Re: The Undernews of the Governor's Race

Ok, undernews is interesting. But here is some hard news:

As of PDC reports filed today, covering through the end of March, Dino Rossi reports over $3.8 million in contributions with approximately $2.6 million cash-on-hand. Today the campaign also reported receiving a contribution from its 27,000th donor. 57% of those are new contributors to the campaign - they didn't give in 2004. That's a fascinatingly high ratio.

Rossi's aggregate numbers compare to Gregoire's $4.7 million raised and roughly $2.8 million cash-on-hand. Of course, coming out of her legislative session fundraising freeze she'll receive quite an influx in the near-term as her campaign actively solicits money.

All told, Rossi appears to have done a nice job closing much of the fundraising lead built by the early-starting Gregoire. Moreover, his campaign appears to have built an exceptional base of small-dollar donors who can be tapped further in the coming months. He'll probably need it when state Democrats inevitably unleash on him.

In the meantime, it smells like somebody's base is hungry.

1. Gregoire has been sounding downright snippy in this campaign. She sounds like a woman who's a bit anxious.

Posted by: Michele on April 10, 2008 08:09 PM
2. If you stop to think about it, Dino Rossi was five years old when Christine Gregoire started working in Olympia. Dino is young and vibrant and Christine is old and busted -- a senior citizen. Who is more in touch with the state?

3. Don't discount the angry Sonics fans that will hold Seattle city government AND Queen Christine both responsibile for their favorite sports team changing zip codes.
We've all worked or associated with people who could care less about politics, but can give you the starting roster from Seattle's one (AND ONLY-sorry, WNBA doesn't count) Championship team from 1979. If you listen to sports radio talk these days, the message is clear "Vote Rossi".

Stay tuned sports fans...November is right around the corner.

4. Eric,

Don't forget this story in the background...

Business federation wants Rossi

More than 96 percent of National Federation of Independent Business members in the state have endorsed Dino Rossi for governor.

"Our members have spoken, and they couldn't be more clear or emphatic - they're ready for Dino Rossi to move into the governor's mansion in Olympia," said Troy Nichols, NFIB's Washington state director

Posted by: Glenno on April 10, 2008 08:35 PM
5. But She's Hired thousands of new state government employees to shore up her voting base. Pay em off with fat wages and watch the votes come in!

But I agree and am firmly in the Rosi camp. 4 Years is more than enough of Gregoire!

Posted by: GS on April 10, 2008 09:01 PM
6. Dino Fan - It might not be a good idea to bring up age given the birthdate of the guy at the top of the GOP ticket.

Rossi's fundraising is impressive, especially given the extremely low odds he has when it comes to actually winning.

It is just a bad year for the GOP and it'll be next to impossible for anybody to break through.

7. Re-elect Dino Rossi.

Posted by: Michele on April 10, 2008 09:26 PM
8. And what about Gregoire's health? Has SHE released her medical records? She couitld have a tumor or a goiter and keel over tomorrow.

What will last longer, Gregoire or the viaduct? They are both in poor health.

Posted by: snickerdoodle on April 10, 2008 10:34 PM
9. Eric is right: For Dino to reach 57% NEW contributors is a huge success for his campaign.

I don't have time to do the PDC research right now, but I wonder how many of the contributions to the current Gov's campaign have been at the maximum (or near max) level; i.e.: People she can't go back to for more dollars (at least not legally).

10. Excitement reigns herein! Of course it's the kind of excitement generated by a tree falling in the middle of a dense forest...does ANYone really hear it...ergo for all practical purposes, does it really make a 'sound'. But, by all means continue to discuss amongst yourselves and continue your self aggrandizement; it's good for the soul. [Let the votes fall where they may...i.e. King County, et al!] :)

Posted by: Duffman on April 11, 2008 05:36 AM
11. @ 6- Rossi's fundraising is impressive, especially given the extremely low odds he has when it comes to actually winning.

