The Latest Boeing Scuttle

The Everett Herald's editorial page notes the potential disconnect between US Trade Policy and US military procurement policy. A potentially fair point, setting aside the interests of the US taxpayer. But as Danny Westneat noted, the whole issue of globalization complicates complaints about the matter.

On related topics, the American Thinker's Thomas Lifson - who like this blogger has given favorable coverage to the 787's success in contrast to the A380's struggles - has a unique take on the tanker deal.

Maybe Boeing wins its protest currently being heard by the GAO and has a chance to re-compete. That obviously wouldn't be a bad thing for the local economy. Either way, the integration of the larger global economy seems destined to be a greater factor in future defense purchasing, not less. There's no rational retreat from globalization now.
