Ok, undernews is interesting. But here is some hard news:
As of PDC reports filed today, covering through the end of March, Dino Rossi reports over $3.8 million in contributions with approximately $2.6 million cash-on-hand. Today the campaign also reported receiving a contribution from its 27,000th donor. 57% of those are new contributors to the campaign - they didn't give in 2004. That's a fascinatingly high ratio.
Rossi's aggregate numbers compare to Gregoire's $4.7 million raised and roughly $2.8 million cash-on-hand. Of course, coming out of her legislative session fundraising freeze she'll receive quite an influx in the near-term as her campaign actively solicits money.
All told, Rossi appears to have done a nice job closing much of the fundraising lead built by the early-starting Gregoire. Moreover, his campaign appears to have built an exceptional base of small-dollar donors who can be tapped further in the coming months. He'll probably need it when state Democrats inevitably unleash on him.
In the meantime, it smells like somebody's base is hungry.

Posted by: Rick D. on April 10, 2008 08:33 PMDon't forget this story in the background...
Business federation wants Rossi
More than 96 percent of National Federation of Independent Business members in the state have endorsed Dino Rossi for governor.
"Our members have spoken, and they couldn't be more clear or emphatic - they're ready for Dino Rossi to move into the governor's mansion in Olympia," said Troy Nichols, NFIB's Washington state director
But I agree and am firmly in the Rosi camp. 4 Years is more than enough of Gregoire!
Posted by: GS on April 10, 2008 09:01 PMRossi's fundraising is impressive, especially given the extremely low odds he has when it comes to actually winning.
It is just a bad year for the GOP and it'll be next to impossible for anybody to break through.
Posted by: redflag on April 10, 2008 09:10 PMWhat will last longer, Gregoire or the viaduct? They are both in poor health.
Posted by: snickerdoodle on April 10, 2008 10:34 PMI don't have time to do the PDC research right now, but I wonder how many of the contributions to the current Gov's campaign have been at the maximum (or near max) level; i.e.: People she can't go back to for more dollars (at least not legally).
Posted by: Methow Ken on April 10, 2008 10:37 PMLow odds of winning? were you asleep in 2004 when he actually legitimately won the election? If anything, Rossi's chances are much better in 2008 and Gregoire knows it. Just look at the Movered.org youtube vid on the home page of SP. She looks dazed and confused, which is how she's governed since taking office after her illegal votes were counted in the 2004 election.
It is just a bad year for the GOP and it'll be next to impossible for anybody to break through.
So I guess you'll be extremely stunned on November 6th when you awaken to President-elect McCain and Governor-elect Rossi. Life is full of surprises isn't it?
Posted by: Rick D. on April 11, 2008 05:46 AMOnly in the leftist echo-chamber that is Seattle do they not hear. The rest of the state (including many small-town and rural Dems) has grown weary of the arrogant "let them eat cake" queen. Out with her!
Posted by: Saltherring on April 11, 2008 05:47 AMUnfortunately (for you) that is not what makes Washington State Politics, and deep down I believe you'all really know it. It is rather sad in a way. (A good way!...haha)

Sorry Duff, but you nick does you in everytime.
btw how's that cold calling to garner support for Hillary going? I bet you're sick of hearing the dial tone.
Posted by: Rick D. on April 11, 2008 07:03 AMInteresting, the switch.....growing up in the 50's and 60's, Republicans were the party of big money interests and Democrats were the party of the working class. Now it's trending to the reverse. Tabulate the contributions in "old money" districts like Bainbridge Island, where polling records show 70%+ vote Democrat. In contrast, look at the neighboring Poulsbo area, which is growing in business starts and entrepreneurial ventures. Most Poulsbo precincts vote 50/50, or with a slight edge to Republicans.
Republicans seem to represent the non-union working class, small businessmen and social conservatives, whereas Democrats represent old money, the destitute, socialists, greenies and other non-producers who live on government handouts.
And in King County, Democrats are the party of choice for the dead, convicted felons, illegal aliens and multiple ballot voters.
Posted by: Saltherring on April 11, 2008 07:11 AMGastineau, ever the softball interviewer, never questioned her on why nothing was done before by the legislature and is willing to give her and the legislature a pass if they get something going.
Eric, while she may not have been "actively" getting money during the session, she was accepting money, so I am not sure there is a lot out there for her.
Most of the energy on the Ds side will be with Obama in this State. So, can the Queen ride the coattails of the flamboyant young citizen radical activist (er, organizer) to her first term as Governor or will she be selected by the courts again?
Posted by: swatter on April 11, 2008 07:15 AMHmmmmm, it all 'relative' now isn't it ricki-tiki.
Suppose we told a town to clear out by Thursday and then bombed them on Tuesday...how 'minute' would that be? 'Nuff said.
No basis in fact, but nonetheless funny.
Posted by: BA on April 11, 2008 07:21 AMOnly in West Virginia Dufflebag....is there something about your family tree you're confessing to there Duff? Do you travel for those reunions to the appalachian mountains?