Low odds of winning? were you asleep in 2004 when he actually legitimately won the election? If anything, Rossi's chances are much better in 2008 and Gregoire knows it. Just look at the Movered.org youtube vid on the home page of SP. She looks dazed and confused, which is how she's governed since taking office after her illegal votes were counted in the 2004 election.

It is just a bad year for the GOP and it'll be next to impossible for anybody to break through.

So I guess you'll be extremely stunned on November 6th when you awaken to President-elect McCain and Governor-elect Rossi. Life is full of surprises isn't it?

20. Anyone catch the irony in the headline in the Times Today? Front Page above the fold Gregoire on the Sonics"We've all been lied to!". Tomorrow's Headline, Taxpayers to Gregoire "We've all been lied to!"

Posted by: Smokie on April 11, 2008 07:03 AM
21. It would be interesting to study the source of the queen's war chest. She, like Senators Murray and Cantwell, more than likely receives considerable funds from out-of-state ideological PAC's, rather than "groundswell" dollars from state-wide individuals.

Interesting, the switch.....growing up in the 50's and 60's, Republicans were the party of big money interests and Democrats were the party of the working class. Now it's trending to the reverse. Tabulate the contributions in "old money" districts like Bainbridge Island, where polling records show 70%+ vote Democrat. In contrast, look at the neighboring Poulsbo area, which is growing in business starts and entrepreneurial ventures. Most Poulsbo precincts vote 50/50, or with a slight edge to Republicans.

Republicans seem to represent the non-union working class, small businessmen and social conservatives, whereas Democrats represent old money, the destitute, socialists, greenies and other non-producers who live on government handouts.

And in King County, Democrats are the party of choice for the dead, convicted felons, illegal aliens and multiple ballot voters.

Posted by: Saltherring on April 11, 2008 07:11 AM
22. Exactly, Smokie. The Queen was on the Gasman's show last night- she keyed in (pun intended) on the "they lied- ....." mantra. Seems about par.

Gastineau, ever the softball interviewer, never questioned her on why nothing was done before by the legislature and is willing to give her and the legislature a pass if they get something going.

Eric, while she may not have been "actively" getting money during the session, she was accepting money, so I am not sure there is a lot out there for her.

Most of the energy on the Ds side will be with Obama in this State. So, can the Queen ride the coattails of the flamboyant young citizen radical activist (er, organizer) to her first term as Governor or will she be selected by the courts again?

Saltherring: within that statement, you not only show your 'sexist' bias but in fact how 'outdated' you are in the ways of the changing world, specifically Washington State Politics. But, DO keep trying. :)
I guess the silver lining to this is that at least these old farts have a way to spew their wrath (i.e. anonymously via computer terminal), otherwise they w/likely be 'taking it out' on possibly thier 'significant other'. Ugly!

41. Duffie,

My dictionary's 4th definition of 'man, pl. men' states, "a person (usually used in contexts in which sexual distinctions are not relevant)".

Unlike liberals, conservatives are not obsessed with the devisive game, noting differences in people's sex, skin color, etc. My comment was all inclusive in that the business community, both men and women, are attracted to the Republican Party by nature of that Party's stances on issues. Those who choose party affiliations on "feelings" are more likely to vote Democrat.

What the hell do "test scores" and "college graduates" have to do with old/new money and entreprenuerial attitudes and practices. I'm quite certain elevated test scores and college degrees are the norm on Seattle's Capitol Hill, but common sense, vision and ambition are quite scare. Same with Bainbridge. I know, as I grew up in Poulsbo, did contracting work on the Island for years. As for "metrics", most anyone with any business acumen will take experience and common sense over charts and graphs any day. Figures lie and liars figure.

She is governor and she hasn't got ANY control as to where her RE-ELECTION bus comes from? SHe cannot insist it be a WASHINGTON STAE registerd bus?

I guess she can't insist that Freey work be given to Washingon workers then by you logic.

Or maybe she is so incompetent that she is unable to ensure that only a Washington registed bus is used, just like she was incompetent as AG and forgot to file the paperwork on time and costs the state $10 million.

