Gov Race News

There will be more to say about the previously discussed record-fundraising hauls being compiled by Dino Rossi and Christine Gregoire once the reports covering April are filed in the coming days. In the meantime, it's worth noting that the Rossi campaign today announced it's 30,746th donor, already surpassing Rossi's total number of donors in 2004. This before the political season in Washington state really heats up.

More evidence we're heading into an unprecedented political contest for the Evergreen State.

1. See Dino award this honor to these people and what they think about this current regime. Her husband really tells it like we feel it.

2. Wow.

This could easily break per-capita spending records NATIONALLY if it keeps going at this rate.

Do you know how many people are new donors?

Posted by: Cliff on May 5, 2008 10:14 PM
3. 62% are new to the campaign and were not donors last time.

4. Go, Dino!

5. Between the race 4 Guv, polls showing that McCain will have a shot at winning WA (who woulda thunk it), and the usual smattering of legislative and local races:

Between now and the General Election, expect we can look forward to maximum saturation of political ads in both print and electronic media. Confess the thought of another 6 months of that is enough to make one part of me want to lock the gate to my place out in the woods, disconnect the satellite link, and turn off my wireless router.... on the other hand:
This could get really interesting; at both the state and national level.

6. It's going to be a lot of fun watching our local Progressives sweat as the general population of voters gets to compare Dino Rossi's charisma to that of Gregoire. But I accidentally implied she has some.

7. Wow that is a lot of donors. I will donate when I hear his first proposal to elliminate a department. That is what gives his budget cutting claims some substance.

8. I love the over-enthusiastic perception of this and the apparent 'wishful thinking'. A caveat would be wise as an infamous 'pastor' once said (in so many words) 'don't count your chickens 'till they come home to roost'.
Mr Rossi, it's not too late to gracefully pull out of this thing and save yourself some embarassment. You were forewarned Sir Dino; proceed at your own risk. :)

ps: 'Come on Hillary' make my (& your) day today in Ind and NC !

9. '..Dino Rossi's charisma..'

HUH??? ...'you serious Clark' lol :) [is that the 'ultimate' oxymoron...or what...]

10. This is shaping up to be a good year for a new face Republican to run for the legislature. Ride the coattails of the R frontrunners, so to speak.

11. Let me see. WE could save money in the state by making the payroll easier to handle. THere are 1020 DIfferent Union payroll options. Thats right you need a computer to figure out the payroll and who gets what. You have both a level and a step payroll. The non representative employees have a differnt payscale lower than union paid employees. also 1020 different payrates.
BUt it gets better if you are a teamster you get even higher pay and they have 1020 different Pay rates. And this is just for General Service Salary choices.
There are L Range, N1 Range, N2 Range(Teamsters Only) SP Range and T Range. who knows which departments have set up these special rates for their agencies. SO a total 9 different pay schedules two are available for non union members. All others are union only payscales.
Just so you know Steps are years working in GOvernment. If you want to see the pay scales on July 1, 2007 when everyone got a +3.2 pay raise for union. Nothing listed for what pay rate increase for non union if they even got a pay raise. Unknown because all union payscales give raise amounts.
I wonder what the pay scales will be in July 2008.

12. Looks like Rossi was a special guest on the "Morons In The Morning" show on 99.9fm from about 8:30 to 9am. Took a whole one question...some guy yapping about how people perpetrate fraud.

In the end Rossi promised a lot of change and lied about Gregoire proposing a state income tax, and thoroughly enjoyed all the ass-kissing and the low brow humor the "Morons In The Morning" are known for.

Rossi, just another politician promising lots of things he cannot provide.

13. Between the race 4 Guv, polls showing that McCain will have a shot at winning WA

Maybe you failed to notice the vast difference in numbers between the turnout for the Dem Caucuses vs the GOP Caucuses.

Looking forward to the McCain/Clinton ticket this fall. =)

14. David, sounds like you were trying to read the Prevailing Wages for the State or the Davis-Bacon wages or the union job scale. I challenge an accountant to understand all the ranges.

15. #9: You mean you thought Christine Gregoire had charisma?

Posted by: Michele on May 6, 2008 11:55 AM
16. #15 :)...certainly more than Sir Dino. She's lovely and gracious and comes across more telegenic than Rossi. Rossi reminds me of a puppet that has been wound up to recite a spiel...and don't let any interruptions interfere with that spiel...because he doesn't have detailed answers. If there was ANY hope of him having a chance before, he killed that by his latest transportation illusion.
As an astute politician, Mr Rossi is a decent family and business man...nothing more, nothing less. But DO continue to put your faith in him and prepare for a big disappointment. The Republican cast of characters is slim to non-existant in this State; I think there are more qualified folks on this blog than are in the fray for Republican office. :)

17. Rossi, just another politician promising lots of things he cannot provide.

Let's just assume for a second you are right.