Posted by: Rick D. on April 11, 2008 07:23 AM Saltherring: within that statement, you not only show your 'sexist' bias but in fact how 'outdated' you are in the ways of the changing world, specifically Washington State Politics. But, DO keep trying. :)
I guess the silver lining to this is that at least these old farts have a way to spew their wrath (i.e. anonymously via computer terminal), otherwise they w/likely be 'taking it out' on possibly thier 'significant other'. Ugly!
Just fine, thank you. I've actually been in (phone) contact with the Clinton campaign and I'm very encouraged with what seems to be a resurgence of energy over there. Despite some reports, this is far from a done deal. Again, thanks for asking. :)

'Saltherring: within that statement, you not only show your 'sexist' bias but in fact how 'outdated' you are in the ways of the changing world, specifically Washington State Politics.' ~ Duffman
Can someone explain how what Saltherring can be construed as sexist? I guess criticizing Queen Gregoire now constitutes misogyny? Interesting leap of logic.
I think Homer dis-agrees with you!
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on April 11, 2008 09:11 AMI'm still writing-in Ron Paul, and I don't care what you neo-cons think about it.

You Paulistinians need to quit tilting at windmills and come on in for the big win in November.
Posted by: Rick D. on April 11, 2008 09:52 AMI tried to figure out how Duffie connected my comments to "sexism" also, but I guess it's just a liberal thing; the rest of us are simply too dumb to figure it out.
BA @ 24,
In between guffaws, you might want to check polling data. Old money Bainbridge consistently votes 70+% Dem and North Kitsap precincts vote about 50/50. Do your homework before you laugh.
Posted by: Saltherring on April 11, 2008 10:10 AMI guess the entire Spanish language is also sexist because it is masculine:
Ellas= She's
Ellos= He's
Mixture of she's and He's = Ellos....egads!!
If nothing else Duffman, this confirms you are a typical Seattle ahem....male.
Posted by: Rick D. on April 11, 2008 10:39 AMMy dictionary's 4th definition of 'man, pl. men' states, "a person (usually used in contexts in which sexual distinctions are not relevant)".
Unlike liberals, conservatives are not obsessed with the devisive game, noting differences in people's sex, skin color, etc. My comment was all inclusive in that the business community, both men and women, are attracted to the Republican Party by nature of that Party's stances on issues. Those who choose party affiliations on "feelings" are more likely to vote Democrat.
Posted by: Saltherring on April 11, 2008 10:40 AMWho knows? you might get it. We'll just call you
You can call them Duffmanism's - Wait, that's sexist......anyway, we'll think of something.

Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on April 11, 2008 12:45 PMINRE: Saltherring @ 47
Yup Saltherring. I can only imagine what Duffman's life is like walking around on eggshells all day. But hey, to each their own I guess. I'd rather live life than constantly self-censor my speech in fear of offending someone by a completely innocuous utterance. This country's forefather's didn't foresee political correctness, but if they had, they wouldn't have bothered to put in the blood, sweat and tears to form it.
You want knock down power.
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on April 11, 2008 12:58 PMFrom the Billary camp.
The Democratic hopeful vowed to cut the murder rate in big cities by half if she becomes president, promised 100,000 new police officers on the streets, and laid out steps to cut America's huge prison population.
So doing both with no bad guys in prison???
Can't Billary count?
Didn't Bill try this too. LOL

Posted by: JDH on April 11, 2008 02:55 PMUmm no I have never rented a vehicle with Oregon plates when I knew I was going to be in Washington. Perhaps she wanted to avoid paying Washington Taxes? Isn't that just typical for liberals, they are all for taxes- but when it comes time to pay they refuse.
I'm just sayin...