"Nice try pbj, you really should go to the shallow end of the pool before you get hurt."

WHy? Because you have gone off the deep end?

Nice try pbj, you really should go to the shallow end of the pool before you get hurt.

83. Let's try it again.

"...some completely untrue statement. She's likely renting the bus from a company like this. I seriously doubt Gregoire has any control over where a rental bus is registered."

She is governor and she hasn't got ANY control as to where her RE-ELECTION bus comes from? SHe cannot insist it be a WASHINGTON STAE registerd bus?

I guess she can't insist that Ferry work be given to Washingon workers then by your logic.

Or maybe she is so incompetent that she is unable to ensure that only a Washington registed bus is used, just like she was incompetent as AG and forgot to file the paperwork on time and costs the state $10 million.

Why? Because you have gone off the deep end?

84. PBJ....
Odd I heard on the news this bus company is Washington based. LOL

You know, just trying to say a few bucks.

The fun just never stops.

85. And she's off on the campaign trail......or is that the Oregon Trail??
Ok, now I'm confused....which state is Gregoire attempting to run for Governor again?

86. How typical of liberals. They violate the very laws they pass.

In 1998 a Washington couple was fined $101,568 in penalties and back taxes for registering their RV in Oregon. But the queen feels she, like Barak Obama apparently, is better than the "common man".

The arrogance of elitism.

87. Gregoire is now saying We've "been lied to" on Sonics on the front page of todays Seattle Times

Oh Really Christine Well

we are all saying We've "been lied to" by you for four years.

And 4 years is enough!

Go Rossi

88. If we keep voting for the same old crowd of Democrats and Republicans, that's exactly what we're going to get: the same old thing.

I'm voting for Ron Paul 'cause I've had enough of this crap! Democrats and Republicans are diferent sides to the same coin.

89. So I tuned into KJR (Sports Radio) today and could have sworn that I was listening to KVI! They were ripping Gregiore for a good hour and not just on the Sonics issue either. I think one could use the Sonics issue to apply it to this entire administration....that is when it is time to take a a stand and make a tough decision, you sit down. It is over for Gregiore, if you are getting ripped on a sports radio station, you know you are in trouble.

90. The latest polls that show this race too close to call must mean something. So, let the left-leaning Seattle media and associated lemmings twist things as much as possible in her favor. You can see by the last post from jk (#89) that it is not all good news for her - good to see that someone other than KVI and KTTH are shining the light in a more non-partisan way on she has been a disappointment as Governor.

If those who never in their lives have voted anything other than Democrat sit down and apply some critical thinking, they would understand it makes more sense to vote for the best candidate, regardless of party - Quite a concept... This state is teetering on the brink of a financial catastrophe, unlike in 2004 - when the economy was better. Consider the economy before voting and vote for the guy (Rossi) who was ahead in the election twice, before the final flurry of ACORN - laced votes from King County put her over the top. Among his credentials include a budget in 2003 that helped the state's economy thrive - something that the P-I and Times would rarely say. I will gladly vote for Dino Rossi again - as they would say on KJR, its time for the other team to get the ball.

91. Saltherring, You're just blowing smoke.

Old money, new money - right. No basis to make that statement.

Entrepreneurial attitudes and practices more prevalent in Poulsbo than on Bainbridge Island? Do you have any source (outside of your own head) for this? I didn't think so.

I think envy is a better description for your comments - too bad.

If Poulsbo is going to move beyond Walmart as a new source of business activity the characteristics you describe need to be in place. Are they?

92. She is governor and she hasn't got ANY control as to where her RE-ELECTION bus comes from?

Something like getting a re-election bus would likely be handled by her staff.

SHe cannot insist it be a WASHINGTON STAE registerd bus?

What if she did and the company didn't have any or they were all being used by the Dave Mathews Band or something. Do you know the full story? Doubt it. Cheap political stunt on the GOP's part.

Why? Because you have gone off the deep end?

Nope, your deranged postings are full of holes and therefore don't displace the water needed to stay afloat during intelligent conversations.
