Happier News Story of the Day

Ron Judd's Olympics blog covers Spokane recently landing the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and Olympic Trials. A nice get for "the Kan" and a forbearer of other such stories in the coming months related to world class athletes coming to the state to train and compete in advance of the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.

1. Why do they call it 'figure' skating? Do they even do 'figures' any more...we never get to see that part (if they do)? W/be sort of like watching paint dry I guess. Well any way - good for Spokane...'bout time the other part of our wonderful State got some recognition. :)

3. Bring back Tonya Harding and I'll tune in just to witness the train wreck.

4. After maxing out on local, State, and Federal political races this year, it will be nice to look forward to an Olympic ''sports break'' for the Winter Games across our northern border.

WA should get some benefit (I guess) from ''spill-over''; i.e.: The Vancover BC organizers are predicting 5500 athletes and officials and 10,000 media reps for the 17 days that the Winter Games will be in session. Opening cerimonies are only 15 months away.....

The Winter Games are of special interest here in the Methow Valley, since one of my neighbor's kids who recently graduated from college has a real shot at making the US Nordic Ski Team. A bunch of us locals would like to go up and see him compete, but I wonder if it will be possible to find even a semi-decent place to stay for less than $400 or whatever a night.....

5. #4: I think you meant "Opening ceremonies are only 21 months away...." (February 2010)