...some completely untrue statement. She's likely renting the bus from a company like this. I seriously doubt Gregoire has any control over where a rental bus is registered.
Nice try pbj, you really should go to the shallow end of the pool before you get hurt.
Hey, Where can Cato Sign up?
Posted by: Rick D. on April 11, 2008 04:07 PMWhy spend our dollars down there in Oregon chrissy?
No buses in WA, chrissy?
No one in WA willing to paint it to your demands, chrissy?
No restaurants meet your needs in WA, chrissy?
I don't think we have gubernatorial term limits in this state, so if the people see fit to re-elect her to "serve till she expires" then so be it. =P
Gee, there she is...at the highest state office, and yet unable to make mature decisions about the intent of clever businessmen! I mean, if you want to sit at the adults table, "Christine" maybe you should learn to think above the 6th grade level!
What the hell do "test scores" and "college graduates" have to do with old/new money and entreprenuerial attitudes and practices. I'm quite certain elevated test scores and college degrees are the norm on Seattle's Capitol Hill, but common sense, vision and ambition are quite scare. Same with Bainbridge. I know, as I grew up in Poulsbo, did contracting work on the Island for years. As for "metrics", most anyone with any business acumen will take experience and common sense over charts and graphs any day. Figures lie and liars figure.
Posted by: Saltherring on April 11, 2008 04:35 PMShe is governor and she hasn't got ANY control as to where her RE-ELECTION bus comes from? SHe cannot insist it be a WASHINGTON STAE registerd bus?
I guess she can't insist that Freey work be given to Washingon workers then by you logic.
Or maybe she is so incompetent that she is unable to ensure that only a Washington registed bus is used, just like she was incompetent as AG and forgot to file the paperwork on time and costs the state $10 million.
"Nice try pbj, you really should go to the shallow end of the pool before you get hurt."

The fun just never stops.
In 1998 a Washington couple was fined $101,568 in penalties and back taxes for registering their RV in Oregon. But the queen feels she, like Barak Obama apparently, is better than the "common man".
The arrogance of elitism.

Posted by: GS on April 11, 2008 11:39 PMI'm voting for Ron Paul 'cause I've had enough of this crap! Democrats and Republicans are diferent sides to the same coin.
Posted by: Politically Incorrect on April 12, 2008 12:27 PMIf those who never in their lives have voted anything other than Democrat sit down and apply some critical thinking, they would understand it makes more sense to vote for the best candidate, regardless of party - Quite a concept... This state is teetering on the brink of a financial catastrophe, unlike in 2004 - when the economy was better. Consider the economy before voting and vote for the guy (Rossi) who was ahead in the election twice, before the final flurry of ACORN - laced votes from King County put her over the top. Among his credentials include a budget in 2003 that helped the state's economy thrive - something that the P-I and Times would rarely say. I will gladly vote for Dino Rossi again - as they would say on KJR, its time for the other team to get the ball.
Posted by: KS on April 12, 2008 05:56 PMOld money, new money - right. No basis to make that statement.
Entrepreneurial attitudes and practices more prevalent in Poulsbo than on Bainbridge Island? Do you have any source (outside of your own head) for this? I didn't think so.
I think envy is a better description for your comments - too bad.
If Poulsbo is going to move beyond Walmart as a new source of business activity the characteristics you describe need to be in place. Are they?
Something like getting a re-election bus would likely be handled by her staff.
SHe cannot insist it be a WASHINGTON STAE registerd bus?
What if she did and the company didn't have any or they were all being used by the Dave Mathews Band or something. Do you know the full story? Doubt it. Cheap political stunt on the GOP's part.
Why? Because you have gone off the deep end?
Nope, your deranged postings are full of holes and therefore don't displace the water needed to stay afloat during intelligent conversations.
