The Most Human of Moments

Given that my age, 32, makes me a relative young buck in the world of politics, I always enjoy reading about younger folk taking on the spotlight in that realm. As such, I read the New York Magazine's recent profile of Chelsea Clinton with interest given her emergence on the campaign trail this year.

This passage grabbed me:

That fall, Chelsea couldn't resist reading the Starr report online, including the footnotes. When Bill Clinton learned that she'd read the report, he wept.

Given that the footnotes of the Starr report amounted to in some cases material best suited for a letter in Penthouse (nicely wrapped in academic prose in this case), that's an incredibly rough revelation for any father to bear. My daughter reading vivid descriptions of my sex life - with a woman who isn't my wife - isn't terribly high on my list of things to accomplish as a parent.

I'd weep too.

Of course, I don't think I'd get a chance to weep if my wife was Hillary, but that's another matter.

1.
Crocodile tears seem to run in that family. They are always going around ruining other peoples lives though...and there doesn't seem to be much remorse for them. The real crime in the Lewinsky scandal was never addressed. Clinton promised to marry her. If he were a man, he would have divorced Hillary and done it. If she were as proud or caring as she lets on, she would have allowed it.

But no, each one warped human emotions and the feelings of others to their own personal agenda and power lust.

As for Chelsea, I have no doubt that she follows in the family footsteps.

Chelsea Clinton's Boyfriend's Dad in Prison for Fraud, Scams:

"Speculation that Chelsea Clinton is engaged to boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky has been the buzz for some time but if they do make it to the altar before November 2008, Mezvinsky's pop won't make it. Unless of course they are married in a Federal prison."

2. I don't care how much money, fame or power the Clintons have or will get, I wouldn't want either for a parent. I just don't like their values. Many of us had parents who didn't have the "gifts" of the Clintons, but our parents were gifted in other ways like being outstanding human beings. Chelsea has had all the material advantages, but then, that is not all there is, perhaps that is why the tears.

3. I actually feel sorry for any child relegated to being raised by various nannies, baby sitters and secret service types.

It's a pity that St. Bill the Clinton, worshiped by most leftists on this board and others, forgot (if he ever knew) that one of the main jobs of parenting is setting an example for our children.

His "weeping," to me, lacks the sincerity of a true apology for his actions. You know, something like pouring gasoline on himself and lighting it?

THAT would be sincere. Anything else is more "Crouching Intern, Hidden Stoggie."

5. "When Bill Clinton learned that she'd read the report, he wept."

The author of the article does not identify where this information came from, but states it as fact. The list of people who could have served as the source (i.e. who witnessed the weeping) is a short one, and everyone on it should be assumed to be willing to "spin" as much as necessary to manage a very bad PR episode.

I am aware that even that individual from Arkansas is not without his occasional human side, but I just don't see him as weeping over something like that... at least not so much as I see his team crafting a story to create the myth that he actually has a sense of guilt.

Remember, this is the guy who rolled up his sleeve to give a blood sample to be matched against a stain on a blue dress when he was in no way compelled to do so. The guy who never lacked for some silly legal pretense to get out of anything suddenly just got real cooperative, and proved his own guilt. As if to say, "For any of you who don't think I'm enough of a bad boy to have done it... yeah, I'm bad. Of course I did it. Hell, with all the power I have, I'd be ashamed if I hadn't done it. And don't you forget it."

He revels in his depravity, and I place nothing beneath him.

6. Bill Clinton probably "wept" because he had been found out, and not because of any sense of shame. When your whole existence has been about acquiring and abusing power, you can always blame others or use circumstances to justify poor judgement and bad decisions. Just as Hillary is now blaming election staff for her recent string of primary defeats, when she should look no further than the mirror while recalling 40 years of manipulative, narcissist arrogance displayed towards others. Soon the Clintons will be left with only what they deserve....each other.

