Re: Democrats & Trade

Bruce Ramsey follows up to earlier discussions on the issue by reporting on the gap between Obama endorser Christine Gregoire on the candidate himself on the issue.

That gap is neither a small issue nor is it subsiding. Note the Obama campaign's call for the resignation of the Clinton campaign's lead strategist in the wake of him meeting with Columbian officials - on behalf of a separate client - to discuss a pending trade deal with that country. Of course, that deal is close to being held hostage by Democrats in Congress and their allies.

UPDATE: that back-and-forth between the Clinton & Obama camps managed to seriously irritate one of our most important allies in Latin America. Smooth.

UPDATE II: The New York Times editorial page joins the left-of-center chiding of the two Democratic Presidential candidates. Of course, they find a way to pin it obliquely on Karl Rove. Typical.

UPDATE III: Message: working on behalf of free trade is not compatible with working on behalf of a Democratic campaign for President of the United States.

Good message. Thanks for clarifying that one.

1. Again the Seattle Times is being hypocritcal, and this time letting CG off the hook. The statement in the article states that CG disagrees with what the Obama Campaign has been speaking of trade, but then leaves it at that. No further probing of what specifically she disagrees with. When you actually read the AFL-CIO speech, one has to come away with the fact that the Seattle Times gave CG a free pass on the issue with regards to her own campaign.

It will be interesting to see if the Unions who so support CG let it go at this. Is CG really stating that she supports a trade agreement with Columbia even though they have brutilized unions in their country and the trade agreement has no worker protections in it? I am sure her union backers will love this. It is easy to say you are for free trade. It is also easy to say you support unions and workers rights. Unless the paper does it job however, you don't ever get at where CG really stands on the issue when the rubber meats the road. Does she or doesn't she put trade above workers rights? The paper is giving her a pass. Obama has stated his position, whether one agrees or not, that workers rights comes first. Where does CG stand? I am sure the unions that support her would want to know.

2. How can you be for union monopolies and workers rights? What about the right to avoid being enslaved in a crony, leftist union? Union slavery isn't workers rights, it is taking away rights from workers.

Come on Tim Eyman, make this a right to work state! Abolish union slavery and cronyism now!

3. Gee...a visit with a "Columbian" official would suggest a conversation with a newspaper editor in southwest WA. A visit with a "Colombian" official would suggest something altogether different. Like a trade agreement.

Intersting take on that over at American Thinker.

Doublethink and the Liberal Mind

" The belief that Barack Obama is a candidate who can "unify" the nation may be the most brilliant example of what George Orwell called "doublethink" in the recent history of the Democratic Party. Think about it: for over thirty, maybe forty years the American public has been variously sermonized and threatened by crusaders in Obama's same party into embracing not unity, but "diversity." Call it what you will - brilliant or duplicitous - it is still a masterful political achievement. "

6. I hope the Colombia free trade deal goes through. I think it is the best way to give the people there alternatives to growing drugs.

On Obama as a unifier, I'm looking for specific examples.

8. Gee, is this the kind of "listening to our allies" that the Democrats keep talking about?

If so, I think I'd rather have that yahoo-cowboy, damn-the-torpedos GWB stay on.

11. Gee, after the Clintonites dissed the Colombians, maybe we shouldn't put these people in charge of things....

13. I see Clinton want's to creat a TZAR of poverty in her administration. She will need one, with her massive tax and spend proposals in the middle of a recession.

Maybe they'll donate more than 10% OF their 109 Million!

One more single point of light ya know, although I doubt that light will ever shine from that point

15. Gore has finally decided to add a few thousand dollars worth of solar panels to one of his mansions as a result of all the heat he is losing from all of us beating as his door. What I would like to see released every year from this goon, is a month by month energy bill for each of his three homes, cars, limos and private jets.

By the time I see this, his ten year Doomsday will long be past and the fool on the hill will be remembered for what he wasn't

Hillary can release her 8 yr records, come on Al and release your energy consumption records.

We'd all love to see these!

I give him a F'n F- for his footprint on this earth.

16. Hmmm... I know Obama was all FOR talking to our ENEMIES, but I didn't think he was AGAINST talking to our FRIENDS. This guy is a complete oxymoron in a suit.
