservative points of view and vilified by the left-of-center MSM, is so supposedly powerful in a state government completely dominated by Democrats?
2) If an enterprising reporter asked such a question, Gregoire would probably bemoan the distorting influence of this "special interest lobby."
Would she say the same about the well-endowed group of special interests lining up to aid her campaign? They're likely to be as hard-hitting toward Dino Rossi as BIAW is toward her. Will that be "rock bottom" once again in this campaign when they inevitably come out swinging?
Moreover, that Democratic PAC has a somewhat astounding $1,111,418 in contributions already reported to the PDC as of this typing so one would bet we should have ample opportunity to find out how Gregoire responds to such questions.

1. Wake up, Gregoire---the left-leaning teacher's union is where the power's at in Oly. Plus the public employee union, and apparenly the state's tribes.
I gotta laugh--if ONLY the BIAW really were as powerful as she imagines it to be. If only.
2. If the WA GOP had any sense, they'd have a press release out tomorrow educating WA voters about what the DailyKos is, with a nice review of the typical hate filled aggressive comments made at that site.
And then they would mention: Guess who blogs at DailyKos? Chris Gregoire.
3. The Republican leadership needs to get out of the board rooms, off the golf courses, and do their job in responding to this.
Anything else and they are worse than the left.
Will they?
Not holding my breath.
Did anyone else notice the gays marching in the streets while carrying the Republican' gonads in a sack?
4. I wish the BIAW was 1/10 as powerful as the monopoly slave unions.
IV, I agree. The GOP in this state is pathetic. It is beyond time that we grassroots wrangle control over it. Enough being the Democrat-lite minority party for eternity. Sorry Doug & Chris Vance, it is time for you two to become Democrats with the rest of the statists destroying our party and brand.
5. As if in answer to the kos, the Times finally ran their piece today on the democrat special interests and how it pays to support the gov - especially when the counting is behind.
6. "...the pot calling the kettle..." er...um...(can we still use that phrase? or is it now punishable hate speech?)
3--5 sadly, I agree 100%; pathetic; 4 hits it on head; like a suicidal guy standing on tracks--dazed by the train's light--can't move--won't move; feels helpless;
7. Last week the Governor spoke at the AWC (Association of Washington Cities) a meeting attended by Mayors, City Managers and Councilmembers from all over the State. Do you think any of them asked her about this? No. Did the press ask her about it? No. The people need to take the lead on this situation, vote her out in November, send a message, Washington not for sale.
8. If there were any enterprising reporters, Nickels, Sims and Gregoire would have found them a cushy 160k a year job testing the flavor of eco friendly hot chocolate with an employment clause that they don't do any "reporting" on the side.
Sorry Robert Mak- you are a big fat sell out.
9. "...the BIAW is the most powerful special interest lobby in Washington."
No, I'd say the Democratic Party is the most influencial special interest group in Washington State.
10. "the BIAW is the most powerful special interest lobby in Washington." BIAW is childs play compared to the WEA. Get a grip, Queenie.
11. #3: Please stop with the foolish comments. You say your independent, sure, You wait for a majority to form then vote with the left. I support Dino Rossi and I contribute to his campaign. I call my reps and email. When was the last time you contributied to anything but third parties (votes for dems). You vote for dems. Get a backbone and stop calling yourself "INDEPENDENT" yeah right. If you don't like the way things are then vote against the party (democrate/socialist) who has been running this state for 30 plus years. Stop holding your breath and campaign against that party and get in line with Dino.
12. Did anyone catch the front page story in the TIMES today? Seems like they finally got the message that not mentioning a story like this, no matter who "broke" it, makes them look foolish. I am sure that Postman with his cozy access to the Governor will not write a critical word about her. He has others at the paper write the unpleasant truth about his dirty Democratic buddies.
13. The BIAW is just small potatoes compared to the Boeing, union lobbies, WEA and a myriad of other organizations.
What hurts Gregoire is the BIAW is most effective because the issues they take on have legs. Gregoire and others don't want and don't expect to be challenged- read Reed, Evans, Gorton and others. When they do get challenged, they often win.
The BIAW to the consternation of ivan and the rest of the union lobby represents more 'blue collar' workers than they do. They represent the rest of us working stiffs who don't have the "no fire" and high bennie jobs of traditional union work. The BIAW represents those who work for a living and if the members don't work, the members are out of work and go home.
Yes, of all of us, the BIAW represents us better than any other group, but, are they the most influential? If that were only true.
14. To the Gov, the BIAW is special interest, since they don't back her and the dems....the WEA isn't "special" it is THE Interest group...not special in anyway. Just the folks she has to do stuff for....the problem I can't wait to see is when the WEA and the Tribes are on different sides of an issue...then watch out!
16. Eric,
Believe it or not, I agree with you on this one. The power of the BIAW does not compare to the power of the state's law enforcement union and groups like MADD who have been given a pass by Democrats for far too long.
17. ..and I agree--the Rs need to point out that Gregoire is seeking support on hate sites like KOS, which refer to our military finest as "idiots" and worse. That she wishes to be associated with such a hate site reveals much about her.
18. Why even go to KOS? Unless your into nothing but %$#$@!#$%+^&$#$# words.
19.
Christine Gregoire is like an errant wife who wants to break her husband. What does she do? She uses up the family checking account on needless expenses like Brightwater and 2 Billion dollar Light Rail. She gives it away to cronies who will sympathize with her. She drags the name of her husband in the street and castigates him to all those who will listen.
The sad thing is: The husband is us...the citizens of Washington.
20. You totally miss the point.