It would STILL make sense to vote for Dino. Gregoigre has proven she can't do anything. I'd rather take a chance with someone who may not be able to do anything then vote for someone who has proven she can't do anything.

18. I'd rather take a chance with someone who may not be able to do anything then vote for someone who has proven she can't do anything.

If she's done nothing then why are all the conservatives complaining about her budget increases and children's health coverage program. not to mention the Plan B controversy?

Obliviously she's done something or you would have nothing to whine about. I plan on sticking with her rather than the guy who wants to build roads with magical money that he'll pull out of the air and teach the myth of Creationism as hard science.

19. 13, Why would a Rupublican drive to a poll when they have had a candidate for months. DUH

Other than of course to vote for a democrat just for the fun of Rush's Chaos of course.

20. Gregoire telegenic?! - Ha! Hide the children if she is on HDTV or they will be having nightmares.

21. Dear chrissy FYI, babe.

Posted by: Ragnar Danneskjold on May 6, 2008 10:48 PM
22. Rags,

1. The moniker Ragnar Danneskjold comes from the name of a character in Atlas Shrugged. Atlas Shrugged was written by that very, very, very interesting lady, Ms. Rand. This is what she said:

I cannot project the degree of hatred required to make those women run around in crusades against abortion. Hatred is what they certainly project, not love for the embryos, which is a piece of nonsense no one could experience, but hatred, a virulent hatred for an unnamed object...Their hatred is directed against human beings as such, against the mind, against reason, against ambition, against success, against love, against any value that brings happiness to human life. In compliance with the dishonesty that dominates today's intellectual field, they call themselves 'pro-life.'
-- Ayn Rand

http://www.abortionisprolife.com/

So, Rags, as a Catholic, do you support Ms. Rand's philosophy?

2. Perhaps you have some quote which indicates that Governor Gregoire is FOR abortion. I cerainly have not seen such a quote. My understanding is that Christians of ALL denominations excercise free will in the choice of chosing the Christian faith.

Unfortunately, whether it is legal or not, women excericise free will in the choice of whether to carry a child to term. They have to be persuaded to do that if their life circumstances lead them to believe that the choice is not possible. Now this is what Ms.Rand said about altruism:

If any civilization is to survive, it is the morality of altruism that men have to reject."
Ayn Rand quotes (Russian born American Writer and Novelist, 1905-1982)

http://thinkexist.com/quotes/with/keyword/altruism/

So, how is this philosophy going to persuade women to carry their child to term?

3. Rand had an interesting view of Catholicism:

"Curiously, Rand's principal interest in religion appears to be Roman Catholicism. She devotes two essays to papal encyclicals. In "Of Living Death," she critiques Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae (which opposed artificial contraception) and in "Requiem for Man" she critiques his Populorum Progressio (a discussion of economics). While non-Catholic religions generally don't have equivalents to papal encyclicals, this attention given the Roman Catholic Church is noteworthy. Rand went so far as to blame the existence of American laws against abortion (which she opposed) on the Roman Catholic Church, even though such laws predated the arrival of large number of Catholic immigrants by decades. [Rand, VOR, p. 59; Robbins, WAP, p. 208.]

Rand's focus on Catholicism likely stems from a belief that Catholicism is the principal opponent of reason and capitalism. Because she had a certain respect for Catholicism's leading philosopher, Thomas Aquinas (who attempts to integrate faith and reason) Catholicism constituted the greatest threat. In "Requiem for Man" she sees Catholicism as the principal rival to communism:
Today, Catholicism and communism may well cooperate, on the premise that they will fight each other for power later, but must first destroy their common enemy, the individual, by forcing mankind to unite to form one neck-ready for one leash. [Rand, CUI, p. 316.]

http://rebirthofreason.com/Articles/Parille/Ayn_Rand,_Objectivism,_and_Religion_(Part_1_of_4).shtml

You must be doing some real mental yoga to be both a Rand clone and a Catholic.

4. I would be interested in any quote you know of that Governor Gregoire is FOR abortion. I believe she is for the legal status quo. Most people I know are not FOR abortion, but other alternatives, like adoption. Still, the woman will excercise her free will, whether abortion is legal or not. It is up to people of faith to persuade them there are other alternatives.
