"Drop Dead, Colombia"
So describes the Washington Post's editorial board's befuddled view of the approach by Congressional Democrats to the Colombian trade deal.
Dave Reichert has recently tried to push the measure (saying more here).
Meanwhile, we hear from Democrats in our traditionally pro-free trade Congressional delegation...
...veritable crickets.
UPDATE: Those crazy conservatives at the San Francisco Chronicle opine on "Trade pandering" as well.

1. I would have to say that (to me), Mrs Pelosi has been a severe disappointment, don't care what flavor she is!
2. And all we were asking is to make the trade agreement permanent. The existing agreement has been in effect for 17 years.
And yet, we have our D politicians and whacko Jollywood types troop over to Chavez and Castro to trumpet their Human Rights dictatorships while they nitpick Columbia's violations, which may be the most pro-US country south of the USA.
Something is whacked with the Democrats and I think people are starting to realize it. Thank you for putting the baby Democrats in charge in DC and Olympia.
3. This is the new Democratic party. Weaken the US at all cost. Cause depression to increase power base. Cause waste and abuse of Power. They do not care of the effects of their actions. It feels good politics instead of thinking through their actions. IE Mercury lightbulbs when they mandidate they be used that can turn a home into a toxic waste dump if you keep breaking them. Let alone the millions of bulbs per year adding them to the land fills. 20Cubic feet of soil to make one bulb below federal mercury standards.
Cause and futures effects are never looked at because it feels good at the moment. Power via Emotion will destroy this country.
Plus they want a recession/depression so they can blame tax cuts as the reason for the recession. Pay more taxes and you will not have a recession where the opposite is true. The more money you take from the people the less available for investment and growth. Why does the US have such a low saving rate. Because they think the Goverment can take care of everyone. Who will pay the taxes as business can no longer hire people because they are not selling anything.
I have seen one favorite pizza joint go out of business in the last few months. THere a dozen or more part time jobs gone. Rising food prices is the root cause I wonder why that is happening. GOvernment regulations and demands to spend money to use food to make fuel. Increasing the cost of both items.
4. ..must be almost time to pack up eh, David? BUH-bye!
5. Whatever it is, it's all the liberals' fault, right, David? No flies on you, eh, David? What a putz.
6. WOW Dave, I think you hit a sore spot with the libs. (-:
7. Goes to show- Democrats just want to get elected and will do anything and say anything to get elected. They are not concerned about consequences of their ME first attitudes or what happens when they do get elected, or in Gregoire's case, selected.
8. No one is perfect but many of the problems in the US can be solved by GOvernment getting out of the way. The anti business climate in Washington State. Who is the top job provider in the state. The State of course.
Businesses being fined by rules unelected officials add to the books and the Governors do not want to sign on that they agree with these fines and new regulations.
Free trade helps but I guess Washington state should close it ports. We want to be isolated from the world. No good in or out. Here is a country that is fighting terrorists funded by another GOvernment. Plus these same so called freedom fighters are drug dealers. So you do not want to have free trade to help a government that is supporting the US. Indirectly then you are adding the terrorists and drug dealers that are growing more powerful each year.
You do not want to open the doors to trade and help a country grow stronger so that it can maybe defend it self better without needing us to provide support to finance their military needs. Because now they can afford to better defend themselves.
Calling names makes no difference to me. I see all the actions of the current Democratic leadership wanting to destroy freedoms. Aid Terrorists via calling our troops baby killers. Talk of cutting and running only makes those who are losing to gain hope that if they can kill more people maybe the US will cut and run. The paper tiger. CUt and run means we will never have any allies ever again. Because we will not be trusted. So they should support our enemies and destroy us. That is your idea of a safe life IVAN. No one is perfect but the cause and effect of actions go beyond the feel good emotional moment that the worse laws and rules are put into effect. Who cares if it hurts most people it felt good at the time. Who cares that these required lightbulbs can not be made in the US we have to import every one of them. WHo cares that special interests get major amounts of money send their way. Who cares if it costs 3 to 5 times more to do it a project in one state than the cost to do the same thing in another state or country. How many jobs has Boeing moved to other states or overseas to save money? Who cares it does not affect me so it is not a problem.
But it does affect you. Each actions each extra rule and regulations takes a little more freedom from the people. Takes a little more money so eventually can you live on your salary or do I have to go get two jobs and work 16 hours a day. Work two jobs just to pay my bills. Because the State and Federal government want more and more of my money that I earned. To give to other groups who do not want to work. To fund failing projects that have been failing for decades but the solution is more money not that the idea may be wrong. Look at the way Government spends money. Waste and fraud are not too bad but the Legislature refused to use the Performance audits as a guide for what should be funded and where the state can save money.
