Shut up! Women teachers told their constant talking puts boys off school work
"No, honey, of course it doesn't apply to you. I just thought it was interesting..."

Since Joanie and I are both female teachers, this looked like a good thread to respond to.
That article is very true in many ways. As teachers, we need to stay current on research that lets us reflect on how we do our jobs. Over the years, I have noticed that a lot of my boys like to stand up while writing or reading, and last month I saw an article that said a lot of boys learn better that way. So it doesn't surprise me in the least that they overload on verbal communication as well. Good teachers try to see a room full of individuals with different needs, rather than a group that needs to be "managed" and expected to adapt to whatever the teacher's style is. Fortunately, this is being addressed more and more in teacher courses to help them recognize the differences in how boys and girls learn.
I am not sure I agree that mom's should not "interfere" with their son's lives, unless they are referring to nagging, and even daughters do not like that!
Interesting stuff!
Now, I realize that Puget and Duffman will say that because I did not come "fight" with you, that I did not pass their "test." However, based on what I have read of their posts here and the replies to them, I will just consider the source.
Have a great weekend!

Posted by: Eric Earling on June 21, 2008 11:45 AMIf you don't like obscenity, this is a pretty nice blog to come over and chat on. Could your views get challenged now and then? Sure. But not with disgusting obscenity and gratuitously cruel cuts in the tradition of HA. Far from it.
That's one of the reasons I keep coming here.
Posted by: Michele on June 21, 2008 01:00 PMThanks Michele...I don't know how often I can post here as my plate is rather full here at home. I don't mind potty mouth, but not being able to prove one's point without accusing others of being drunks/idiots/nuh-uh/uh-HUH/wicked, blah blah blah is quite annoying.