7. One only needs to see the youtube video of Clinton Yucking it up after Ron Brown's funeral...until he sees the camera.....then the waterworks begin. Sociopath's can turn it on when they have to, and Bubba is no exception

Give me a break!!!

8. OOO Please, Bill Clinton would turn his tears on and off as needed.

Shall we recall the time with Ron Brown died, Bill changed from happy to crying in seconds when he saw the camera.

9. I can't wait to see Bubba blubber when Hillary finally concedes defeat to Obama. The question inquiring minds will ask at that time will be: is Bill weeping out of sympathy for Hill, or out of fear of her wrath?

10. Great to see you guys are still concerned with heady and important matters of state -- like blow jobs.

11. 0-2 months after primary- 10 to 1
2-24 months after primary- even money
1-5 years after the election- 2 to 1.

My odds for betting on the date when the clinton's file for divorce.

12. As I understand it, Bill Clinton doesn't weep when he gets news he doesn't like - he gets angry.

13. The author of the article does not identify where this information came from, but states it as fact.

I agree with you TB. It points out the great hypocrisy on here, the other day people were harping on the NYT for attacking McCain with anonymous sources. Today we are all happy to believe the paragraph cited is true despite the lack of a actual source. =)

or, just more clinton red meat?

15. Headless,

I believe the issue was not as many like to spin it the sex act, but like all acts of adultry, it is often not the act, but what comes after, the lying as well. Even if your person philosophy says that married people can have open relationships, that is one thing. What about the concept that the president who is sworn to uphold the laws of the land lies under oath. That is a value, but perhaps you don't believe that is a value which should be upheld?

My particular focus is on the values which help children grow into successful humans. No one really "knows" the famous, but there are plenty of pieces of indormation that come out from sourced and knowledgeable individuals who have had an opportuntiy to observe. Both Clintons have had several books wriiten about them and there are numerous articles. The picture that emerges is that of a narcissitic man concerned only with his own needs and a woman who is codependent looking for redemption by acquiring power. All the women that have accused him over the years are lying right? Because if they aren't, it is not about sex, but rape and that is about power, not sex. I am surprised that Chelsea emerged from this needy duo as well as she did. I expect that over time she will take traits from both parents and it will be interesting to she where her life goes.
The values of this particular couple are not those I would want to be an example for a nation. Their particular brand of politics is not the issue here, just their values.

16. got any news about mccain, your party's presumptive nominee?

If they had anything positive to say I doubt it would take precedence over attacking Obama.

McCain really has to learn that politics today is less about policy and more about ten sound bites. How many more gaffe's can McCain make before November?

18. Cato, I would say it was sloppy journalism in both cases... please don't ask me to speak for anyone who holds a different opinion.

19. I think the funny thing here is that Hillary Clintion is touting her experience in the white house as a reason to vote for her over Obama.

This woman couldn't manage the most basic of relationships (her marriage) in the whitehouse. Why would we vote for her?

If sleeping with the President is the hurdle to jump over to deserve a shot at the Presidency, I'd rather vote for Gennifer, Monica, or one of the more more likeable Bill bedmates.

If you dislike the content of this site so much, why are you here? Any why are you doing nothing to add to the quality of its postings?

See the down arrow on your keyboard? Try using that to see some McCain musings, and while you're at it, introduce yourself to the Shift key.

22. Uh oh, McCain is soft of the Democratic Presidential Contenders. Might be time to start dusting off the ol' GOP Fear Machine.

Is it too late to choose Huckabee?

23. Son @ 21:

Yeah it's good to hear from Headlice. She (he, it?) has been, over the years, one of the more entertaining trolls. Speaking of trolls, where has Duffman been? And while on the subject of tears, that boy must have cried a beerglass full by now, with his surrogate mother (Hitlery Klinton) on the skids.

24. I was a US Senate Page in 2000 and my cohorts and I went to the document office and requested official copies. We read all the best passages aloud and giggled so hard we were crying. :)
