In a classic case of hiring for experience and relationships, even when performance doesn't merit the move, former Hillary Clinton campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle is now a top member of Barack Obama's campaign team.
Ironically, Solis Doyle was widely viewed from the beginning of this race as a first rate Hillary Clinton loyalist, not a top tier campaign professional. Moreover, she will forever be remembered in political campaign histories as second only to Mark Penn in bearing responsibility for the Clinton strategy that ignored caucus states after Iowa and Nevada, while failing to prepare for major February contests after Super Tuesday. That is not an insignificant issue given that Obama built his decisive pledged delegate lead in those exact two categories of primary contests.
Yet however she started this campaign season, her hiring is now being interpreted as a slap at the Clinton camp - complete with profane outbursts in response - given the now strained ties between Solis Doyle and Team Clinton.
Weird, even before one considers she was hired to be the prospective VP nominee's chief of staff. Crazy idea: shouldn't the VP nominee themselves be able to pick said senior staff position?
