Ladenburg vs. McKenna

The award for best story lede of the week has to go to the Seattle P-I and its coverage of the Washington state Attorney General race.

"While John Ladenburg was in San Diego for the U.S. Open last week, watching some of the country's best golfers take swings at golf balls, he was taking some swings of his own at state Attorney General Rob McKenna, setting the tone early for a campaign designed to create a hard-hitting image for a candidate barely known outside his own Pierce County."

That would be friend of the working man, John Ladenburg.

Words of advice to John for his future electoral runs, Torrey Pines is probably not the ideal location to issue campaign proclamations of any sort particularly if one wants to connect to the average Washington voter.

Maybe the out-going Pierce County Executive can criticize McKenna's lack of courtroom experience while wind-surfing on the Columbia River and the fact that the incumbent AG has only won two cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Since all reporters should now emulate the journalism ethics of the late Tim Russert it is safe to conclude Ladenburg's run for Attorney General is now over and he has no chance to win. Time to report the story as such.

1. I live about three miles from the stupid golf course Ladenburg managed to hoodwink Pierce County into building. I would have much rather had open space with walking trails rather than some snooty golf course!

Most people in Pierce County can't aford to play a round there. So much for the "friend of the working man" crap.

2. Ladenburg has been in Pierce County politics for a long time and has always been a loose canon. Not afraid of new ideas but most have been bad and costly. Hardly a good fit for the AG office.

3. But speaking of Torrey Pines, that was some playoff today between Woods and Mediate.

4. Played Chambers Bay yesterday, love the course, but I will be voting for McKenna for AG.

That Tiger & Rocco match was one for the ages!

By the way Torrey Pines is a muni where the working man can get on.

AFY!!

6. There are some serious gaps in consumer protection and public protection. Both candidates would do well to focus on the 90% of people who are being harmed by:

1) False and misleading advertising ( Internet for $20 a month (fine print...$50)

2) Renters rights. As the housing market crumbles and Puget Sound builds, more and more people opt to rent. Yet there are zero rights for renters. Not everyone, even Republicans, are sitting around on the 5 acres in Black Diamond that Grand Pappy homesteaded way back when.

And so on...the Puget Sound is one gigantic hustle and ripoff. We need someone to fight for everyone and send the bad guys back down to California.

7. John,

I just filed a consumer complaint regarding false advertising. Turns out a national tools chain sells engine stands advertising "easily move the engine around on the wheels", yet the owner's manual says "Do not move the stand around under load. The wheels were not designed for it."

So far the AG's office has been very responsive. It is one easy online form to complete.

8. I will be voting for McKenna for AG
Go to his site and register and donate.

Dino's site is harder to donate because the form FILL does not operate so it is a hassel to donate on line for Dino for Gov.

9. Rob McKenna is the only legitimate choice. This state needs Rob McKenna for serving the people for now and in the future.

10. On the one hand his opponent excoriates McKenna for "doing so little for consumers" (the AG who won the multimillion dollar anti spam case that was followed nationally by the press) and on the other hand says McKenna "grabs headlines". Yer spammed if ya do and yer spammed if you don't with this guy. Go to that web page above now and donate to McKennas campaign. He's done a GREAT job for Washington, the other guy is "Change" we DON'T need.

11. For those who don't know yet...

The TNT just announced that Ladenburg hired Chambers Bay Course designer to raise money for Ladenburg. Robert Trent-Jones Jr. will appear at a private fundraiser for Ladenburg at Chambers Bay Golf Course Thursday night. Suggested contribution: $250 per Guest, $500 for VIP.

13. Also- the TNT failed to mention an interesting tidbit on this fund raiser invitation. A door prize is a "free" foursome. So who's paying for the door prize offered? The campaign? The developer? The County/ taxpayer owned course? ( and how much did the developer make off the Chambers design project?)
Waiting for the LRI/McCatchy/LeMay supporters to host their John L party....but maybe their waiting for the landfill contract to be signed first.
Ahhh folks, I'd much rather have McKenna stay where he's at than the future under a John L reign.

14. Oops- meant designer not developer- Sorry!

15. Though I almost always vote GOP will not be voting for dear old Rob due to his early support of McCain. Hope Dino never appears with McCain or that vote could be gone as well.

And when is McCain going to cross the aisle and try and woo us GOP voters?
