Talk Radio I Could Do Without
It has been said already in many places, but Dr. Laura's fantastically idiotic comments about the Spitzers are an example of why I won't let a radio dial within earshot stay on KVI during her time slot.
I get her bigger point about the importance of each spouse being available sexually and emotionally for the other. Each spouse has needs the other should be aware of and be prepared to give of themselves to, understanding that will involve some sacrifice.
But I don't care how detached Mrs. Spitzer might have become - as if Dr. Laura could actually know that. If she was unavailable sexually then you can almost guarantee she reached the point because of her husband's emotional unavailability.
Of course, all that is pure and grossly unnecessary conjecture that Dr. Laura should never have started to begin with. It's a bad day when her comments leave me unable to argue with D. Parvaz.
And while I'm at it, why did KTTH drop its local programming and add Glenn Beck in the morning? I can't listen to that guy for more than 90 seconds or my head gets the sudden urge to want to explode. Mostly I think because he seems to use a lot of words to say not very much at all.

1. I am not a Dr Laura fan either. But the quesiton is apropos. After 10 years of him going to a prostitute and still staying married, one has to wonder.
I'm just sayin...
2. Gee, maybe Mrs Spitzer didn't give good BJ's. Quick, send over the national expert, Bill Clinton.
3. "If she was unavailable sexually then you can almost guarantee she reached the point because of her husband's emotional unavailability."
As if YOU could know THAT!
4. I never cared for Dr. Laura or any other radiohead doctor. Dr. Drew on Love Line with Adam C. was very different in its prime. Funny stuff.
Dr. Laura, not funny or entertaining, its KVI's radio hell time zone.
5. I bet I'm in the minority here. I'm a fan of Dr. Laura, and I also quite enjoyed Love Line with Carolla and Pinsky. All quite entertaining, in my opinion.
6. Interestingly, I heard on Dr. laura's show someone had written in saying that on some "womens'" show on TV they were interviewing a prostitute and she actually told the interviewers that if women wanted to avoid this kind of thing "they should work on their relationships with their husbands." She said it, I didn't.
7. Dr. Laura also said that sometimes it's just that the husband is a pathetic narcissist and that's why sometimes they do this. Eliot could've fit that mold, perhaps.
8. Dr. Drew said something similar to what Dr. Laura said about Spitzer and his wife on Larry King Live, but that wasn't highlighted. I respect Dr. Drew and also was a fan of Love Line with he and Carolla - too bad its not on around here any more.
Dr. Laura jumped the shark with those comments and of course, the MSM loves to jump on sound bytes without mentioning the context of the conversation - that make most of what she said be reasonable. They resort to being intellectually dishonest with someone like her who is outspoken and conservative and only highlight the portion of the conversation that succeeds in making her look more evil, if you will or OMG politically incorrect. That's my take and I only listen to her in small doses.
9. Eric,
The reason Glenn Beck is on KTTH is because he gets huge ratings. His show is the number
three rated radio in America.
Now you may not like him but Glenn is literally taking down KVI's local programming piece by
piece. When KTTH first put his
show on from 3-6pm he single handedly brought on Brian Suits
demise. Now that KTTH is broadcasting his show live from
6-9am he is driving the final nail in the Kirby Wilbur show's
coffin. The last ratings I saw
Glenn Beck has just been clobbering Kirby in the morning.
So there you have it, that's why
KTTH has him on.
10. I agree that Glen Beck is most irritating. Every now and then he has something worth while listening to but most of the time he just jabbers on trying to be humorous, or even worse, he gets religious. KTTH must be losing listeners by the thousands. They really screwed up when they moved Savage from the 3 o'clock spot.
11. I agree with #10 about KTTH. I'd rather listen to Michael Savage any day of the week. Glenn Beck is a poor man's Michael Savage with a bad case of ADD. Laura Ingrham on KKOL is better.
Kirby's problem is the show's format. The management at Fisher Broadcasting has the heads where the sun don't shine - to change it to Kirby & Co. I like Bryan Suits better also and with the change in political climate, Fisher will be sorry that they let him go, but he seems to be doing OK at KFI in a much larger listener market. Beck may belong on KTTH, but they need to change Savage back to live from 3-6PM and move Beck to 6-9PM, with Dave Boze from 6-9AM. I listen to Savage on streaming from KXL nowdays from 3-6PM.
