Fruit of the Top 2 Primary

It's already starting to take shape: serious Democratic competition for what now should otherwise be viewed as a safe Democratic seat.

Partisan preferences and this specific race aside, the infusion of new blood and brainpower into Olympia has to be viewed as a good thing at this juncture. If there is one thing that remains consistently jarring to newer folk in the state capital, it is discovering the stark difference between what it often takes to get elected versus what it takes to serve in the Legislature with skill and effectiveness.

1. This may turn out to be a good thing for the Republicans...in the 27th district this type of a vote would put Homeless vs. Gay Rights...Transvestite Lesbians vs. Public Health ...WTA vs. Marijuana Rights...Higher Taxes vs. Even Higher Taxes...Sound Transit vs. Bicycle Rights...Light the Bridge vs. Illegal (Sorry Undocumented) aliens...Save our Schools vs. Save our Parks...Reparation Parks vs. NAACP...

The list just goes on, instead of one Demo-rat compromise candidate it could turn into a free-for-all, and at least a load of laughs!

2. The 21st LD used to be a pretty reliable Republican district. At least until the current decade. How things have changed!

The GOP now even has trouble finding sacrificial lamb candidates in the 21st LD and most of the rest of Snohomish County.

3.
You had me until "Bicycle Rights".

Safe Streets for Youth and the freedom to walk and pedal without Meth Addicts running me down is a good issue for Republicans.

4. Richard, your bemoaning the fact that "things have changed!" kind of makes me worry you think there has been an actual change in politics, not just demographics. Young urban professionals with liberal guilt used to live exclusively in Seattle, but now, like a cancer, they're spreading north/south/east. That's the main change.

So, democrats moved into the district. No big whoop. Just because you're a party switcher doesn't mean everyone else is. :)