That is the problem. Waste and fraud are acceptable. Corruption, SPecial no competition bidding. The list goes on and on.
Hate is not the answer. Your anger will only make problems worse. We need to look hard at what is being done in our names. We need Statesman not political hacks that do only what they are told to do. We need Statesmans that go beyond the political hate the fills the Democrat party in Washington state espicially West Seattle. The hate at saying the Pledge. The hate to attack and destroy people because they do not agree with you. Instead of discussing the situation in a calm manner odds are you hate and run away from the discussion. There are two sides to every issue. IVAN you may be wrong on what you are thinking.
Free Trade is important. It is better than open borders and illegal immigration. Where all the people who can not find work at home come here and use our social services and may even take jobs away from US Citizens. But that is a far different discussion.
REmember always there is a cause and effect for every action. Think through what the end results may be before jumping on the next great emotional ride to feel good.
9. @8
The anti business climate in Washington State.
What color is the sky in your world?

Or are you going to argue that Forbes Magazine is part of the "big government MSM conspiracy?"
10. Looks like YOU are the one being emotional here DAVID. Don't give me this "cut and run" crap when the president YOU support cut and ran from Afghanistan, where the terrorists who attacked us are, and invaded and occupied Iraq looking for weapons of mnass destruction that did not exist.
Do you think the cost of that invasion and occupation has something to do with the state of the economy DAVID?
Your policies are a failure. Your politics are a failure. Your president is a failure. His war is a failure. Your party is a failure, and most especially, CONSERVATISM is a failure.
Does anybody seriously pretend that gasoline would be $4 a gallon if Bush had left Saddam the hell alone and let the UN inspectors do their jobs? We could have bought and sold Saddam ten times over for what this obscene invasion and occupation has cost us.
One more thing. We saluted the flag without incident at our caucus, which was attended by 1,600 people, I'll have you know. So quit making stuff up.
11. most especially, CONSERVATISM is a failure.
Yep. That would explain why your presidential and gubernatorial candidates enjoy double-digit leads.
And why people are just clamoring for higher taxes and union labor.
Oh.
Wait.
Nevermind.
Putz.
12. $4/gallon gas is the invention of the Democrat Party. Their inability to not recognize the increased demand from China and other developing nations, while at the same time, they cap the amount of oil that can be refined by not allowing any more refinery capacity be built.
And then, instead of scaring the bejabbers out of the oil tyrants by threatening to drill in ANWAR or off our coasts, they prevent it.
And ivan, you have proven to be a prideful self-appointed pathological liar in past posts. Why believe anything you say here?
13. Swatter.
Wait, haven't the dem's been screaming for high fuel cost so we would conserve? (Shummer)
Well Ivan, ya got what you wanted... Now your upset about it?
Typical dem/lib
14. I don't think I have ever heard of conservatives at the San Francisco Comical.
15. Ivan's union jobs were the first to go. I hope the state has enough unemployment compensation to pay for all the unemployed worked out of a job now.
16. Possible need some anger management classes added to his unemployment checks.
17. Don't be so hard on Pelosi. She believes in free trade, as long as it involves FARC and the product is cocaine.
18. Yea but your guy!
Political posturing by both sides has been destructive to our country. Did I mention greed? Free trips from lobbyists? Money raising for the next election? Pork barrel spending? No oversight contracts? Family and friends in government? Power mongering? Christ! They all make me crazy!
.
Sorry! I just had to get that off my chest.
19. HappyHeathen - that's why a third party is needed. Show me an industry with an ironclad duopoly, and I will show you bad produces and services at high prices. That's what we have now in politics. Might have worked OK in the past, but it doesn't work now.
20. As a contributor to Darcy Burner's (re)-election campaign, I have a request. Can Rep. Reichert give an unscripted interview about Colombia, trade policy, and his views on both? It would sure save my candidate a lot of money!
21. Tensor #20 I enjoyed your quip about darcy's (re)-election campain.....I didn't know she was running for her old homeowners association job. Good luck to her on that, and I hope she holds the job for more than a few months this time...
22. Actually I beleive she was only a "Fill-in" President who presided over ONE meeting, where she happen to have a photographer for her campaign. It appears her resume was so thin she thought it would fool people into thinking she had some experience if she had pictures of herself looking important at a meeting. She made such a mess of things, she ws never asked back.
Tensor you let us all know when Darcy is going to stray from the script that Nancy and Dwight gives her to read. MoveOn wants something for it's money and they know they will get it with Darcy.