12. The only thing that saves Beck is that he has guests on that speak a more clear and concise sentence than he does. And that's pretty much every guest.
13. I'm not here to endorse or trash Dr. Laura except to say her comments were ill timed and should be viewed separate from the NY Hooka Scandal. That Hooka's gonna get rich, BTW. Anyway, it is predominately women who file for divorce and blow up families in our generation. There is a huge princess Oprah mentality with women today and they don't want to give anything outside of their little ol narcissistic selves. They worship themselves and motherhood (an extension of self). N.O.W. and other women's groups don't want to hear it. But, the good Doctor is doing some truthin' that women of today don't want to hear. Just a little tough love ladies, if you care enough to listen.
14. #13, probably those women are filing because they married real bums. There are a lot of scummy men out there. (but then these women chose them, so we don't need to feel too sorry)
If Beck is that highly rated in the morning, then I wonder who is listening. Because I too feel annoyed by his commentary. There's no meat to it, seemingly.
15. Everybody who is in the public eye makes a few unfortunate remarks, but I've often heard people rail about something Dr. Laura has said and when somewhat surprised I checked what she actually said I realized that she just didn't bother to decorate her comments with a whole bunch of qualifiers to ensure that the dim-witted or thin-skinned wouldn't be offended.
Her comments on this were in response to QUESTIONS about what would drive a man to a hooker. Her RESPONSE included from the onset the possibility that the guy was just a jerk.
I wish I were surprised Eric would indulge in the kind of casual half-truth whisper down the lane reporting that so often makes conservatives look bad.
16. Dr. Laura was right on in the context of her statement. While I don't agree with everything she says, I do admire her for being frank and getting to the point. Something the touchy feely's in this state avoid with a passion.
17. I think she was very accurate in the terms of what drives a man to even consider such a thing.
18. Boze in the afternoon slot is great. The 'grasshopper' has grown up. But, please don't bring back Sytmann and make it a duo. I don't know any duo programs that work.
Eric, future reading should include male/female differences. Prager has some good conversations you can get on his archives. BOTOH, Dr. Laura cannot speak directly to the Sptizer situation without more knowledge. But, I would bet she was more right than wrong.
19. Phil @9,
You are absolutely right. I was a Kirby listener and now listen to Glen Beck. KVI is one the road to becoming a liberal station. Fine if that is there goal. Goodbye KVI, I am not looking back.
20. Hold it, hold it, hold it...Elliott Spitzer is the most arrogant and obnoxious person I have ever had the displeasure to meet. He did clean up some white collar crime in NY, but in the process he managed to kill the careers of a number of innocent people that he simply decided he didn't like because they made more money than he did. Elliott Spitzer is a womanizing egomaniac...gee, maybe his wife isn't sleeping with him.
21. Yea! Something that we can agree on!
I'll pop some champaign!
22. I guess poor Dr. Laura hasn't gotten the memo yet:
Nothing is Ever The Woman's Fault.
Men and women are equal. That's a given. It's just that women are also blameless. Accept that and you're on the way to nirvana. And you didn't even need a lobotomy.
23. I agree with Dr. L's assertions, not that she or anyone knows what was going on in the Spitzers' bedroom (or bedrooms). But given a marriage where one spouse has shut down sexually and the other hungers for sex, duh... you can expect this sort of thing. What got Earlings nuts in such a bunch on this subject, anyway?
Bonus question... would Spitzer's sin have been more forgivable had he been having an affair rather than paying a hooker?
24. Eric says: "
And while I'm at it, why did KTTH drop its local programming and add Glenn Beck in the morning? I can't listen to that guy for more than 90 seconds or my head gets the sudden urge to want to explode"...
Amen!
Its not that Beck doesn't bring up some good points but why does he need a thousand words to say what ten words would've sufficed?
25. In the words of the great Howard Cosell, Dr. Laura "tells it like it is." Her radio voice is like butta.
26. Only one better than Dr. Laura: Dr. Ruth Westheimer. /sarc
27. I have not listened to Laura's program, but I did read one of her books that my wife brought home. My wife and I agreed that Dr. Laura offers some very sound advice. I agree that her comment about Spitzwad's wife was silly and poorly timed, but anyone who thinks that Gloria Steinem is a dim bulb is okay with me. I wonder what Gloria has to say about Spitzer. No, I am not going to Google it.
